I arrived around 4:30 p.m. with my 13yr old son and two of his friends to try open play. The court was completely packed when we arrived, and the staff suggested we come back around 6:00 p.m. because it "would clear out." We left and went to Atlas Park to pass the time, then returned at 6:30. At that time it was equally packed so I asked at what time would it clear and how do they manage the time of players. The staff member said they "just look at the cameras," or check payments which, to me, sounds like there is no real system and that people can just stay as long as they want if they are known by staff. There seems to be no regulation or order about when someone's paid time is over. After waiting,I expressed my concerns about the time management. The staff then proceeded to tell me that I could pay at 7:15 p.m. and that the boys would be able to play on the right basket because the group there was leaving, since it was a private session. A group of approximately 12 boys who had been playing in the middle basket came over to the basket where my son and his friends were playing. The group of boys approached my son and his friends and stated that they would be playing a game first and that my son and his friends could play after their game was over, which would be taking away from the time I had just paid for. One of the boys even made a comment like "don't make me violate you," which is completely unacceptable and clearly meant to intimidate my son and his friends so they would not play. I immediately went to the staff to express my concerns. For a proper game especially in a space with just one hoop there should be a maximum of 10 players, so this was already an issue. The staff member walked over and asked the boys if they could play together or move to the other side. The boys argued with the staff, ignored what he said, and simply continued their game. The staff had no real authority, and nothing changed, so we ended up leaving. I am extremely disappointed not only because this place is taking people's money without any clear way of tracking court time or giving everyone a fair chance to play, but also because the staff could not ensure a safe and respectful environment for players. I had hoped this could be a regular place for my son and his friends to play and maybe even become members, but this was an awful first time experience. I hope management seriously reviews their open play policies, staff training, and crowd control so families and players can feel safe and actually get the court time they pay for.

It just feels good to see staff at the front greeting me in and showing me the ropes of the place. I have seen this location many times passing by but admittedly foregone it in favor of Blink Fitness years ago because that was close to my location. Wanting to switch to another gym brought the opportunity to come here and it is slightly friendlier compared to Puregym, at least not as cold or sterile. It is Spring Break now so of course the gym was pretty packed but for what it's worth I was fortunate not to come across people doing super sets on various machines or spending several minutes on one machine I wanted to try out. Even had short conversations with 2 gym goers. In this day and age, social connection is very valuable so it felt almost as good as getting a solid workout in. Granted the Red and Yellow theme seems a bit garish, almost as if this place was created and run by Hulk Hogan but it's a nice change of pace from the dull and monotonous theme of the previous gym I was in. The one perk the gym has that separates it from others is that Retro Fitness has it's own Smoothie bar and a varied selection of them. I chose the Mocha Mania to be my first one and it sure does fill you up. It makes for a fine replacement as opposed to going to a fast food joint after a workout. Retro Fitness is my new home and with the highest tier I signed up for, I'm ready to explore more.

Also I'm sick and tired of being harassed to re rack other people's weights . I would use the 120 lb dumb bell to bench press . However during the time I'm using it , members would rack their weights where the 120s go. I would put the 120s in the spot of the rack that's open like in any other gym. Alfred would bother me to constantly un rack the weights on the 120 spot that I never used and then re rack those weights in the right place even though I never used the weights. to It's not my job to RE RACK the weights they used . If the 120 lb dumb bell spot gets taken by another weight ...that's not my problem or responsibility . No gym I been to has ever harassed me to re rack other peoples weights , I only re rack the weights and equipment I use . If someone puts a 90 lb dumb bell in the 120 lb spot on the rack , it's not My job to now un rack their weights, look for the right spot it goes on and re rack their . I been at NYSC since March of 2025 and I never once been harassed by this

This is the type of gym you come to to learn and work at. The mirrors here are for technique, not flexing. The ring is for work, not Instagram. You don't want to waste a single minute of your time here, because any time this gym offers you is limited time that you need to value. And if you don't, you're stealing from the next person in line who cares more than you do. There is an air of machismo that permeates the space, but that doesn't imply sexism - it's something different. It's something that anyone of any gender can appreciate and use as a tool to advance their craft. It's something hard, smart, vicious - it feels revived and repurposed from days past, and it's something you may not even know you need. I did. And if you're reading this, you might too. Try to get a spot here. Sign up for just one class. It's not going to be for everyone, but you'll know right away if it's for you. And if it is, you're going to find exactly what you needed. Thank God this spot is here. I don't know what I'd do without it.

I open the place with the early regulars, and it's clear a lot of thought went into the redesign. The facility is clean and well-maintained, with plenty of cardio machines, a solid mix of free weights and resistance machines, and open space to move. The layout on the main floor just makes sense. The downstairs locker area has been nicely updated--modern lockers, a sauna, and hydromassage chairs that add a spa-like touch. There's a dedicated studio space for group classes; my daughter loves the Barre classes, but heads-up: spots fill quickly, so plan ahead. I decided not to join because of the price and distance. Anyways, this review is for the weight room... if you could even call it that. Seriously, my tiny high school had a bigger and better weight room. I go to Asser Levy Recreation, so I guess I'm spoiled with a pretty nice gym considering the price. The weight room is a tiny little cage (literally, it is fenced in) in the basement, with one tiny mirror. Very limited machines, small range of dumbbell weights, no space to do any barbell exercises (deadlifts, squats, lunges....). There's a smith machine and one incline bench set-up. Just a disaster really. The cardio room had a decent amount of machines so that was nice. I guess I gave an extra star because it's cool that there's an olympic powerlifting team, and the place is cheap, and the basketball courts looked nice.

Also, the first treadmill I hopped on was broken. Seriously, only 3 of the buttons worked. In addition there are no locker rooms. Rather, there is one small row of lockers, many of which didn't appear to work, which are placed outside the restrooms. The only plus of this place is it's cost. $75 for a 6 month membership and $150 for a year's membership.
