Sutton seemed like a good place to stop for the night during our West Virginia Rd. trip. I did literally zero planning on that and just assumed there would be restaurants in the area but much to my unpleasant surprise, there were not very many options. I was very relieved to see this place within a pretty short walking distance from our accommodations for the night. I was also relieved to see that it was still open shortly after 7 on a Thursday night bc Google scared me saying they closed at 7. It's possible that they do bc when we walked in there was no one else there. Could also be bc it is a very small town. They don't have alcohol which was a bummer. They do have enticing sports-bar-like appetizers and fried ravioli which caught my eye. We kept it simple and both ordered burgers, I was grateful for the veggie burger option. Service was great. I, as a vegetarian, don't usually order burgers so I needed some assistance. Our server basically held my hand through the whole thing and asked me step by step how I would like mine. GF and I both succumbed to the side of fries. The burgers were served on a really delightful brioche bun with fresh lettuce. The fries were incredible. Our server went above and beyond and asked if we wanted any dipping sauces, finally a server that speaks my language. Very good experience here in this very unique restaurant. read more

Different ambiance, and I like different! Folks were in costumes, i assume for a bog Fallout Festival. I didn't catch what was going on, but it was cool. There is axe throwing i immediately noticed upon entering. I think I was expecting something different bc it is a "Bistro". It has more of a Bar and Grill vibe. I ordered the steak bc of reviews i had read, and I was ready to love it....but it did not deliver. Both of our steaks were over cooked. Our bread, which looked delicious, was cold in the middle, perhaps frozen and reheated not long enough. Portions on then sides were small. Cheese sauce on the fries was saucy. I would have preferred actual cheese. We ultimately sent food back and ordered a burger and reuben and were pleased. Most outstanding thing was the wait service and management! They did make sure we were happy. They apologized for the leas than stellar experience. I would come back again. I felt like it was just a one off. We all have times like this. I think the menu is creative and Sutton is just such a cool vibe. I am rooting for this place! read more

Just finished our meal and we're so happy to find this bistro.. everything we had was fresh and delicious. Hand patted burger, fresh cut fries and onion rings, all fresh ingredients in Cobb salad with house made strawberry vinaigrette, and finished off with house made brownie, ice cream, whipped topping and chocolate syrup. It is definitely no frills, but to have freshly made instead of a chain establishment was a delight. The owner's young niece and restaurant manager who served us were very friendly and served us well. On our next trip from Ohio, if we're in the area, we will definitely stop again. read more

The "bistro" had me confused! The fact that the tiny town of Sutton even had a bistro had me confused!! It's definitely not a bistro by definition, decor or menu choices but the food is solid and the service is very good. We stopped in on our travels through the area and enjoyed a nice lunch in the nearly empty spot. Probably gets to hopping at night with the axe throwing and music. The restaurant itself is definitely screaming for some decor, something to look at on the walls perhaps, something to give some character and personality to the dining area. The burger special was really good, plenty of seasoning and flavor and the Reuben burger was also very good. Stopped in at 11:30 on Thursday and the place was empty. It's right between the museums, and it's local, so we gave it a shot. Upon entering it's hard not to notice how dirty and run down everything appears. The floors were sticky, dirty tables, menus falling apart. Just generally grimy. But it's a local hole in the wall and it gets 4.5 stars so against better judgement, we stayed. Table ordered a Braxton burger, nachos, salad, a mac and cheese burger and a few BLTs. The BLTs were on hoagie rolls and were 95% bread. Inside was a tomato and some limp bacon wrapped in a single leaf of lettuce. The burgers were not flavorful. The fries were homemade but undercooked and soggy. The salad was actually not horrible. The nachos were the worst thing of the day which is saying a lot. They came out a full 15 minutes after the rest of the food. Canned beans, canned sauce, some kind of reused tomatoes and no guac or jalapeños as the menu listed. I asked and was told 'we're out.' Ok, but she could've mentioned that before I waited 15 for an incomplete dish! The service was really, really unfortunate. I waited tables and managed for more than a dozen years and can deal with bad service better than most, but I cannot deal with rude and not even trying, which is what we got. We had to ask for refills, ask for side plates, ask for a status on the nachos. She did nothing independently without being asked and was rude about it. The women's bathroom door would not close. Literally would not close. Someone who takes pride in their business might say, you know why don't I take a slow weekday afternoon and sand this down? But not at the Braxton Bistro! If it was charming or quirky- yes. But unfortunately it was a complete waste of time and money and we will definitely warn everyone we can. read more

