Upgrade time... so off I went to see what was on offer. To be honest I already knew what I was going to upgrade to and what tariff I was going to sign-up for, but I thought I'd listen to the 'advice' on offer as an unmissable phone or contract may have passed me by.
The 'advice' was rubbish.
Surely staff receive some form of training and have to develop some form of product knowledge... or maybe I expect too much. Signing up to a mobile contract is a reasonable financial commitment which can cost crazy money... and be very costly to get out of should you end up stuck with a lemon. Anyway, all I managed to get out of the staff in this store was a regurgitation of the information printed in their brochures... nothing more, no insights into the pros and cons of the handsets, just memorised snippits... most of which I knew anyway and when questioned on further details they were stumped... not good! If the customer knows more than the staff about their products what sort of impression does that give?
So I took my business elsewhere!
You might think that I was slightly unfair... I knew what I wanted and the staff were unable to persuade me that anything else was better... if only that were the case... clearly they are used to flogging the most expensive this, or the latest that to people who either do not have the time or desire to find out what best suits their needs. Those people who do take the time are best served finding a different mobile phone retailer, or, if you have to use this lot then go in, ask for the product you want, pay for it and leave... do not go in for advice or guidance!
So I upgraded elsewhere and am delighted with my new phone and new contract... thank goodness for stores where the staff know the products inside out and the customer service is second to none! read more
