I would give zero stars if possible for their billing after promising a lower monthly rate and credit to account. It wound up costing a ridiculous $36.00 for 5 weeks of globe internet. I will NEVER order anything from the globe ever again. This was corrected by the Globe after this post. Kudos to the Globe social media folks! read more

I've been an on-line subscriber for a few years now. Although my subscription was just renewed on 12/27/21...I haven't been receiving the paper in my email for about a week or so. Trying to use their virtual assistant is darn near impossible. After a frustrating 5 minutes with the virtual assistant...I was told I'd have to call an 888 number. Is this any way to treat a loyal customer??? read more

I subscribe to Sunday home delivery. The service is totally unreliable. If the paper arrives at all, it's usually after 10am and customer service is non existent. The only thing the globe does right is that my bill always arrives on time. read more

You can only cancel by calling them and only with about a 30 minute wait on hold. They bill you about a week in advance of the month and then play dumb and act like it is impossible to reverse the charge. Or maybe the customer service people are stupid, but he sounded like he was reading from a script. The local news coverage is mediocre, the op-eds are thoughtless, and the sports coverage, I hear, is good. But the main problem is that they run a shady business operation, comparable to Comcast. read more

I have tried the digital edition to support a paper from the New England region but the the overall quality of the service leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The content and quality of journalism is great but, in this day and age, $28 for a month of digital content is ridiculous. I currently pay $10 a month each for Washington Post and NY Times. The breadth of coverage of both those news outlets is FAR superior to that of Boston Globe. There are also very obvious security issues with their site with random pages like Login and Profile switching to unencrypted http:// mode. Its very apparent that the business is poorly run and will be a relic of the past very soon which is sad. read more

I made the mistake of falling for the Boston Globe's 6 month offer. They have turned into a predator!!! With a week to go before my subscription expires, they banged my CC for $27.xx. When I called CS they said... oh yeah, we do that. They also told me they couldn't issue the credit until the day after my subscription was to end (which is a week away) and it would be 7-10 business days after that to receive it. 3 weeks to issue a credit after charging me a week in advance for something I don't want??? What is going on here?? STAY AWAY from the BOSTON GLOBE!!!! read more

The Boston Globe can't figure out how to actually deliver a newspaper. Signed up for 7 day delivery on February 5. The newspaper didn't show up at all for the first month and then only on Sundays. Still can't get a newspaper Monday-Saturday. Have called about a dozen times and reported the issue on the website multiple times. Pretty pathetic way to run a business. read more

I'm a Boston Globe fan. I have a Sunday only subscription - to be sure to get the Boston Globe Magazine & grocery coupons. The subscription also includes online access to Globe subscriber only articles on BostonGlobe.com, even if they appear during the week - which I greatly appreciate. Thanks Boston Globe for great writing about local & national stories! read more

I recently purchased a Saturday and Sunday delivery for my dad. He received the paper the first day that service started, 3 weekends later and he has not had a paper delivered since the first day. I reported each non delivery and finally spoke to a human. They ensured me the Sunday paper would be redelivered on Monday. Never redelivered. Also ensured me he would get his papers the next weekend. The next weekend goes by still no papers. Do they actually look at the online non delivery reporting system they have ? The customer service person I spoke to could not even give me a reason for the non delivery problem. Disappointed in the delivery service. read more

Signed up for a subscription. Good luck trying to get off of it. No option online even though it was a digital subscription. They make you jump through hoops for a simple cancellation. read more

Worst customer service!!! It should be so simple purchasing a home delivery subscription for my elderly mother .....but nope! Every phone call takes 20 minutes and they still can't get it right. My Mother's delivery has paused several times, and I need to keep calling to resolve. He Globe......what's the big problem setting up a subscription??? In an era where newspapers are almost obsolete, you think you would try harder to get it right. Ugh. read more

