Do you have a new puppy? Are you seeking help from professionals who have real life experience properly training dogs? If yes, look no further then the Canine Coach in Saint Paul. We took the 7-week introductory puppy course with instructor Brittany P. and it was a life saver. Brittany taught us how to control our puppy with techniques such as the quiet hold, zen activities, puppy socialization tactics to help with safety measures, and proper leash walking recommendations. This introductory class really helped us understand puppy behavior, how to course correct and integrate obedience training into our daily lives. Something ironic is that week #1 we had about 5 puppies and as every week passed, we ended up being the only group / puppy for the final 3 weeks so we basically got 1:1 attention! Not sure where / why others backed down but we still really appreciated all that Brittany was able to help us with. Her energy and enthusiasm for puppy obedience were outstanding. Within this puppy course, there are obedience steps you will learn in your training and then complete homework assignments where you will plug and play what you learned into your daily routine (IE: during outdoor walks, kennel time, feeding, sleeping, etc.) There is a generous parking lot on the side and there are two rooms within the building. I can only speak towards the top level as that is where my training was and the space felt very clean considering how many dogs visit each day. My understanding of the basement room is that it is used for agility training but I am sure you can confirm this on the website. We had so much fun that we will probably return for level 2 training. Pros: Large selection of classes. If you have a dog, you can probably find something they'll like to do. Prices are reasonable. Multiple locations throughout the cities. Clean facilities. Cons: If your dog attends the very expensive Boot Camp or Fit Dogs programs they spend 3-4 20 minute sessions with a trainer, the rest of the day your dog is in a kennel. My dog did both and I can't recommend. There is a lack of consistency between trainers. Take the same course with 2 different trainers, terms and methods will all be different. Communication with the office is difficult. I and 3 others I know who used them found the same. Last but definitely not least, serious lack of professionalism in trainers. My boy took the CGC course. He passed the practice test on the last week. I posted I was proud of him on a Facebook group. The following week he failed the official test. His trainer/evaluator went on the Facebook group and mocked us, saying we received divine retribution for bragging and need to eat humble pie. Needless to say we withdrew from the other classes he was registered for. The office has repeatedly ignored my requests to speak to someone about it. read more

When I asked if the owners could call because we weren't getting anywhere in our email exchange she stated, " I am not going to escalate this any further. I am fully capable to answer your questions and have." Whoever holds her accountable needs to work with her-I can not imagine any service where not escalating something was not an option. We found a different company that managed to fit us in the next day and are happy to create extra room for us. Go Anywhere Dogs was much kinder and more accommodating. Go there (or anywhere else) instead of you want to work with mature professionals. read more

Signed up for a class here weeks before my puppy came. The puppy got here and has a bad knee and needs to have surgery. I was advised to cancel my class because I would lose my money if I didn't do it within 24 hours of the class. I found out the day before class that the vet couldn't get the puppy in until the week after our class would have ended. Tried to see if anyone had cancelled or if they did, we might get back in the class as everything was filled and my puppy will not be able to get any training until two months after his surgery. I understand that my problem is not their problem, I would however, have liked to feel like a valued customer and not just a monetary transaction. Sometimes situations arise that are unusual and if you cannot figure out how to navigate those with grace and care you will lose business. There are lots of places to take dog training classes and I will take my puppy once he's healed to another school. read more

The staff here is the absolute best. Being a first time dog owner, let alone a 12-week old puppy, I was worried that I would not be able to provide the training she needs to be intellectually stimulated during the day and develop into a well-adjusted pet. I took a chance on this place, even though it's really far from our home. The results have been great. She was able to sit on command reliably and lay down after just 4 days of training. In 8 days she is able to walk reasonably well on a leash and she can drop objects on demand. She interacts better with other people and animals. And she even knows a few cool tricks I did not expect.This is huge! I can't say enough good things about all of the trainers - they genuinely love the dogs and they also have provided me with a lot of advice on dog training and parenting. I have learned a ton from them and the books they recommended. I am going to keep Lucy in the school and programs after this 2 week puppy program is over because I feel the value of what these trainers provide is unbelievable! read more

Love this place! The trainers are friendly and very professional. They offer an assortment of classes throughout the twin cities. We especially love Coach Jess! The only downfall to the St. Paul location is the lack of parking--the lot is tiny and hard to get out of. read more

We attended the Level I obedience training with our rescue dog. The trainers were knowledgable and worked through the curriculum. Since our dog was 2 - 3 when she came to live with us and we didn't have any background on previous training we had to start with the Level 1 training. It became apparent very quickly that the class was either a refresher for her or she was catching on quick; however, the practice and being around other dogs was helpful. When I asked the instructor for idea's we could try on our own to correct one of her habits we were referred to the Private Training sessions The Canine Coach offers. read more

