Sadly this place was a complete miss for me. Let's start with the customer service. The guy who answered the phone sounded rather like he didn't want to be there. When I told him my name for my order (even spelt it) he spelt it completely wrong. Like nowhere near my name at all. Not even the first letter. When I was asking questions about the menu, he was kinda just rude. The food wasn't good at all. The chicken (whole wings) was over cooked and had no flavor. The catfish was cooked perfectly, but not flavor. You also do not get bread with your meal. I asked about the fries if they are just regular fries or the ones that are kinda battered. I was told regularly fries. They weren't, they were the ones battered like. All this is sad because the prices are very good. If they can fix their customer service and the quality of the food, I would totally give them another shot. read more

Ordered the 2 piece catfish (7.99) w side and drink (+3.00). Ended up being plus $4, as I asked for small okra. Their soda machine was not working and they offered me either a can of coke or sprite, no diet. I need diet as I am diabetic. I took the can of coke home and had water w my meal The catfish was thin, kind of over cooked and the breading was way too salty. The okra were just ok. Okay...WHAT?! I truly thought nothing of this place before trying it for the first time, but everything was SO GOOD and SO ADDICTING that I can't stop thinking about it?? I just wish there was one located closer to me! I got the shrimp combo and some extra strips of fried orange roughy as well. The combo came with sides and I got mac and cheese and garlic bread, and then I added on some corn bread as well. It also came with a drink of my choice and The Captain's Table has all these premade drinks that looked delicious. I got the BLUE one (I don't even remember the name of it), but it was essentially blue raspberry, which is like my favorite flavor, AND IT WAS SO DELICIOUS! It unexpectedly, but also maybe expectedly paired so well with the savory nature of the food and it was absolutely delightful! All the seafood was SO GOOD! The breading was to die for and all the flavors were just popping off on my tongue! The garlic bread and corn bread did not even make it home, I demolished both in the car on my drive back because everything just smelled so delicious! I don't have a single bad thing to say about the food here and I've been trying to get back ever since to place another order, but it's a bit out of the way for me in ways that I never stop by there, so it's been hard. The captains table was the greatest restaurant two years ago. The batter they use for their chicken was always very light and gold. Very crispy. Now every time we order the coating is always very dark filled with old oil taste. I don't know if you guys change your grease very often, but you should.... They have remodel this location like five times so don't have anything bad to say about the inside. read more

Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! I opted for the catfish combo with mac n' cheese. I also got a side of collard greens with corn bread! (Do yourself a dove and be sure to order at least two pieces of cornbread). I ordered 200 wing "parts", I call them wing "dings" for a small gathering. They were not ready when promised (30 mins late). The guy working the front proceeded to maniacally yell at the kitchen staff "Why aren't these ready?!?!?!" They were hot. So hot, I had to ask the cook to carry them out to my truck. When I got them home the first thing I noticed was how tiny! They were like cicada wings!!!!! Two bite babies!!!! Then I and tasted,.... they were so bland and chewy! They tasted old! I had to scramble to fix, the show must go on after all, I got people comin in 15 minutes. I tossed them in some BW's garlic parm and Asian Zing sauces. I was referred to this place by Yelpers. It was my first time tasting the captains food. I had the fried catfish and fried corn. I was a bit rocky choosing the side. So the cashier suggested the fried corn. I had never had fried corn before. To be honest the regular stuff is better. Although I would say it was a new experience. The fish was absolutely done to a tee. Meh. I had such high hopes for this place based on reviews. I ordered fried chicken legs and thighs, collard greens, corn on the cob, okra and fried jumbo shrimp. The chicken was just okay. Nothing to write home about. It tasted like the frying oil wasn't fresh. The corn was on the cob, lightly dusted and fried I think or maybe baked which I do like that style of corn but it was chewy, dry and had no flavor at all. The shrimp was ultra salty and not enjoyable, which is sad because the crispy light texture of the breading was oh so promising. The okra was fried and just okay. I think it was just frozen okra that you get from any restaurant supply store. The collards? Well I would have loved to try them but unfortunately they didn't put them in with my order. I have ordered from here multiple times and have been pretty satisfied. Not tonight. I ordered 5 whole songs, no seasoning. I arrived , the wings i got were cold to the touch. The lady at the front counter tried to argue with me that they were just taken out the grease. We go back and forth. They're fresh/ they're cold... they just fried them... they're room temperature. I'm literally touching them and they're room temp. She reached her hand inside the box and touched them and had the * oh shit* look on her face. She takes my order in the back and says they'll remake them. Ok, now I'm like ... it's about 30 mins to close... do i want them remaking my food? I was ok until someone yelled from the back to "H". She went back there... came to me and said " they are going to remake your food but the cook wants you to know that your food is going to be very greasy because they don't have time to drain your wings after they fry them." W... T... F? You must be out of your mind? You just walked out from behind the swinging door to tell me that someone plans on slinging some wings into a box that I'm supposed to drive home that are going to be extra greasy? This place is pretty good. I order the 10-piece wings and 5-piece jumbo shrimp. The shrimp was 5/5 amazing! The shrimps are definitely jumbo and delicious. The wings are pretty good as well but they are quite small. The wings are very crunchy. If you want to try their sauces it will be an additional charge. I give the wings 4/5 just because it is a little small. The overall cost is average. read more

