Not eaten at the Castle for a while so, as it is now under new management, decided to try out. Wish we had not bothered. On previous visits it had a lovely homely atmosphere, no matter who the landlord was, but now that has gone. The chap behind the bar was miserable and did not have a smile or appear to have a personality. Not sure whether it is being reburished whilst it still open but the walls were bear, no curtains on the windows which did not give a cosy feeling, tables needed repair. I did see a notice on one of the ladies toilet doors saying closed for reburishment and one of gents toilets had been renamed ladies. However, no notice saying we are open but apology for any inconvenience as we are reburishing during closed hours. Meal okay but nothing special, some of our party had commenced eating before others meals arrived which is not good and expensive for what was on offer. On asking for bill was just given a final amount. Asked for a breakdown of meal but told we do not and cannot print this from our electronic till. How can one check what one is paying for if you do not get a proper bill. Supermarkets, petrol stations, etc give a breakdone of what is purchased so why not pubs just cannot understand. Not surprised there was only six other people eating there. Will be a long time before we give them our trade again, if ever. Very few eating places in its location so feel they are missing a great opportunity. read more
