My #ThankYouThursday review goes to the Brew Cellar. Not only is the guy that works there each time I've been friendly, he knows sour beers, and I've never left there with a 4 or 6 pack that I didn't love. I was nervous as the local brew options are transitioning from summer to winter flavors, but I shouldn't have been, still have loved everything I've picked up. This great little local spot is my go to for to-go sour beers. PRO tip, bring cash if you can. Not required, but appreciated. The Brew Cellar is such a cool spot. I can honestly say I have never been to park circle without popping in. It's a cozy little building nestled between Common House and Fratellos. When you walk in you are met with wall to wall beer that can be purchased to-go. Opposite the entrance is a small little bar where you can purchase local beers on tap. The taps are forever rotating so week to week you can come in and explore a new flavor. I was immediately won over by the fact that they had Maine Beer Company on tap AND in bottles. That love slowly smoldered with a very beer-nerd conversation with one of the bartenders on staff as we chatted about wet hop versus fresh hop beers and the best NEW beers on the market (which of course they had all of!) The Brew Cellar is a small shop compared to some, but is definitely winning in the Charleston Market. You'll pay for the lack of competition, but their selection is stellar for the size. Pretty chillax bottle and drink spot in Park Circle. Super lazy lab doggie that greets people too. They have about 12 brews on draft and Untappd scrolling when you check in. There is also a fridge that you can enjoy from too. The place doubles as a bottle shop for beers to go. They have plenty of board games, but limited on indoor seating, so it's best to go when the weather is nice because there is a good amount of outdoor seating. The prices are little bit high for park circle, but they're pretty much the only craft brew shop in Park Circle, unless you count Coast Brewery--which is actually a mile away... Definitely worth checking out if you're into similar places like Craft Conundrum in West Ashley or House of Brews in Mt. Pleasant. read more

Awesome local and craft beer selection. The staff is really friendly and they were Tajik precautions for Covid which is always good to see. The prices are fair and I was delighted to taste some new IPAs and a few sours. This would be a great place to hit up for a few cans or growler before going to the beach in the nicer months. The Brew Cellar is a welcome addition to the Park Circle area. It's like having The Charleston Beer Exchange in North Charleston. All the more reason to make this interesting little area a destination. The guys running The Brew Cellar are really excited and enthusiastic about the whole thing. It shows when you first walk in. Since the soft opening they have continued to grow their stock and acquire many new and interesting hard to find craft beers. You'll see Stone, Ommegang, Evil Twin, Terrapin, and many other great breweries all present and accounted for. The prices are fair, and the guys are eager to please. They are open to suggestions for new stock. Upon my first visit there, I was blown away by seeing so many bottles of Bell's Hopslam and bombers of the mighty Green Flash Palate Wrecker at the ready. The spot is cozy. It's small and intimate, just off the main drag in Park Circle. They also have a four tap growler station where they try to keep some interesting brews handy. They have custom growlers and pint glasses, so you won't go without if you drop in unprepared. After just a handful of visits I'm loving The Brew Cellar. Tiny in size, big in selection! This is a great spot for craft beer lovers to visit, buy beer to-go or sit and enjoy a pint from one of their various beers on draft. John, one of the owners, was great to visit with and explained what you see on the shelves (or stored under the center island) is what you get. So, they don't have an excess of beer just sitting around, which is great in terms of turnover and freshness. They also carefully select their inventory, only stocking beers that are guaranteed to have a strong interest among their clientele (and they've tasted ahead of time.) I was personally impressed with the options they had stocked when we visited over the weekend - some great Imperial Stouts (!!! Yes !!!), awesome IPAs and DIPAs and many others. For those wanting to stick around and enjoy a beer, the inside IS very small, but the center island allows for enough space for people to gather around. Patrons can also get comfy in one of the many tables they have on their outdoor patio. Beer geeks can follow the Brew Cellar on Untappd to get the latest notifications of what is on tap. A word of caution: You will be tempted to go back and try more beers with every notification! I'm definitely looking forward to going back. read more