Lest time all our food was cold, the owner messaged me back promptly and offered to remake my meal but I ignored it. Yesterday and today we decided to grab some fish/chicken. A 100% 180 of food taste, quality, freshness, and readiness. Our food was so hot that I took one bite out of the fish and had to open mouth breathe while chewing to cook it down. SEASONED PERFECTLY! The person who helped me was Malek, he was super friendly, very cool as I'm not fake customer service voice, and it was very clean inside of the restaurant. I have driven past on numerous occasions. After reading reviews, and seeing they were voted Detroit's Best in 2019, I knew I had to stop in. Now what to try for a first time? Well how about catfish, perch, cod, jumbo shrimp, hush puppies and mac and cheese. It all did sound good to us! Staff is very kind and upbeat. The area very clean and well maintained. There is a very small dining area with a couple tables. I was a little afraid I would not like the tarter sauce as it is served in those small little packages you have to rip open individually. The tarter sauce is delish. Now onto the fish. I am not a catfish person. I would rather perch or cod. It The Captain's Table has changed my mind. I love catfish. The shrimp is solid and fresh! This was our first time here, but it won't be the last. I tried the grilled chicken caesar salad and my wife tried the chicken tenders - half in buffalo sauce, the other half in garlic parmesan sauce. My salad was really good and the caesar dressing tasted great. My wife enjoyed both sauces - and the chicken tenders were cooked perfectly. While we waited for our food, the owner brought out a wing ding to try with their honey garlic sauce - that sauce tasted amazing! We will get more of those next time we come in. Decided to order since they were offering free delivery! I ordered two of the 3 piece cod meals with fries and drinks. The sweet tea wasn't too sweet but not bland. The batter on the fish was fluffy and a good texture with the cod. Needed to pop in the air fryer tho, unfortunately there was only paper in the bottom but nothing to absorb the moisture. Same went for the fries and okra. But once heated was delicious and back to original crispness. The Mac and cheese was rich, creamy and the right amount of seasonings. Blah. I used to really like this place a year ago, I thought they had delicious food. Well went there today and the lady forgot my coleslaw so my meal was ruined when I got home. I should have checked my bag more thoroughly so I blame myself partially for this. I had the 10 piece shrimp with fries. Shrimp were under-cooked, so were the fries, they had that soggy greasy taste, not crunchy and fresh. I won't be back here for a while. The pop I ordered was flat with hardly any ice. This place is in the top three of the best fried catfish I've ever had (and my ex-husband is from a family of fish-frying Cajuns off the coast of Louisiana!) I've actually ordered from this place a couple times. Up until the most recent time, it was pretty decent. My workplace is FULL of Foodies, so we're always telling each other what places to go to and which ones to avoid. The last order was the biggest: 10 shrimp half butterfly half jumbo, small fries, small okra, order of puppies... they DID NOT DEVEIN MY SHRIMP!! How EFFING gross.
