[Out-of-Towner Review]…read more The name had me swooning before I even arrived. This independent bookstore is nestled in a non-descript shopping center with a variety of restaurants and shops. As I pulled into the parking lot, I didn't have many expectations. However, when I walked through the door, I was quickly proven incorrect! TYB is a cute, quaint bookstore that is filled with a great amount of books by genre and for a variety of readers. The staffer that was there was extremely helpful and happy to share some ideas for the book for me to purchase. I was in need of a book for my work travel, since I'd accidentally read my book too fast and did not bring up a backup book (rookie mistake). I perused the romance section, new releases, sale section, staff picks, and every nook and cranny of the bookstore. I finally settled on a new release, which was actually a signed copy -- bonus for me! I also snagged a really cute book for me (soon to be) nephew, as I've been building out his library as I've been building out mine with my independent book store visits! Overall, this is a great store for Birmingham, as they don't have a huge local bookstore options. If I'm back in the area, I'll definitely stop by and grab a book...or three! Exactly what you'd want out of a local, quaint independent bookstore.

If you haven't had one before you definitely need to get some. It's the chocolate chip cookies, but they're salted. It gives them a different flavor. You can go inside and get something to go or eat it there because they do have tables for people to sit at. We came here on Mother's Day around 5 PM on a Sunday and it wasn't really busy. This was the spot we would all come to to do homework. It's still got that same warmth and charm. I came in on a Wednesday morning to sit and do some work. I ordered a cappuccino, bran muffin, and a breakup cookie to take home. The cappuccino is just as expected. Served at the perfect temp, great flavor. The bran muffin, which was my attempt to be healthy, was really a delicious stand-out. I would definitely get that again. And, of course, the breakup cookies are some of the best cookies in town. They bake all of the baked goods in-house, I believe, which gets a round of applause from me. A lot of the recipes are still the same ones I remember from 7 years ago. One thing I noticed that's even BETTER than I remember was the books and gift selection. A lot of the books caught my eye. It's a great curation of fiction, non, memoirs, birding books, children's, etc. They also carry the Village Apothecary candles, which are made locally and have some packaging I really love. Church Street is one of the Birmingham staples. I hope they're open for a million more years. They do what they do exceptionally well.

We were doing a Girl Scout cookie booth that they were so thoughtful to allow us to have. I will be returning soon to make a purchase because it was a couple of books I saw I would like! I thought that everything was beautiful and really loved the reading nooks that were in two of the rooms. I like that they had a nice little mix of items available for sale. I even eyed a vintage coin purse and some glass candlesticks.

Just yesterday I was informed that the item was not available and that the order would not be fulfilled. Now I have tons of spam mail from this company. I'm fairly confident that they will list things that are out of stock as being available in order to build up their contact list. Unfortunately in addition to all of the new email spam I now have to scramble to get my 5 year old a present. Thanks a-0 books-a-million, what a garbage company.
