It does however provide good coffee, and of course breakfast. It is in fact, pretty darn good. The Breakfast club is one of those places you gotta catch early in the morning or you'll miss out. As such it probably doesn't make for the best hang-over destination. This aside, the Potato rosti menu item with two poached eggs, bacon and chipolte mayonnaise is pretty darn good. They also do a wide range of toasties for about $12 that yield a generous serve, much more than the stingy and overpriced inner CBD cafes. Popular with the hipster crowd and just about everyone else, Breakfast club is usually busy both for take away coffee and in house dining.

And totally awesome signage. Having previously lived in the nearby suburb of Thornbury, I must say I have a soft spot for anything that pops up on my radar in its surrounding suburbs. And the softest spot goes to The Breakfast Club. Simple, smart and sweet, TBC is well-rounded and is well surrounded with a more-than-modest array of retro decor and the kind of shrubbery that one can only find climbing the walls of a modest shop front turned cafe in Northcote. Hiding behind cast iron sheeting - assuming to ignore the harsh activity of Nicholson Street - is a quaint retreat for the faint-hearted. The main eatery is small but makes great use of space and seating. Passing a busy countertop I sought the alternative and snuck down the shops side path - a narrow 20 meter long private outdoor corridor of heaven, chairs, and tables. My friend and I sat for hours, literally marking the movements of the overgrowing vines as the sun passed over the clear roofing and blinds. An iced latte was the pick of the afternoon - as should be when Melbourne cafes turn sauna - a unique twist on fresh fruit and muesli accompanied my beauty of a baked egg dish filled with warm oozing egg yolk, beans and coriander, sided with an avocado salsa and crusty buttered toast - mind you, these are their staple dishes, no page turner menus here. It is often places like TBC that make me thank the stars that I don't have to venture too far from the North to remind me just how e grande Melbourne's cafe hub is.

This place has popped up by the Foodworks and is definitely still getting its sea legs. We popped in for breakfast on a weekend. I was in the mood for pancakes so I ordered the blueberry with mascarpone cheese. My guy got the big breakfast but had to do some substitutions because they didn't have a vegie version. The food came out in a timely fashion and the service was good. In the end, the service is one of the few things this place has going for it right now. The serving sizes either need to be adjusted or they need to lower their prices. $12 for 3 small pancakes... not really worth it. The pancakes themselves were good though. The coffee was alright, not the best in the neighbourhood though. The reason for 2 stars instead of 3 is that they still have opening day kinks despite being open for weeks now. The bathroom has no paper towels or a hand dryer, and the women's toilet was out of order. Their eft pos wasn't working so we had to go over to Foodworks to get money, paying a fee at the ATM. Now that there are options in the area, I doubt we'll be back. The place looks cool and everyone was really nice, but I need more than that to head back.

There's currently two menus' on offer; one for breakfast/ brunch and another for burgers. I ordered the cheeseburger for $13. What is usually a good choice became a better one. The bun was soft and fresh, improved with toasted sesame seeds. It wasn't dry stodgy or stale. The meat was perfectly cooked; crispy yet moist and tender inside. I'd strongly recommend the hand cut chips with fresh tomato relish. So for 2015, Grafete has been re-born, and looks stronger than before. Great menu to go, and hopefully will become a booming hit amongst locals. Oh and good coffee as well.

It also means that you won't have food flying all across the room as you try to eat it. The slow roast beef is fantastic and fresh, and full of flavour. I've been here a few times and whilst the food is consistently good, the service can be a bit hit and miss. I do think that the problem may have been rectified as my last visit was spot on. The interior has a somewhat "hospital cafeteria" vibe that could be easily fixed by updating the tables and chairs. My main complaint would be the volume of the music (yes I know, I'm an old man). Unfortunately for a first impression as well when your friend gets the wrong dish delivered to him and he has to get up to talk to the waitress, it doesn't leave the best taste in your mouth.