We had dinner here during the Fallout Festival weekend. Great people, great service, great food. Portion sizes were perfect. Burger and fries were DELICIOUS! No leftovers because we devoured everything. I'm a mom with 3 "big boys" - one of who is a super picky eater. Food was delicious. Decent place to stop for a burger and fries at a reasonable price. Kids menu items (Mac n cheese, chicken, etc) not great though, wouldn't recommend those. Otherwise it's a roomy small town restaurant, seems like may be understaffed/could get busy around lunch time. First I'm surprised this place had so many good reviews but maybe they were having a bad night, second they have no AC so you know your food is full of sweat. Now for the food, I had the Reuben and the corned beef was very chewy but there wasn't much of it so that was a plus I guess, the fries were undercooked and lacked any seasoning what so ever. Someone with me ordered the $15 BraxiBurger and it came with fries in a side size basket. The burger was smaller than a McDonalds burger and I'm not exaggerating. We stopped here on our way to Niagara Falls because we love to try out local places. We weren't super hungry so we split the Cuban sandwich and an order of loaded hand cut fries. It was plenty to eat and the kitchen was kind enough to split everything and put it in separate baskets. We didn't know the sandwich came with a side and our meal total was only $13.10 before tip! Down in Sutton is a hidden gem with a bit of everything. When you walk in, there is an ax on the window saying Bad Axe Bistro (pictured). Stepping inside, it splits to the left and right with a greeter at the door! To the left is a spacious space with plenty of seating; each table has its own comfortable chair! To the right, board games, a bar, pinball, Pacman (though it wasn't working), and even ax throwing! They have a jukebox as well, but it's cash only! That's right, a little bit of everything! The staff is very friendly; they make you feel right at home and are quick to take care of you; I don't think I had to ask for a refill once. They even made me a fresh batch of coffee at 8:30 pm. The food was tasty, I got the rotisserie chicken (pictured) I don't know what it was seasoned with but delicious! The whole meal at 12 dollars was a steal, even the apple blossom was amazing! If you get nothing else try the apple blossom. In fact, all the prices were decent and asking people what they like to eat here, they stated everything was great to eat. The restrooms were small but clean, they even have a mannequin dressed up in tie dye that threw me off when I walked out of the restroom, but it draws your attention to t-shirts and stickers if your wanting a tourist gift or just a cool sticker! This was a wonderful surprise and I would recommend stopping in here if you are ever traveling through Sutton! read more

We really enjoyed our time and meal at the Bistro. Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Our server was super friendly and accommodating. It's a very small town but a great place to eat. First the pros Fast service. We hardly walked in before we were greeted and shown to a table. Friendly. Smiles and helpful with questions about the menu. Good food. Our steaks were cooked to our liking and the sides were tasty. Price. Reasonable Cons There is a musty smell that permeates everything. It is really bad. It settles on the food and drink. It even stays with you after you leave the restaurant. Wait staff a little too attentive. Seemed with every bite they were there asking how the food tasted. Is that a bad thing? Well, ordinarily no. But you know what they say about too much of a good thing. Would I go back? Well, if they do something about that musty smell that hits you immediately then yes. I ordered the Reuben with the "potato chips" ... the chips were very good & it was actually a real potato. I can always appreciate "real" food.
