This is an awesome used bookstore with great prices and a large selection of books. I ended up getting one of the Fourth Wing series books and they had the entire series not just some of the books. Same with other series too. They even had new release sections and a ton of other genres. Cute notebooks and stationary here as well. One of the employees was really friendly and helped me find a book I was looking for and gave me some other recommendations which was helpful. I could tell she knew a lot about books. read more

I have no clue how I've never reviewed The Book Bin before. It's been a Corvallis staple for as long as I can remember, and a place I've been going to since I was a kid. I came in here yesterday with my husband. Because no visit to Corvallis is complete without a trip to The Book Bin. It's been a go-to for years. The store is a mix of new and used books, so prices vary. But it's incredibly well organized and clean. I love that they have bins scattered around for if you change your mind on a book, they'll re-shelve it for you to maintain organization. Everything I wanted was easy to find. I know where my sections are. Lol. So I rarely have questions or need help. I'm the kind of person who just likes to wander until I find what I'm looking for. They don't mind that in here, and I appreciate it. I also have specific notebooks I use and they sell them here. So I always make sure to stock up on some every time I go in. Employees are always friendly. Even during the Covid lockdowns, they handled it really well. They still have signs up encouraging you to wear a mask, but it isn't a requirement. I've never tried to sell a book in here, so I have no opinion on that aspect of the store. When I buy my books, they either go into my collection or are given away after I read them Would I return? Repeatedly! Yesterday I found an amazing stack of books to bring home, and I do every time I visit The Book Bin. This is a great small local business to support, and I'll keep doing so as long as they're around. read more

Five years ago I despised the customer service here, I'm so happy to edit my review and compliment how vastly different the customer service from their staff is now. I needed a certain book to fulfill a wishlist item as a gift & the book bin was the only store that had it in stock. We came to the Book Bin a couple weekends ago and we had a great time! Spent a lot of time here browsing, however their titles are organized well, and they have a huge selection also. I found about 4 or 5 books, and my husband even found one also! I wouldn't hesitate to return here and would also recommend it to others. The staff was helpful, I had a couple questions about where to find certain books and they pointed me in the right direction. I like this bookstore's little selection of knick-knacks around also, and their prices are fairly low too. The Book Bin does have new titles next to used ones, so sometimes I would find two books with the same title next to each other, one was $17 (new), and one was $10 (used), and I would always grab the used ones. Ten dollars for a used book is a bit on the steep side, however I didn't mind as they had some books I had been searching for for a while. I was happy to find Stephen King's "The Shining" here, as well as Kurt Vonnegut's "Welcome to the Monkey House" and surprisingly one of the only bookstores with used copies of "Fahrenheit 451". They also had an extensive selection of books about World History, which was awesome to browse through, and specifically one whole shelf devoted to Spanish History. Also shelves with Japanese History, and lots of other countries as well. One area they were lacking in were travel books, this section was not very extensive and had almost zero used copies. I've been going to this book store since I was a kid and it never gets old. It's a cozy little book store with tons and tons of books, merchandise, and fun little toys. I love that the books are so cheap here and that you can also sell back to the bin! The employees are always super helpful and nice. I'm so surprised how knowlegable the people who work here are with all the books. This is the place I go when I'm bored or it's a rainy day and I need a new book. This is a great book store !!! I went yesterday for my first time to look at their used books and looked around for probably 15 mins, they have a great selection. It's not full of harlequin romance novels like other used book stores lol...I loved that they were open on a Sunday, the other stores I found were all closed. I ended up getting 3 books for myself and one for my daughter, spent exactly $20 with a bag. I will definitely be coming back to look again. read more

The Book Bin is Corvallis' answer to Powell's Books in Portland. The size of the selection is about like a Borders or B&N, but the difference is in the used books. They have a good selection of used books in all categories. And you can sell your books for cash or store credit. Similar to Powell's I love browsing the aisles and discovering new authors and giving them a try because they're used and at a good price. Great selection of magazines, graphic novels, children's books, literature, sci fi, fiction, how-to books, local themed books (Beavers, Corvallis, and Oregon), cards, and more. My only complaint is that the computer and business section is a little light. #corvsmb read more