I was tired of driving 25 minutes to buy craft beer, so when The Brew Cellar popped up on Google Maps, I squealed like a school girl. I have been there a few times already. My first impression was nice. The inventory was small, but well thought out. Each time I returned the inventory had expanded, so that is a nice thing to see. The growler-fill station always has some interesting options. The guy helping me was very knowledgeable, but he wasn't pretentious like some experiences I've had at a certain place downtown. Small, cozy, intimate version of the basement bar you want to create in your own home, but don't have space for! Feel free to be social, as you swig one or two back at the communal table that stretches between the bar and the front door. Despite its size and intimacy, I didn't feel claustrophobic in here-- there were an appropriate amount of people roaming around the premises at one time and no one seemed to ever have to wait for a beer. Beers on tap are great: a mostly local selection. And if you're not fond of the ones you see on the chalkboard, then you have a wall or two of bottles to choose from. I could easily imagine spending an afternoon here just chilling. This is a laid back, no pressure kind of place that you could easily treat like an extension of your home. This place is tiny and doesn't have a huge selection of bottle beer nor beers on tap but there is something about this place that just draws you in. I think its the combo of the service, the beer selection is small but has harder stuff to find, and the stuff on tap is also the harder stuff to find. I also like how they handle limited edition beers. No list. First to show first to get bottles. Also for the hardest to find stuff they do a lottery. Makes it fair for everyone instead of just providing to friends. Stop in and look and see if you can find that harder to find beer you are wanting then kick back with one of the beers they have on tap. read more

I have visited this place more than a dozen times, and not once had a bad experience. Today, like every day, I found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. While they certainly don't boast the largest selection in Charleston, it is quite clear that considerable thought goes into what they carry in their compact retail space. Conundrum me this: As a spectator for the wiffy's first marathon in Charleston, I require the following amenities towards the finish line: 1) Decent beer 2) An atmosphere that doesn't reek of weekend warriors, those that take themselves too seriously, and those that make a spectacle out of running a marathon. Yes, I get that it's some people's first, but act like you've been there before, Schrodinger's cat style. In other words, if I see someone who's just completed the race wearing a medal, I will high tail it AWAY from said establishment. 3) Ideally free parking where I can quickly vacate the premises of said people in #2. I stumbled across The Brew Cellar after finding free parking on the same street, less than half a block away from Montatgue. They weren't quite open yet at 11:45 on a Saturday, but a waiting customer was seated outside smoking a loosie, and his appearance, while completely fine by me, would probably deter the vacation bible school loving congregation that would rather eat/drink at Dig. So, I sat on the comfortable patio until the establishment did open. Categorically: Selection of tap beers: 3 out of 5 With only 6 rotating taps, it's likely going to be hard to please everyone, but they've hit some key demographics: 2 local brews and 4 all around decent brews. Selection of bottles: 4 out of 5 I don't know what to expect, as I am from a town in N. Carolina, but the selection here seems to be commensurate with what I'd find at home. So while perhaps I won't be able to find the most bougie of European tripels, I DID spot some regional and local favorites. Customer Service: 5 out of 5 Anywhere that lets you bring in your dog while you work = plus. The nice gent slinging beers behind the bar on Jan 16 at noon was pleasant, and didn't seem to mind that for all intents and purposes, I probably "look like" one of the people that I've voice my displeasure with in #2, above. Answered my dumb questions nicely, like, "Can I buy some of these cans and drink them here" and "Am I allowed to take glass on the patio?" You know - things that a local wouldn't ask, but perhaps would trip up a tourist if he or she didn't know any better. Value: 3 out of 5 Tap prices are maaayabe slightly inflated (but I am not certain), but I'd rather pay 50 cents to a buck more for a pint, be left alone in peace, and still be able to spot people running the marathon. For reference, pints of beer were approximately 6 - 7 dollars. Remember that a 3 on Yelp doesn't mean that I detest it - simply that it's "A-OK" Overall: 4 out of 5 Rounds up - but a pleasant experience for me. Really awesome 60 degree day in Charleston, drinking good beer, get to pet the bar keep's pup, and no annoying spectators or runners ruining my otherwise pleasant experience. read more

We went there pretty late on a saturday (we didn't know if anything else was open because it was sort of late). Beer selection was slim but picked up a few packs of beer. We aren't from the area and didn't know the liquor laws so we asked the guy if anywhere sold beer on Sundays, he said no where will be open Sunday to sell. The only recommendation I would have is a happy hour. We attended the Rockabillique yesterday and came across this place. We entered ready to not only buy a drink but to take some products home. I started to shop and my husband spotted a restroom. As he entered the restroom the clerk, proprietor, brewmaster or whomever he was yells to him "why don't you buy something!" My husband paused as he was as shocked as me to be spoken to this way , and replied "I intend to." At that moment, I stopped looking at merchandise and just ordered him a beer (which he only filled half the glass with). I realize he didn't want people just using his restroom, there were ample porta potties, besides we are not young, we would not just walk-in to an establishment and use the bathroom and leave. A great place for good beer. It is a hike to go to West Ashley from Hanahan/Goose Creek, so it is awesome that there is a place that can satisfy that craving. The staff is very helpful, and they don't push you to buy. The selection is insane, with beer from around the world of varying gravities. I purchased a Belgian abbey ale that was some of the best beer I've had. The on tap options were top notch as well. It's a awesome local business, and if you are looking for it, they might have it.
