They…read morejust re-opened after a renovation to expand the Teacher supply departments (it looks like they must do a huge business in teacher supplies as most of the store in now devoted to this.) There are art supplies, kids work books, board games, teach supplies, and regular book store section. The clerk said that as part of the renovation they have gotten rid of the used books and the actual book store selection is probably limited but sufficient. It looks like they are still getting organized from the renovation because the book section was not yet labeled with how the books were organized. I was able to get a story book, educational book, Kindergarten work book, book for my 9 year old niece and a "summer read" for myself. It will be a new stop whenever we are in Fairmont.

Books-A-Million is a chain bookstore located inside the Meadowbrook Mall. This store is near the Marshall's entrance of the mall, with plenty of lot parking. It is a bright and well kept store, with front displays and shelves that cater to best-seller fiction readers, both adult and young adult. Then the typical common genres are shelved in the back, i.e. fiction, non-fiction, childrens, etc. We stopped in just after Christmas, and all of the calendars were half off, so I snagged a couple of those. My 12-year old son was particularly enamored with a set of fountain pens, and purchased them for $13 with some of his Santa money. I was impressed with the larger assortment of Tarot decks in stock in the mystic section of the store, with a new pasta-themed Tarot deck I had not seen elsewhere. In the bargain book section, I snagged an anthology of Ray Bradbury short stories I didn't have for five bucks. My husband bought a few books too, including the novel that the show 'Altered Carbon' is based on. The staff were all friendly enough, and are doing a good job overall of keeping the store tidy. We were just visiting on a family road trip to the Bridgeport WV area, but if we lived near here, we would frequent Books-A-Million when in need of a chain bookstore.

The bonus side to this location is that they have plenty of staff working around the location to make sure you're getting what you need or assisting you when you can't find that book you were looking for. This location has a coffee shop located on the right-hand side of the bookstore and has a few tables for you to sit and hopefully not read the entire book before putting it back on the shelf... Anyway, the café was clean. I did try to go over there but the line was long and not moving fast and I was feeling impatient so I decided not to get anything. In the back of the store is where you'll find your movies, cds, and vinyl. I was pretty impressed with the selection of new vinyl they had in the store. I'm always shocked though at the prices of their DVD's and CD's knowing how cheaply they can be purchased elsewhere. The rest of the store was neatly organized in the traditional B&N fashion. Everything listed at the top of the bookshelves making it easy for you to find what you were looking for or maybe you'll stumble upon a book you never knew you needed. Either way, this location will suit you just fine.

The general fiction leans heavily towards the Christian fiction and related genres, but there was some contemporary fiction like Saramago and DFW (I almost bought a copy of "Infinite Jest," but really, when am I going to have time to reread that?). Their sci-fi and fantasy collection wasn't too bad either. Prices were pretty good (the aforementioned DFW was listed at $7, and sci-fi paperbacks between $2-4). The proprietor let us know that everything is catalogued, so you could inquire about a particular title if you were looking for something specific. It looks like they also buy used books, which is good to know. They do play religious music in the store, but they also have Bible verses posted in the window, so I suppose that's fair warning.

The customer service is great in that customers are greeted and help is always offered. When they opened the new location they also added board games. Oh did they add board games. It is now *the* place in the area to go for gaming. They have a killer board game library that can be rented to play in story or even rented for overnight. Their selection is bar none and the owner knows his stuff when it comes to gaming. If one is into role playing games they have that covered as well. They have a good selection of role playing game books that are outside of the basic D&D. This business is one of the major go-to places when one visits this area.