In calling to cancel my Globe digital subscription I was stunned by the relentless effort to change my mind despite repeated, 'no thank you, please i just want to cancel'. Each times the rep simply started up again trying to to get me not cancel. A few time he said he was sorry but it was their policy that he was required to continue. Not even me saying; Please just stop and just cancel, I would never consider subscribing again, I am losing respect for the Globe, and even ' you're giving me a reason to hate the Globe, yet each time he started up again. I asked to speak with a supervisor. After 20 minutes I was able to talk with a supervisor who said she was unaware of any such similar issues or complaints. I suggested she have someone review the recording of my call and she said they would review it. read more

I have been a home delivery subscriber for over 20 years. For four days I have not received a paper and the automated system has done nothing. Why can't I find a phone number to talk to a human being! So frustrated. read more

The Globe has a lousy home delivery service. In the past few weeks they have averaged at least one missed paper per week. Have reported the issue every time and called their "customer service" line to vent my frustration. My house hasn't moved in nearly 100 years so you would think they would be able to deliver a newspaper to the front porch consistently. read more

I have had it with the Globe, which I have been reading my whole life. Half of the articles are just cut and pasted from the day before WaPo or NYT. The home delivery service is a COMPLETE JOKE. (Also, they got rid of the Antiques Column on Sundauys (loved that)) This is the 4th day in 2 weeks - and the 2nd Sunday (!) I have NOT receieved a paper (that I PAY for.) The so-called "customer service" line is a TOTAL JOKE- 100% automated with a bunch of empty promises (lies) that a "a replacement paper will be sent." Lie. Lie. Lie. It never comes. Never. But you still get charged. Sick of greedy owner John Henry fleecing me for my hard earned nickel. (the same guy who raised the price of beer and shrank the size of the cups at Fenway. Is it EVER enough?) I am cancelling my 40 year old subscription. Such bigshot newspaper professinal owners - they cant even get the papers delivered, or provide human and honest customer asistance. Such bad service. Such a rip off. Bye. read more

Horrible customer service. It is totally nonexistent!!Waited over 20 minutes 2 times to speak with a person. They were supposed to call me back and never did nor did I receive any email. I just called to cancel and the woman was impatient and surly. When I asked please for an email confirming my cancellation I was told; 'no we don't send out emails '. They don't do anything. Stay away from the Boston Globe!! It is not the newspaper it once was and they do not care about their readers. I will find my news elsewhere. read more

Our delivery person walked past our door to deliver our neighbor's New York Times and when we asked where our Sunday Globe was he said, "my apologies, no paper today, but will deliver tomorrow." Seriously? When I called the Globe to complain, all they offered was to extend the subscription by one day. No wonder this paper loses subscribers daily! Now I must go out to buy the Sunday paper at a ridiculous $6.00. Way to lose customers, BG! read more

Have been a Boston Globe subscriber for many years Paper is great and until about a month ago delivery service was wonderful ( coudos to Jackie and Ted LaChapelle) service now is terrible. Some days paper never arrives. I call but have to deal with machine. Would like to continue getting paper but not if it's going to be late or not at all. It is to expensive for so much aggrevation. read more

As a home-delivery subscriber of 17 years, I have been putting up with miserable delivery service for four years, since the Globe decided to cut costs by switching to a low-cost distributor. Late and missed papers have been a routine part of life for our whole town, with Globe promises to investigate delivery issues going nowhere. In the past couple of months, home delivery has turned into a farce, with zero morning deliveries. I've finally cut ties with the Globe. The content in the Globe is good, but their ongoing push to drive everybody to their digital subscription model comes at the expense of their longtime print customers. read more

NO DELIVERY or LATE DELIVERY for the past 8 weeks.  We are Globe home delivery subscribers for over 30 years.  Current cost $98 per month.  We have made every effort to address the situation with Globe Customer Service. Daily calls are made to report the ongoing delivery problem, and request adjustment to our account when no paper at all arrives. No response on the service issue and no adjustment is made to the account. There is simply no response.  Wow! How can this operation be run this poorly? read more

