Only open a couple of days a week - at the weekend - it serves quite reasonable food and fantastic beer - personally I love the absolution. The landlord is usually to be found drinking a bowl of tea in the bar by the fire with his whippets and reading the Telegraph. I wish it was my local great way to spend a Saturday lunchtime in the middle of a days walking! Be warned though it doesn't suit everyone though for the life of me don't know why!!

During our visit we ate in the restaurant several times. The Fish n Chips were fabulous, very tasty and not greasy. The Toad in the Hole was another favorite and a new experience for this American. The Sunday Roast was second to none. The owners, Diane and Phil, are very hands on with their business and are delightful to speak with. When we are back in the area, I know where we will be staying.

My request for a part refund was at first considered but at the end I was told I was given extra salad and a tiny bit of chutney so it was going to be full price. I can't believe the salad was any bigger ( if so, the original amount must have been tiny) . Anyway the point is , no fries and given no choice over any replacement and given no apology and no part refund. Terrible service and attitude. False advertising of a product- it wasn't just a case of running out, never had them to supply in the first place.

It's a charming little pub chock full of classic English heritage. The staff were lovely and accommodating and the selection of ales, ciders and beers were most superb. We only nipped in so didn't get the chance to stick around for the fodder but the menu consisted of some great classic British dishes and really seems to be aimed at a good mixture of locals and visitors. There's no food served on Mondays though and most places seem to shut down in this neck of the woods on a Monday (quite a few on Tues too) so make sure you have a back up plan! Some seating upstairs and quite a cavernous traditional, heavy on the wood setting inside - check it out!

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.
