The way this "business" is run is absolutely atrocious.
This is not a safe space, and should be shutdown.
The current owner has defended s*xual assailants in the community and allowed them to patron this establishment. Not only has she defended s*xual assailants, she's also cyber bullied survivors of r*pe and s*xual assault - insinuating that they are attention seeking liars.
When confronted with evidence of an assailant admitting to his actions, the owner and former co-owner both refused to read or listen to the material. Furthermore, right before this business opened one of the owner's at the time said he "doesn't believe in safe space."
The same person employed a known s*xual assailant at the previous bar he owned before opening The Bookhouse, and continued employing that individual despite several women coming forward with stories of the employee's misconduct. He defended his decision to continue employing this assailant by saying what happened did not take place at his business, but in the basement below it, and therefore it wasn't his responsibility. The current owner of the bookhouse supported this quite vocally on social media.
When it comes to creating safe spaces in our community it is everyone's responsibility to look out for one another and hold people accountable for their actions. Sadly, The Bookhouse refuses to do this.
Given that the population of Fairfield is under 10k and the city has limited activities for teens and young adults, The Bookhouse and former "Arbor Bar" had and continue to have an enormous influence in shaping the culture of teens and young adults. The owners have successfully created a precedence for people in the community to get away with r*pe and s*xual assault without any consequences. This is is both harmful and irresponsible. I would not want my daughter going to The Bookhouse and neither should you.
By supporting this business you are supporting r*pe culture. You are financially backing the idea that r*pe is both okay and void of repercussions. Please find somewhere else to get your tea and cocktails.