Love this place! It is well lit and well organized with a great selection of both new and used books. I generally walk in with a load of books to sell and walk out with a load that I've purchased with my "credits". The staff is knowledgeable and friendly - my girls and I have spent hours browsing the aisles. The prices are good and the store is locally owned. Bob is involved in the community and supporting a business person who gives back is a great use of my $. I just have to add - it is SO refreshing to shop someplace and not be asked for my "card" or my zip code before I can make a purchase. read more

I've been browsing in here periodically over 16 years. I've given a very sharp review to the Salem main store but I have no quarrel with this branch. They are constantly tweaking their business model and this store has changed dramatically since I first came in. Understand that a review even a year old might not reflect the current character of the holdings. The inventory seems to be trending to newer titles, less vintage, and is discriminating. The holdings on woodworking, cabinetmaking, remodeling, etc. are superior to all my other bookstores put together. I'm not rebutting anything said by unhappy customers. I seldom purchase things here and just can't vouch for the staff. My last visit, the interactions I overheard were not rude or unhelpful. This store is right downtown and parking can require resourcefulness, and familiarity with Corvallis helps, especially on weekends. read more

I've taken my book friends to this store and after they spent half their paychecks, they left happy and remained in this state throughout the day as they buried their noses in their books. Not coming here again soon. I've been a customer for years, sometimes frustrated at the absence of selection and other times amazed they have some weird book I was looking for. However, while one might want to trust one's local bookstore, alas, that is unwise. They took a hard line on exchanging a gift. I get it that they only are there to make money and not to make customers happy... but I don't see how they are losing by exchanging one jigsaw puzzle for another with a different picture in the same line, which presumably costs the same. read more

Is a lengthy and poor review of a bookstore ironic or redundant? Books are not going out of style because of the authors but rather because of petty, greedy booksellers. A case in point? Avoid until new management. Currently, an epidemic is afflicting the populace and causing various shutdowns and stay-at-home orders. After two months there is increasing pressure to "open up businesses," mostly from business owners. Fully 85% of people polled do not want re-opening before it is safe to do so. And yet a prominent bookstore in our town, the Book Bin, advertises to be open but is instead engaging in a greed-based theft, in my experience, under the guise of protecting their employees, and at the expense of their customers. The Book Bin say they are open for business, for curbside pickup only, if a book is prepaid with a credit card. After waiting four days for one book to arrive from the next county, I walked a block to the store and a scared clerk literally tossed my book, in a brown paper bag, onto a table outside the store, locking and unlocking the door as fast as a human could do so. There is no posted notice of "no returns or refunds" - I took pictures of the outside of the store to confirm. The person who took my order never said sales were final or would not be corrected if wrong (of course not!). I did not get a sales receipt. I believe it is illegal to not offer returns or store credit unless it is prominently posted. Am I wrong? I will file this complaint elsewhere. The book I was given was not the book I ordered. When I paid for a copy of "The Jefferson Bible," I said it was for a graduation gift for my nephew. I specifically explained to the clerk on the phone that I wanted the same version I already purchased from them; a classy, small hardback with gold lettering on the cover. I was never asked for any more information about my copy beyond that description. She said, "I see it, gold lettering." I paid by credit card and gave my phone number. I received a paperback with a yellow title. I walked the one block back home and retrieved my original copy, then walked back to the bookstore. The scared clerk returned to tell me she needed to get the manager for returns, even though less than 10 real minutes had passed and the wrong book was still in the same brown bag. Someone who did not give her name claimed she was the store manager and the store policy was that no items could be returned once in the possession of a customer. I explained. I showed her the copy I previously purchased from their store. She asked me for the ISBN and had to direct me to it so she could look it up in their computer system. The unnamed manager returned to the locked door to inform me that they have the correct book at the other store and I could order it if I would pay for the second book also and wait for it to be transferred. I explained again that this happened over the course of ten minutes and it was their fault for ordering the wrong book, I waited a week already, its for a gift, can't I get the return and credit for the correct book. The unnamed manager said the store would refund, "or straighten out" their error "when the store re-opened." I observed that the store was, in fact, open at that very minute while she was, in fact, trying to take my money again for the same book. She said the store policy of no refunds was to protect the store employees. I asked why the store was open enough to take my money but they were too afraid to be open enough to give store credit for their error. She repeated robotically that there would be no refunds until the store "re-opens." I declined her offer to take more of my money after her display of such horrible customer service. My opinion of this store had crashed and was burning. This was balled-faced bait and switch with no refunds. So I asked if there was anyone higher than her I could speak to about this. Still with no name, she claimed to be "one of the owners and there is no one higher up," there was nothing she was going to do about the policy or my unneeded gift until the store opens up again(if ever?). I suggested she should be actually and fully closed until the real owner of store was not afraid to open. And there we have it. I told her I would be obliged to write a review of my extremely poor, if not criminal, treatment. She apparently was accustomed to handling cheated customers and she disappeared behind her locked door. What a shame that their reputation in this community is worth less than a ten-dollar book that could have been placed in a specially marked Book Bin and quarantined for two weeks before resale. But that would not bring in new money now for the greedy nameless owners. read more

