I've been going on about wanting to visit Wallace Well Farm for ages now and purely due to time…read moreconstraints we've never made it. Today hubby and I had a rare baby free afternoon and decided to go on a lunch date. "Where do you want to go?" "Wallace Well Farm!" It was 1pm and the place was fairly busy but it's so large we found a nice quiet table in the back. The menu is massive and after much to-ing and fro-ing I went for the Sweet Potato and Mozarella Burger with a side of deep fried jalepenos. It is famed for its carvery but we decided to leave it for another day. Both my choices were really nice. The burger didn't come with any salad or sauce which I found slightly strange but I improvised with my side salad and sour cream from my side. The service was really quick too. No faffing around here. We were in and out within the hour. We decided we couldn't visit without getting some cake to go. Who could walk past that cake cabinet without being at least tempted? Hubby and I love a cheesecake so we both opted for the toffee cheesecake. We thought about taking two different types and sharing but this one just looked so good we couldn't see past it. I've managed to eat a couple of mouthfuls so far so I can vouch for it being yummy. The takeaway box comes with a use by day which is handy because it'll take me until Tuesday to finish it! Wallace Well Farm was worth the wait and we have both agreed not to leave it so long next time.

Total mayhem Go in wait to be seated .... You will either be pointed to a location with a "there's a table up there" or you will be sent to the adult wait to be seated section to again wait on a team member to come along and randomly point to an area The food at the carvery is ok, the fish was terrible but the t bone steak is brilliant The customer service really lets this place down You sit at your randomly pointed at table if you can find it .... Then you order your meal at the bar .... Always a lengthy line up.... You order and then you go sit .... You don't ever interact with anyone again unless You want dessert ..... You have to again go line up at a different till this time Either it's not manned or it is, it's a 50/50 if you are lucky enough to not be in a huge line but there isn't anyone at the till, don't expect the many team walking past or on the other tills/bar to even acknowledge you are there, go find the person for the till or even man the till themselves Now their desserts are cheap and huge so out of 8 visits i always wanted dessert .... I only got dessert half the time as I usually give up due to the line, service or just because I don't understand why it takes so long to hand over a pre packed cheese cake me from a fridge (they call that cakeaway which isn't working as i rarely waste my time waiting)

Booked table for Fiona and I on a Tuesday night, as the weekends are rammed. Wasn't overly busy with 3-4 tables there at 6:30pm. Waitress came running over from behind counter, bubbly and friendly to seat us. Her colleague came over with menus and mentioned the specials, along with offer of drinks. Fancied their Chianti, so she came back with a small glass for us to try beforehand (nice touch). Ended up with the bottle as a result! Went for starters of calamari, mains of Lasagne and Fiona has risotto, but they kindly added prawns to it for her. Chatted with the waitress & instantly from sitting down here, it has a very different feel from Nonna's Kitchen. No, it's not slick and fancy with a Fiat 500 car sitting outside purely for marketing purposes. It's COSY and welcoming. I'm instantly relaxed as is Fiona. This is what I want from a restaurant... lets hope the food lives up to the ambience and service so far! Calamari - cooked fresh, not from frozen, but cut a little too thinly and lacked seasoning. Still nice though, but for £5.95 it could be better taste and portion wise. Glasgow City prices here after all.. Mains didn't take long to come - 15 mins or so and wowser. There was certainly no lack of portions here! The focaccia bread looked amazing (cooked!) :-) Dug into the bread whilst the lasagne cooled. Stark contrast from Nonna's and the lasagne was bursting with flavours. Fiona even said her risotto was the nicest she'd had so far, from ANY restaurant to date. It might be slightly more than Tony Macaroni's lets say, given they do special 2/3 course meal deals, but with the portion sizes and quality, it was well on a par with City Centre restaurants. Saved space for dessert & had to have Tiramisu and Fiona tried Torta Della Nonna. A traditional Tuscan dessert with pastry and vanilla. Whilst mine was stunning, Fiona was left disappointed in hers, as it had nuts all over it (hates nuts!). A little heavy on the icing sugar dusting too. Lass said she'd change the menu to show nuts on it, but despite not being eaten, it remained on the bill. A nicer touch would have been to take it off as first timers here and an issue with the menu here. That said, we both had a very relaxing, friendly banter evening, learning about the restaurant, staff etc and experienced FINALLY, some freshly cooked food locally. I will 100% come back and take the mother along to sample it and hope the standards remain consistent here. You Gotta Eat Here - For Sure!! :-D

We had an AirBNB in a nearby town and wanted dinner without driving all the way back to the more populated cities. Looking at Yelp we found this location and decided to give it a try. Kirky was fairly dead at 7pm on a weekday but the local parking lot was free by that point in the evening. Cafe Marian was an short stroll from the lot behind the church and the staff welcomed us in. The food was good and the service was quick (ish - I mean, small town dinner, don't expect the food in ten minutes). Quick note - at the time (late May 2019) they only took cash - there's an ATM across the street, so no biggie.

