It's not the best burrito in the world, but it's not the worst burrito in the world either. Wish they would setup more tables in their upstairs area as it seems really a waste of space the way it currently is setup. Good menu with a decent bit of options to get your Mexican fix. The quest to find the best Mexican in Amsterdam continues.

Inside the shop, don't mind the Segway drivers.

I was hopeful after reading that Beyonce ordered burritos here. Burrito was average and I wouldn't order one again here.

I know Amsterdam is more expensive, and that I can't expect to get the same size as in the US, but even after weighing these factors in I come to the conclusion above.

If you are looking great Mexican-inspired comfort food in Amsterdam, Parakeet is a absolute gem…read more It's tucked away in Oud-West near the Foodhallen and has such a cozy, lively vibe. The Food: The homemade nachos are the real deal--super crunchy and clearly house-fried. I highly recommend the pulled pork (The Vondel); the meat is incredibly tender and the toppings are so fresh. One thing to know: the portions are massive! The "half" option is honestly more than enough for one person as a full meal. The Drinks: You can't come here without trying their margaritas. They are perfectly balanced, and they even have a spicy version that is dangerous! I also love that they have a great selection of other cocktails and non-alcoholic options for those not drinking, so everyone in the group is covered. Pro-Tip: It's a small, popular spot with limited seating, so definitely make a reservation if you're planning to visit in the evening. It fills up fast! Great food, big portions, and even better drinks. I'll be back for sure!

My friends and I chatted with the owners, who have loved Amsterdam for years and dreamed of moving here to open a restaurant. It is obvious they put a lot of heart into this place, which manages to be both uber hip and inviting. Also their dog Lucy is just the sweetest and is happy to welcome you at the door. More importantly, the nachos are AWESOME. We tried the chili nachos and the pork, and both were delicious. They told us they make the chips in house, and it shows. So much better than the typical Amsterdam nachos. We also loved the queso dip, which is hard to find here. The cocktails were excellent too. I especially loved the coconut daiquiri, but the margarita was great as well. The prices were very reasonable. They said the drink list is seasonal and I can't wait to try out the new drinks. Parakeet is such a gem and I can't wait to return!

She said they don't but that people usually get a quesadilla. So we said that's fine. The quesadilla came with jalapeños and the woman told us to pick them off which we tried. My toddler still cried eating it so we asked for a quesadilla without jalapeños. This is when all hell broke loose. The same woman that told us to pick the jalapeños off kept coming up to us and telling us to read the menu better and we should be charged. She wouldn't stop or let it go!! Over a quesadilla they told us to order for our small children!! My husband said "this is dumb" and they kept saying he called the server dumb. He was just perplexed that they didn't just give us a 50 cent cheese quesadilla for our kids without all the verbal assault! When we got aggressive back they couldn't handle it and started insulting us and telling us we were disrespectful. Their behavior deserves this review. Don't suggest jalapeño quesadillas for kids and then insult your customers! Get rid of that server that couldn't let it go. What a nightmare to have for any business! I'm alerting every single person I know to never come to this restaurant.

They have some drinks (not the best margarita but good enough) by the glass, half liter, and liter. Wine available and then beer choices of Corona, Pacifico, or Bavaria. The chips and guacamole is a good sized appetizer (and they brought more chips when requested). The chiliquiles aren't what I think they should be, but are quite good. Kind of nachos. The shredded beef was like a nice spicy barbacoa. Yum! The portion of fajitas was big. It came with guacamole, two lg flour tortillas, and kind of a three bean salad (odd). The bean soup was a very tasty black bean soup. Great heat and nice consistency. I have been missing Tex mex and this place helped. We will be back.

Their tacos and burritos are far from California or Mexican. However, I will give them another shot at some point to see if they even qualify for a 3 star, but I know one thing is that they are definitely not close to the real thing. I would suggest this spot if you are looking for good service, something fast and ok to eat or looking for a quick inexpensive meal. I've been here nearly 3 years and have yet to find a suitable substitute for my burrito love, but this place may have moved into the top position on my "next best thing" list. I ordered the "Original" burrito, the top item on the menu, but (huge caveat) I prefer my burritos bean free (blasphemy, I know). The burrito was nice and large, the same size that you'd find at a Chipotle in the States. This is an improvement over other burritos I've found here. The wrap was warm and soft, another plus. However, the ingredients, while delicious, were not warm. They were cold, even? This may be because the storefront has no door - it's open to the street, and the cafeteria-style ingredients are then subject to the cold Amsterdam air. The temperature of the ingredients - which in my case was pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole, grilled chicken, spicy sauce and rice - is my only major complaint. I had mine spicy, which - while not eye watering - was at a healthy level. It was very gooey with cheese and runny with sauce toward the bottom - but nothing I'm not used to with foil-wrapped burritos. The guacamole seemed lumped at one spot in the middle. I would have liked to see it spread around a bit more. They offer some unique sodas, brand colas, bottled water and Corona. I asked for a Corona but they were out, so I had a soda. Fine, whatever, but a Corona would have been nice. My burrito came with a handful of chips, which was a nice garnish, but nothing more. The establishment itself is pretty small, even for Amsterdam. There's maybe room for 15 people to sit either at a table or at a stool along the wall, and thankfully the place was relatively empty when I went there at 8:30pm on a Thursday. Take-away might be a good idea. The location is pretty good, in the south Jordaan not far from Dam Square. Staff was nice, and asked me if I enjoyed my burrito after finishing - a nice touch in a region of the world not known for warm customer service :) Verdict time: I give it 3 stars because while I enjoyed it, the ingredients were cold, but that could easily be remedied and make this a 4. But I'll definitely be returning!

But when it comes to burritos, I want the traditional walk down the production line where you point to each item you want in your burrito. After we ordered on the screen, we watched them assemble the burrito, it wasn't what we wanted. So we had to interrupt the process...it wasn't well received by the manager (guy fully tatted up thru his neck). He was visibly annoyed by us. Additionally, one our burritos had clumps of food that wasn't distributed...cheese clump, rice clump, beans clump. We won't be back. Positives. The place is clean and well lit.

I ordered a combination enchilada meal consisting of one chicken and one beef enchilada along with the refried beans and a small salad in the middle of the plate. The waiter asked if I like my food spicy. I said yes so he added more jalapenos to the meal spicing it up a bit. He also served me chips and salsa although the salsa was more like a hot sauce than a salsa in my opinion. Regardless, it was a welcome change to what I've been munching on lately. I also had a mexican beer, a Dos Equis. which was one of several mexican beers that they offer. On top of all that since they carried Cuervo Gold I orderd a shot of that. Overall the menu had some interesting choices I'd not seen in other mexican restaurants in Amsterdam. I must assume from the name of the restaurant that burritos are their trademark specialty. I'll have to go back because I wasn't in a burrito mood. I'd go back to try more things on their menu. They're also dog friendly.

Two thumbs up for playing some Rolling Stones in the restaurant, making a good pina colada (which is not mexican btw but still yummy) and putting a decent amount of cheese on the dishes. I feel like this place has potential. Maybe Gordon Ramsey needs to come here and help them out? And lastly, the icing on the cake... the prices are ridiculous for the quality of food you get.
