I love freshly baked bread -- The Brick Oven Bakery is my favourite place to visit when I'm in the Burlington area. My favourites are the sourdough bread and sandwich buns. Prices are very reasonable. The bread has a perfect texture and taste in every bite, whether eaten alone or with the wide selection of deli meats (love that they will do thinly sliced that melt in your mouth) and cheese. I'm also happy to see that they offer nitrite free chicken or turkey as well. I also tried the mini pizzas. They were ok for a quick bite. The staff are pleasant, and quickly ask if we need help. The deli counter can be a bit slow depending on who looks after you. The place is small and gets busy. Lunchtime is also busy when customers drop in for Italian hot food takeout. Overall, I recommend this bakery. Some of the regular customers recommended the hot meatball or chicken/veal sandwiches loaded with grilled veg so I'll probably try those next. read more

Italian deli or Subway sandwiches? The people have spoken! The Brick Oven Bakery still stands while only the imprint of the Subway sign remains. I'm not sure if this was actually what caused the Subway to go out of business but I wouldn't be surprised. You're greeted with classic deli smell when you walk in. To the right is the bakery counter with desserts like cannolis and cookies. Since it was close to Thanksgiving, there were full sized pies available. I'm told that on the weekdays, that's a hot counter that has great lunch options. The back of the store has the deli counter that has a big selection of meats and cheeses. We went with salami and pastrami on this occasion. To the left of this counter are all the breads. Some are on racks while others are in baskets that you can grab with tongs. We grabbed some kaiser rolls here. The middle section of the store are grocery items. There were a lot of Italian specialties that and artisan goods available. There was flavoured risotto, herbed olive oil, and those big Italian cakes that come in a box for Christmas but was pumpkin flavoured for fall! read more

It's impossible to walk by the hot food or bakery section without craving one or more of their tempting dishes. Everything is prepared fresh with the highest attention paid to quality and delectable details. The frozen section has a wide assortment of prepared lasagnas and more to satisfy the most discerning tastes & demands for convenience for everything ranging from dinner at home up to catered corporate events. The staff is knowledgeable and proud as they should be to work here. In talking with other customers they told me they have been coming here faithfully for many years. I have been going to the Brick Oven Bakery for over 15 years and they have the best crusty buns in Burlington by far, you can not beat their roles and breads, and everyone in Burlington would agree. The hot plate is great for a quick lunch and I can tell you everything I bring home from the Brick Oven is enjoyed by all members of our family. My son says it is the best lasagna he has ever had. The Brick Oven has been a tremendous business in Burlington for 33 years and you don't hang around that long unless you offer great products at a fair price. The veal sandwich, lasagna, and pizza in the hot plate are my favourites. I find the deli meats great as well. I have always found the people that work at the Brick Oven to be attentive, nice, and always friendly. I am more then happy to recommend the Brick Oven Bakery, but honestly everyone in Burlington knows they are great, thats why its always busy and they are always baking to keep up to the demand. read more

I can't think of anything negative to say about this place. My family has been coming here for the past 20 years for all of our buns, deli meats, and occasionally, Italian food supplies. In particular, the buns and croissants are excellent. Try them. I personally don't visit here very often, so the staff doesn't know me personally, but despite this, they treat me as a regular. This is the way businesses ought to be. They put a personal touch on their service, and in a world where everything is sold in cookie cutter fashion, it's a breath of fresh air. This review isn't coming from a grumpy old man reminiscing about how businesses used to be in the good old days--I'm 28 years young, I just appreciate the personal touch and it seems like they truly care about their customers and want to make the world a better place. Why would anyone buy their meats and buns at a giant corporation knowing they actively price gouge customers to please their (super rich) shareholders, when one can instead choose to support a local family business that serves high quality goods? I have been going to the Brick Oven Bakery for almost 20 years. I have purchased almost everything in the store - from cold cuts, buns, cookies, desserts, pizza, food off the hot counter etc. My children know if either the lunch meat or buns did not come from the Brick Oven ... sandwiches are returned home uneaten. I was looking for a bakery on my way to work and The Brick Oven Bakery was close by. I purchased Sicilian Cannoli and Chocolate Chip Cannoli. Both were decent. I think they need the ricotta to be stronger in taste and also the shell to be more tasteful. I also got a chocolate brownie to which I really enjoyed. The batter was soft and moist. The chocolate icing on top was perfectly like an icing. Overall, I found the cost to be too high for the fair quality and taste of the food. read more