This store has a great selection of books, graphic novels and even comics. I will heading back to visit them soon. Their prices were reasonable and the product was in pretty good shape used and fine shape new. Staff was friendly and helpful. Only real criticism is they should run a vacuum a little more often. read more

My husband brought in several boxes of books for The Book Bin to look through and when we returned a few hours later and were told that they did not want to purchase or give credit for any of them, it was clear that they hadn't even been looked at. They were still sitting in the exact same position on the floor that they had been when we dropped them off. The person working at the desk had green hair and was very cold, unfriendly, and didn't even acknowledge my presence. I don't care that they didn't buy anything, but I do care that they didn't even do their job! The Book Bin is to Corvallis what Powell's is to Portland. They have an astounding selection of books. It's a place to browse, peruse, and then go home with a substantial stack. They're a community place. They have extensive selections of science fiction/fantasy, philosophy, and religion. They support the Corvallis community. read more

This is a good place to check out maps and anime comics. It does feel a bit limited at times, but the magazine section has some interesting things now, and the decor is kinda fun too. This is the worst book store I have seen. The manager and one staff are very rude to the customers. I occasionally fell asleep when my bf was trying to find a book. They came to me and shouted at me saying it is not allowed to take a nap there. I can totally understand the policy but they yelled at me and woke me up in a very inappropriate way. They have a mediocre selection and a quiet atmosphere but they are very impolite to the customers. We will avoid this book store for the foreseeable future. read more

I agree with everyone that the Book Bin is a great place to browse and you can find some great books. I've spent a lot of money there. However, it's just sad when I spend $20 each on three books that I found a week later in Eugene for $12 each. (And then heard they were at Costco for $11.) I will stop and wander through the Book Bin, but I will not be making any purchases there in the future. I like to support the small town businesses, but I could have used that $24 too. read more

Great bookstore, and I agree that it's the counterpart to Powell's. Love browsing here, as it's super laid back, and has lots of chairs to hang out in. The best selection is in the newer titles, and you can count on finding the latest bestsellers at half the cost or less. Extensive comic/anime collection, as well as some audiobooks. Large collection of classics, and older fiction/lit. Somewhat disappointing history/politics collection, as it seems to be made up of dimestore biographies and outdated rants from Fox or CNN pundits with titles like "What the hell is wrong with liberals" and "Can't own enough guns," etc. read more

Great selection & prices for the books I've purchased for myself, and, my son always has a great time and finds some great children's books. The prices of kids books are a little steep which makes it just an occasional shopping spot but definitely quality books! i've been told this book store is owned by the same people that own powell's in portland. i first went in to peruse the selection and see if i could get the latest title from one of my favorite authors. after not being able to order what i wanted (they couldn't get it through any of their distributors) they suggested another local bookstore to try. the energy was less like a stuffy library and more like a fun hangout. they even had a decently sized mathematics section for geeks like me. read more

For instance, I had a rare book that was going for $150 to $550 online, they offered $5 for it. The book was in pristine like-new condition. Sorry.