Worst experience with a subscription ever. It's 2019, Boston Globe. The fact that you have to call to cancel is archaic and to me, just a way to harass you and make it difficult to cancel. Not impressed with their website and everytime I hit a link from Facebook it error messaged. If you are thinking about subscribing, I suggest you just use other free news services. I also suggest you don't do a trial because you still have to CALL to cancel. Thank goodness for PayPal and the ability to unauthorize future payments. read more

I decided to cancel my online subscription. I called this morning, and it was like pulling teeth to do it. The Globe representative tried all sorts of tactics to stop me from canceling, like: "How much do you want to pay." When I said nothing, he persisted. Finally I told him to stop or I would file a complaint against him. read more

This is by far the worst freaking news service I have ever encountered. First of all they make it stupidly complicated to cancel your subscription by having to call in to a support specialist?? This is why I have no respect for the Media.. read more

Two days, no physical paper and no responses to multiple inquiries through multiple channels... The New York Times is getting delivered. How about we get with the program Boston Globe?I know they are owned by different companies and they have decided to use a new delivery service. We shall see if we ever get a paper again. read more

Want to pay for a newspaper? Something a bit better than the comic they hand to you for free in the morning? NO?! Would a Pulitzer prize persuade you? How about a weekly column on social manners? Tales of the City? Coupling? Crossword?? So you're still not interested. Well, I'm not sure I can blame you. The Globe is a good newspaper capable of some fantastic journalism but it just never hits home as a great paper like the Washington Post or The New York Times. Perhaps the NYT (the Globe's owners) are holding it back. Love the website though - in depth, free, and with the weather tower thingy at the top of the page. Ideas for improvement: Don't make the website ask me to register all the time Don't make me turn to page G12 to finish my article. I'm lazy! read more

After being a Globe subscriber for 34 years, I am sorry to say I had to cancel my subscription. Many, many calls were made to Customer Service regarding a delivery problem. I am 81 years old with some health issues and don't feel that asking the paper be delivered to my front porch should be a problem. Although my home is not far from the street, many days I had to walk down the steps and retrieve the paper from either the front lawn or sidewalk. When the Globe sends out coupons for 2 free papers weeks before they make a major change in their delivery service, aren't they planning to fail?? Fail they did. I only receive the Sunday Globe, and it was never delivered today. When I went out to try to use my free coupon, I could not find a store that had any papers left to purchase. I stopped at 4 locations. read more

Thankfully I had a better experience than most other people reviewing this. The paper is still worth a read, but not for $27 a month. But the customer service is awful. Lesson learned: before you subscribe to ANYTHING online, read the cancellation policy FIRST. If it requires a phone call to cancel, DON'T SUBSCRIBE. Its a sign that the company intentionally makes it difficult to cancel. It took three phone calls, long waits and a non-call back to finally talk to a representative to get my Globe subscription cancelled. read more

Outstanding writing. Great, great sports page. A Sunday edition that you look forward to reading. So, why the One Star rating? Because if you decide to stop delivery or, in my case, "I just want to take a break for a few months," the process makes leaving a cult look easy. You have to explain yourself to multiple people, tell the same story over and over--"I JUST WANT TO TAKE A BREAK!!!"--get put on hold multiple times, and then resort to threatening to use bad language. It's INSANE how annoying this department is. Oh, and then, after all that, they didn't stop hitting my credit card as promised. Great paper. Impossible to surpass the bad customer service. Read. Don't subscribe. read more

I signed up for the special $1 digital subscription and receivced an email thanking me for my subscription. No where did it say what the rate would be after the trial period ran out. Saturday, I opened my credit card statement and found a charge for over $29 from the Boston Globe. I called and after a very long wait I was connected to customer service rep who tried for over 20 minutes to get me to extend my subscription. I ended up cancelleing and Here is what I learned 1.) It is against their policy to send an email notification when the new rate commences. By the time I discovered the rate almost a month had gone by so I could not cancel before the new rate took effect. 2.) It is against their policy to prorate a subscription when cancelled. 3.) It is against their policy to refund subscriptions In theory, they could have charged me $1,000 and I would have no recourse. Spotlight ought investigate. Shabby treatment Do not do business with them! read more