The Brick Oven Bakery is the best in the world, Their BUNS are so yummy when your bag is empty you want more, When I go I get 3 + dozens some for family member but the rest are for me too enjoy. Great for left over turkey sandwiches or loaded with soft butter on it 's own. The Baked goods you say enough about them,they are so rich. It is easier to get your sweets there then too bake them yourself. Our family has been going for years. The pricing is very reasonable The staff are very friendly and go that extra mile to help you get what you are looking for, and also offer their recommendations to try this or that... Ordered all food for a function from The Brick Oven Bakery and I must tell you it was all fantastic, Lasagna (both meat and Veggie), Veal Cutlets, Penne a la Vodka, roasted Veggies, Salad and loads of amazing desserts. Why is the food in Burlington so bad? I mean pathetically bad. I went looking for an authentic sandwich on fresh bread. Pickings are slim in this city, so I headed to the closest bakery, The Brick Oven Bakery. The place was clean, with 3 or 4 isles of imported Italian groceries items. A nice deli, a homemade frozen food section, some baked goods and several prepared items including lasagna, chicken & veal parmesan, meatballs and meat pies. All looked fresh. I ordered the meatball sub and chicken parmesan sandwich for my wife. I regretted my decision of the meatball sandwich when the clerk started pouring Kraft parmesan cheese on the sandwich after I affirmed my desire for cheese. Kraft processed cheese is not PARMASEAN cheese, so much for authentic. She wrapped each sandwich separately in wax paper and put each one in its own paper bag. No, oven heating. Upon getting the sandwiches home, they were soggy. The meatballs were mushy, tasteless and had the texture as they had been stewed all day. No seared crust, just a stewed ball of meat on soggy bread. The chicken parm was uneatable. The prepared breaded cutlets had also been stewing in tomato sauce which turned the breading into a substance resembling wallpaper paste coating the overly cooked chicken. The cheese was steamed to rubber. So if you are looking for a boiled tasteless chicken sandwich with glue and rubber on bread with way to much cornmeal grit this is the sandwich for you. On a positive note the staff was very helpful but apparently no one likes working there, not one smile the entire time I was there. read more

@ Tommy M... What an unfair and unjust review. I have been going to the Brick Oven Bakery for the past 11 years. They prepare freshly baked bread each day to satisfy their customer needs and restaurant deliveries. I would like to see you go into work every morning at 1 am with the dedication and passion they have at the Brick Oven. In terms of the cheese... common... they have Parmigiano reggiano there that can be purchased and freshly grated. Is it the end of the world if they use Kraft cheese due to convenience purposes? You go into any "authentic" Italian restaurant and I will guarantee you the majority of supplies they use aren't Italian. I personally know the cook/caterer. She is absolutely lovely and cooks the food fresh based on demand.. she does not let it "stew" nor does she "boil" the chicken. And give me a break, of course the bun will be soggy by the time you get home. What did you honestly expect if the meatball sub and chicken parmesan come drenched in homemade tomato sauce???? I don't mean to attack you but you honestly cannot beat the authentic Italian bread and food prepared by real Italians who were actually born and raised there. Hell, i can barely understand one of the owners lol but he is always in the front making jokes and entertaining the customers. Absolutely love this quaint little bakery!!!!!!!! My favorite bread would have to be the Hot Cross Buns.. they are amazing but unfortunately they only bake them around the Easter season. Nonetheless if you are in the Burlington area this place is definitely worth the visit!!!! ENJOY!!!! read more
