Sleep Country - Painter's tape indicates where the 2.5" wide slats are along the top of the "boxspring".

    Sleep Country

I ordered online and then had a series of issues with the order. There was also the fact that it…read morewas the wrong mattress for us. The crew at East Hills Sleep Country went out of their way to make everything right and I was compensated for the inconvenience.

Last week I took delivery of a new mattress and boxspring from SleepCountry (Country Hills…read morelocation). I have issues with both items, although for this review I am only going to cover the boxspring ( the description on the sales receipt is: D/S Showroom Base - Queen Brand: SPWAL 3-142230SPB). Actually the term "boxspring" is misleading since nowadays it seems that most "boxsprings" don't have any springs, they are just wood or metal frames with wooden slats going across the frame, although I didn't know this when the salesman selected the boxspring for me. Boxsprings I have purchased in the past actually have springs to provide support to the older-style pocketcoil matresses that are flippable with a 20 year warranty (unlike most modern pocketcoil mattresses with pillowtop that are not flippable with 10 year warranty). The boxspring wasn't on display in the store, so I just trusted that the salesman was selecting a good boxspring for my new mattress. As soon as it was delivered I knew that the boxspring would not be satisfactory. It has a wooden frame and wooden slats across the width of the frame. However unlike any bed I have seen that has wooden slats, the 2.5" wide slats in the boxspring have 8" gaps between them. There are only 6 slats in the queen size boxspring! How are 8" wide air spaces going to support the mattress properly? When I called the store 30 minutes after the boxspring was delivered, the salesman said he couldn't do anything about a refund and said I needed to call SleepCountry customer service, so I did right away. They told me they couldn't do anything until the order "closed" and I needed to call them back on the next business day which I did. The second time I called them they said they could not do refunds, the only thing they could do was charge me a $65 exchange fee and I could select a better (and more expensive) boxspring. I said that I'm thinking that the boxspring is "defective" having only 6 slats in it (maybe it's not made properly?) and on those grounds I should be able to return it for a full refund. The boxspring is still in it's original sealed bag. The CS rep said there is nothing wrong with the boxspring and I should go back to the store and talk to the manager. So I left a message at the store for the manager to call me, it's been a couple of days and I haven't heard anything yet. In the meantime I've been to the Brick and looked at some of their boxsprings (which they actually have on display in their showroom). The Brick has nice boxsprings with proper support at very reasonable prices, including a Sealy Posturpedic with continuous metal spring support) for less cost than what I was charged for the crappy one that SleepCountry sold me. Why would I pay SleepCountry ~ $200 more to "upgrade" to a better boxspring (after spending $235 for the crappy one), when I can go to the Brick and spend $150 for a good boxspring? I can't believe SleepCountry is willing to lose a repeat customer (they have records on file of my previous mattress purchases) for the sake of not allowing me to return a low-cost item like a boxspring that is still in new (sealed bag) condition? I would not recommend SleepCountry and will never be back to them in future. They have lost me as a customer although based on their treatment of me they couldn't care less.
