Truly astounding to find food this good in the middle of nowhere. We only stopped in because it was next to our motel and because they have an outdoor dining area. (road trip with dog) Oh, my! The patty melt and hamburger were unparalleled anywhere. Fresh Kansas beef. Never frozen, the server said. Seared on a grill. Simply the best. The homemade french fries! Stuff of dreams. I also loved the homemade ranch dressing on my salad and pie for dessert. Add a cold beer and you'll never eat better, anywhere. We were just passing through and thought we would give it a try Delicious food! Great service!

I was driving between Arizona and Nebraska when we stumbled up The Cafe. My daughter (age 8) and I were hungry and hadn't seen much. We figured, how bad could it be! The parking lot was packed. She ate a burger and I had a soup and sandwich. I was so surprised and relieved to find such good food in such a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. At one point, i had to go to the restroom and told my daughter I'd be right back. As I walked by, a server assured me she would keep an eye on her. Personal touches like that are often no longer in existence. We make this drive several times a year and we will stop here every time. I had the best burger I've had in a very long time in this little cafe. We arrived Sunday for lunch in the middle of their after church rush, but the service was friendly and fast, and the food was outstanding! Everything was freshly made, their prices are beyond reasonable, and the staff are exceptional. This is a great place that I'll make a point to go back to the next time I'm in the area. read more

Great friendly, fast service. Food tasted like home cooking. I ordered Country Fries Steak, my husband had the stuffed burrito. Our friends ordered shrimp and burger with fries. I almost went flying by this place, but the little voice that lives in my head, screamed, "TURN AROUND AND GO BACK TO THAT PLACE". I usually listen when that happens and when you are driving a 36' motorhome that is pulling a 24' cargo trailer, at 65 feet it ain't easy. We did it and we are really happy we did. Best food I have had in a restaurant in more than six months. At age 80 I can't remember further than that. I had the chopped steak w/ mashed taters and gravy and a side salad. The salad was a pleasure and remindful of the 1950's when food actually tasted great. If you are within 50 miles of this place, change your route and get over here. I am impressed. We were passing through and this place was packed so we stopped. They had a small patio and we sat there with our dog. They brought her a water bowl! We both had the green chili burger. The burger was awesome and the green chili was excellent. My husband wanted to come back for breakfast even though we are staying over an hour away. The service was also excellent. read more

This place is an absolute delight. Wonderful restaurant right next to the highway 40 in Winona, KS which site in the middle of God's Farm and Beef Country. Great Family atmosphere with a friendly staff and amazing food. Owners moved here from the Big City to be closer to home and serve local farming and ranching families. Weekend evenings are pretty busy but you can always sit on the outside dining area. A true delight in Small Town America. Highly recommended, regardless of what you eat, its all good and freshly made.. no precooked/packaged food here and you won't pay an arm and a leg. Don't let the outside fool you. It's a must stop. Owner is chef and takes lots of pride and uses lots of love in his cooking. We both had burgers and the best we've had in 20+ years. I assume that everything is good here. He cooks everything fresh right in front of you. Prices are reasonable, environment is very clean and welcoming. Husband and I had lunch here today (06/01/19) and were awestruck by the food and service. The food is seasoned by the chefs (Charlene & Curt, Owners) before it gets to your plate. Adding any seasoning is superfluous. Also, my Ribeye Steak was cooked to deliciousness at medium rare and enhanced by Curt's Garlic Butter Sauce. The French fries are cut in house and fried to perfection, being salted by Curt on their way out of the fryer. Husband had the Chicken Fried Steak with White Gravy, Onion Rings and a Side Salad with real Bleu Cheese Dressing and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant is spotless and the camaraderie with Charlene, Curt and Lisa sublime. We had Charlene's Chocolate Lasagna for dessert and neither of us could stop eating it. They make everything - and I mean everything - from scratch. And the size of the portions mean we can enjoy their cuisine tomorrow night as well. Thank you all for a very lovely afternoon. Old-fashioned roadside cafe. The place is clean and the food is excellent, although it's just the standard fare. I got a kick out of the waitress asking me if I wanted crackers with my salad and a glass and ice for my soda-LOL. She DID provide silverware with our meal without asking. Haha read more