The Boston Globe digital subscription promotion is a SCAM! Beware! With no notification, my credit card was spontaneously charged $27.72! Initially, the customer service rep told me there were no supervisors. After I mentioned contacting the Attorney General, he was suddenly able to transfer me to a supervisor. She claimed that all customers receive notifications but could provide no additional details or proof. I have now had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. read more

Beware of the Globe $1 offer. I accepted the previous offer of $1 a week. They are now offering $1 for 26 weeks for the digital subscription. But at the end of that "gift" subscription they start charging 99 cents a day. That's almost $365 a year. Oh yes, you can cancel. They accept cancellations only by phone so be prepared to spend a few hours waiting for a person to speak with. read more

The Boston Globe is the jankiest media site of all time. It's so sad that I have to write this, as I subscribed to local journalism but, despite paying $27/mo (!!!) for a digital subscription, I have never been able to log into the website to read a single article. I've tried resetting my password multiple times, only to be told that the email on file isn't associated with a subscription. So, I called customer service to cancel my account. Not trusting that anything will get done, based on this historically shitty experience, I asked the rep if she could send me a confirmation email. I was told they don't do that, but she assured me the call was being recorded and that I could access that recording at any time. "How?" I asked. "Call back," she said. I asked if there was a confirmation number associated with the cancellation. She said no. What the f*ck is wrong with this company? Do they realize it's almost 2021 and user experience is a thing? I feel bad for the journalists and everyone else working there because the website makes their work impossible to access and enjoy. read more

I used my credit card to pay for a home delivery special. They assured me after the special rate and I cancelled the paper there would be no more changes on my credit card. GUESS WHAT I got a $24 charge. In my book they are thieves and can't be trusted. I'll never get that paper again! read more

I recommend that you do not sign up and prepay for home delivery. They will take your money, guaranteed. But they will NOT guarantee that your paper will be delivered and when it isn't you are NOT entitled to a refund. In What other business transaction is that allowed?! read more

Like everyone else here reviewing delivery, I've had terrible experience. I have a Sunday subscription. It rarely arrives without a phone call from me, and that means I get it at lunchtime. If I didn't want it for breakfast, I'd go down the street and buy it when the shop opens! The "customer service" seems to be in India, and the people I've talked to are not helpful and never seem to understand my comaints. The people on the phone from the delivery service are nice enough, but the delivery person does not deliver the paper! The Globe likes to automatically renew subscriptions, which is funny since they don't automatically deliver the paper. Obviously, I've canceled my subscription. N.b. the same delivery service is used for the Times, so I guess I can't subscribe to that, either. read more

As others have noted, the worst customer service. Do not get sucked into their Digital Subscription 6 months for $1 promotion. I did, and I regret signing up. Once your subscription is due to renew, they charge your credit card IN ADVANCE of the subscription expiration. I tried 8 times to cancel my subscription before it expired, all without success. The only way that you can cancel is to call them, which I did 8 times. Once you go through their menu system, you sit on hold forever. Look at other reviews on Yelp - this happens a lot. They are doing this intentionally to make it difficult (to impossible) to cancel. I thought that I would try calling back and selecting the menu option for new subscriptions instead of the menu option for cancelling. Bingo! I was connected to a customer rep almost immediately. However, this rep claimed that they couldn't cancel my subscription and put me back in the endless phone queue again. Okay, I'm done being nice: 1. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau against the Globe. 2. I will be calling NBC Boston's Consumer Affairs department. 3. I will file a complaint with the MA Attorney General's Office. read more

How on earth is this still in print? Aside from the fact that NOBODY under 80 years old reads the newspaper anymore - Boston globe doesn't even let people browse online without a subscription.