We have just moved to this area, and were on a quest to find a great fish & chip takeaway. Having previously had a terrible experience with fish & chips in Bishopbriggs, someone on Twitter recommended Ghiloni's. I love that this is a long-established family business, and it is always busy both times I have been in. The takeaway area is a small area separate to the dining in area, and as well as having a huge takeaway menu, it is a sweet shop heaven. Glass cabinets bulging with jars of sweeties, and trays of ice-cream seem to sparkle and shine when you walk in! So down to the business of the fish and chips. After our first visit, I think I would have rated it as a 3-4, the fish was fresh although the batter a little heavy and the chips were moreish! However, our last trip to Ghiloni's for fish & chips was incredibly disappointing. Both the fish and the chips were very greasy and heavy, and left a funny aftertaste in my mouth. When I scraped away the batter I found the fish mushy, and lacking in quantity. The fish:batter ratio was not good, with far more batter than fish! I think we should try it again, as this appears to be a local institution, and I want to love it! But, I must say I am a little reluctant to go back and pay for what we experienced on our last visit!

Couple of rolls to go when heading out for an adventure. Ice cream on a hot day. It's local, been here for ages and seems more of a habit that somewhere I plan to visit. You have the sit in area. Fills most of every ones requirements. Burgers, Fish n Chips, Rolls, Pasta and breakfasts. I usually ended up with their special chicken burger. Chicken burger, bit of bacon, relish, salad and a side of chips. Price was about £6, ended up getting it too many times I was sick of it. There is also a take away area next door. Can get all your usual chip shop style options. Ice cream of all variety's and forms shapes etc...For old school sweetie lovers they have jars stacked up right in front of you. Brings back some memories. You could end up spending a fortune. Staff are friendly after a couple of visits you end up feeling like a regular. Price wise it can be a little pricey but nothing too ridiculous. Food is good. Only downside is that if it is a holiday or the weather is glorious then it can be really busy. Both in restaurant and the take away area. This can then lead to order mistakes and waiting a while. Sort of usual but just a warning. I love the place. Spend way too much time here, but then again I think everyone from the area finds themselves here. If you are visiting Kirkintilloch, you have to pop in here. The place is almost a landmark.

Popped in Sunday evening for a quick bite and first impressions - couldn't find the restaurant as it said it was on Cowgate, Kirkintilloch. It's actually right behind it on a side street, across the road from Smiths Hotel. Noticed walking in, that they have opened a Burger Room downstairs. I'll check this out another time! Friendly enough welcome, but as there was a private event on, we had to make do with a table right at the entrance, that can only be described as a waiting room. Massive flatscreen TV on the wall with MTV Teen Awards on... just what I love to watch eating out... ahem. Lass sat us down and gave us the menus.. or should I say battering rams, as they were so large, we both couldn't read at same time, really no need for a menu to be bigger than the table! Took drinks order & Fiona ended up with a small glass, not a pint of diluting juice. Couple came in after & same waitress sat them down and explained the menu & 2 courses for £9.95 etc.. Something she didn't do with us. Some consistency would be useful. We had a voucher for buy one, get second curry for a £1. Always sounds great, but you know it ends up the same cost. Compulsory requirement to test the Vegetable Pakoras (Briony's fault!). I had the Brasserie Masala Lamb (Patia/Tikka Masala style), Fiona went with Chicken Dopiaza. Couple next to us snagged our pakoras (well, the server did take them to them and they graciously accepted despite ordering 5 minutes after us!). Their loss, as we ended up getting theirs, which was a portion each, not to share.. moah ha ha! Nice and crispy, but still a little doughy inside. Nice flavours though, so a 3.5/5 for these. Didn't have to wait too long for main courses. Portion sizes.. well, no issues here whatsoever - quite generous & we both struggled to finish the dishes. Mine was pleasant enough. Tender lamb and nice flavours, but it did become boring after a while with the sweetness. Fionas again was nice, but suffered the same fate. Not being an Ashoka curry go to person, it really did feel like the sauces were added to the dishes, compared to say Cafe Asia in Muirhead, where it's cooked fresh. We had a few different people serving and all quite pleasant and well mannered. Our bill was wrong, as they charged us for the drinks from the table next to us, that had already left..doh! As usual though, the bill despite a second curry for a £1, still came to £25 for one starter and two curries. Not that much of a saving, as thats what we would pay in Cafe Asia. Probably would give this another go and try something different. The burgers going past our table looked amazing, to the other restaurant downstairs (rather random I know!). One of the better places, but not in the same league as Mother Indias/The Dhabba etc. You Gotta At Least Try It - :-D