I have been thoroughly disappointed with these training sessions. Firstly the trainer stated that the class needs to have at least 3 dogs signed up for the class to be effective and the first couple times we came to our scheduled training there was only (1) other dog. We have a German Shepherd and she is smart and a couple weeks older than the other dogs, she gets pretty excited when meeting other dogs. In this class our dog is kept separate during the 5minute puppy socializing time ( oh yes, don't think that your pup will have a ton of play time here) . The rest of the time is spent listening to the trainer talk...? This is supposed to be puppy hang out time. This is not what I expected from this facility and trainer especially for the price of the classes. NOT WORTH IT! If you want to train your dog to sit, stay down you can read a book or watch a YouTube video and save yourself the time and money signing up for these classes! read more

I have gone through puppy kindergarten, level I, level II, loose leash walking, and CGC courses all within the past 8 months with my one year old German Shepherd and will be starting agility for fun in a week so I thought it was about time to write a review! This company is AWESOME. I've had three different trainers (Annette, Maureen, and Pauli) and they've all been spectacular at what they do. The trainers know how to tweak instruction to better suit you and your dog individually and also fully understand dog body language so thankfully none were put off by my very talkative, but very friendly GSD. My very independent minded coonhound and I just finished Level 1 Obedience. I had had my dog for 6 weeks prior to starting the class, and as a senior rescue, we were having some challenges. Jake was an awesome trainer who helped us learn basic obedience, but most importantly gave me the tools to understand my dog, change my behaviors, and help him build respect for me. Jake and Jess both went above and beyond when I called on them for additional advice to address some specific challenges. I'm so thankful for the great work of Canine Coach! I came here just for the small dog play time and enjoyed it! I signed up online, paid my $10 and hung out with 10 small dogs and their owners, it was cool. I have a 10lb chihuahua who loves other dogs and I know he enjoyed himself being that he loves the outdoor dog parks so much. My only complaint is that the basement area where they have the small dogs has a bunch of poles in the room and a few times I saw dogs smack right into them when they were running. They have a large dog play time the same time we did, and when the big dogs left, we were able to go upstairs to the bigger area and lets the dogs play for a bit. I wish they scheduled the big and small dog play times at different times so both sets of dogs could use the big area as the small area just isn't great for dogs who really want to run around. read more

Tonight when I was leaving my trainer's office with my newly adopted fearful & abused little dog (about 6 pounds)... a pack of large dogs and their owners came walking up the street towards us. My little guy of course started to flip out and my trainer Cheryl came running outside and tried to make them stop so I could get my dog either into the yard or the car-- but the trainer for Canine Coach (identified as Jenny) told the group to keep going and said loudly, "this is why we are walking here!". We were able to get into the yard, but my dog (who is only 6 lbs) got out through the fence and ran towards the dogs, into traffic. My trainer was able to stop traffic and I was able to get my dog, but he was nearly hit by several cars. The trainer that is purposefully walking a group of aggressive dogs by another trainer that specifically deals with fearful and vulnerable dogs, in my opinion, is a horrible human being. Thank goodness I have a family full of lawyers that also are animal lovers. read more

This is simply the best in the twin cities. Had a very shy/fearful dog and they helped rehabilitate her. Without them I probably would have brought her back to the humane society. Class selection is great, facilities are great and the trainers are awesome! read more

We are almost finished with our 5 week puppy training and socialization class and couldn't be happier with the results. This class has taught me and my fiance (as pet owners) how to properly communicate what we want from our puppy without using negative reinforcement. In the 6 weeks that we have had our 4.5 month old pup, he is 100% house trained (no accidents) and crate trained (he loves his crate/we have no difficulties putting him in there while at work or at night), he can sit, stay, lay down, shake (not covered in class, but used communication techniques learned from class), high-five (not covered in class, but used communication techniques learned from class), and has great impulse control (the makings of a well mannered dog). His socialization has dramatically improved around other dogs (he used to be scared and timid, now he plays with other dogs of many different sizes). I would highly recommend this class for anyone who wants a well trained pup. The key is that you really have to take what you learn in class home with you and work on it daily. read more

After some research and recommendations, we signed up our new puppy, Daisy, for the Puppy Training and Socialization class at the Canine Coach, and we LOVED it!!! Jenny was our trainer and she was awesome! She was professional, to the point, and used our training time well. We learned so much, and Daisy enjoyed it as much as we did. She is a fairly shy puppy, but towards the last couple of weeks of class she made some puppy friends that she really enjoyed seeing, and the play time brought out her personality. We are continuing our training with Daisy and are excited to begin Obedience 1 with Jenny as our trainer. read more
