She custom tailored the ride to my kids' more advanced riding abilities, so I'm sure she can do the same for your group. She's a bit more expensive than the other ranch near Westcliffe (Bear Basin), but very worth it. Bear Basin would only do "nose to tail" rides where you're stuck in a line the whole time. Elin at Music Meadows encouraged our group to get to know our assigned horse, get them to do what we wanted and explore the open country. (I'm sure you can do regular trail rides in a line as well). Great variety of terrain on a huge, 3800 acre working cattle ranch. A mixture of open grasslands, rolling sage hillsides, aspen groves, water crossings and amazing views of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Also, each rider was given a very nice Music Meadows aluminum water bottle for the ride, and got to keep them afterwards (probably supposed to be a secret bonus at the end, so shhhhhh!). Music Meadows is home of "Sangres Best" grass-finished beef, and you can buy some on site to take home. Since I was already covering a ride for 9 people, we just bought some all-beef bratwurst and franks, and they were delicious. She also let us sample some of their new beef jerky, which only had a small handful of entirely pronounceable ingredients. Elin also gave us a tour of the cute (and surprisingly big) cottage on the ranch. It's beautifully decorated and can be rented out. It looks like it could sleep quite a few people. I've been on plenty of trail rides throughout Colorado, and Music Meadows is top notch. Hats off to Elin for working tirelessly to carry on Colorado's rich western heritage. The ranch is protected under a conservation easement through San Isabel Land Trust that ensures it remains in its natural state for generations to come. Dang it. I'm gushing. Give these guys a try. You'll be glad you did.

Nicole was so easy to work with and talk to when I was planning the trip. We were unable to do a full day of riding so the ladies were very accommodating and we rode from 9am - 12:30/1pm. This was the first time anyone in the group had the freedom to direct their horse where to go and to trot. We had all only been horse back riding when you ride in a single file line which is... fine. This was SO much better!! They give you a lot of training before you ride so you feel comfortable directing the horse on your own. 5/5 stars definitely recommend! The ladies were also fun to talk to while riding! And the kitties at the barn were cute.

From the customer service we received before ever showing up to the clear and concise instructions prior to launch, and the expert leadership on the water, all of it culminated into a confident and absolutely exhilarating trip for our entire family. The anxious hesitation some of us arrived with was soon washed away by Lawrence who was an amazing guide. His expertise and leadership which was blended with a quiet confidence and deeply personal approach immediately made us all feel like he was a close friend of the family. Shout out to Lawrence! You're the man! As for the time on the water, the scenery is something you will never forget. From the wildlife, the towering Gorge walls, the passing train along the ridge, and every approaching rapid it all leaves a visual impression that you will be hard pressed to forget. Some rapids were more challenging than others, but I would encourage you to always stay locked in as I let my guard down on a low level rapid and almost went overboard. Speaking of overboard, one of our favorite parts of the trip was the swimming part of the trip. Our whole outfit pulled over, and we were allowed to take a refreshing dip in the river. Climbing onto the bank and taking a plunge from a natural high dive, otherwise known as a giant rock hovering the river. What a great time! Don't sleep on the pictures offered at the end of the trip. They are worth every penny! And be sure to grab some Lost Paddle Rafting souvenirs before you leave. They have a great selection of stickers for your cooler, hats, t-shirts, and hoodies. We got to swim and push my daughter out of the boat and a splash battle with the other boats. They take pictures on the river. They do it all.

There are a few different ways to summit this beautiful 14er 10 minutes from the town of Crestone…read more I did the standard route from Challenger. I hiked from the parking lot up to Willow lake, up to challenger and then made my way. You'll do a bit of ridge walking and descend 100-200 ft to a clearing and the along kit Carson avenue. It's hard to miss and the trail is defined but make sure you stay on trail because a fall could be fatal. I actually diverged slightly from the traditional trail and took a short cut up "the crack" just after kit Carson avenue. They're both class 3, but this way is more fun and avoids scree. From there, it's an easy summit! Not much scrambling required and you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the crestones, humbolt peak and mount Adam's, as well as company from friendly marmots! To descend the standard route, go back to challenger and down the way you came. Round trip in one push from the parking lot for both peaks was 16 miles and over 7K elevation with class 3 scrambling and exposure. It was a beautiful and amazing adventure. I'd recommend this hike but be comfortable with the skills required.

Beautiful 14er 10 minutes from the unique town of Crestone. The road up is a dirt road, great…read morecondition and could be reached with 2WD. I summited both Challenger Point and Kit Carson in one push, although many plan to backpack in and spend the night at the scenic Willow Lake. It was about 4 miles from parking lot to the lake. The trail is well marked and gradual although take care to quickly take a left at the sign after you walk on the trail for a couple of minutes. You'll need to cross a river to continue to the trail, otherwise you risk hiking the wrong way to Mt Adam's! I almost did this as I started in the dark, but thankfully ran into some nice hikers who steered me in the right direction. After willow lake, you'll start the ascent to Challenger. This is class 2 with route finding skills needed and plenty of endurance to push your way up the steep scree and talus. Make sure you stay right of the gully once you reach it and follow the trail to the right up to the summit. No real scrambling required and you'll be greeted with breathtaking views of the dome shaped mountain that is kit Carson and the stunning Crestone. If you choose to continue to kit Carson (would highly recommend!) you will have to come back and resummit challenger to descend. At least if you want to avoid class 4 terrain. I clocked 16 miles and over 7K elevation for both peaks. Commitment is considerable if you choose to do both so be sure to check the weather for safety.

Briana was incredibly accommodating (to my restrictive schedule), friendly, and such a delight to be around. It was super exciting to learn all about them (she fielded my ridiculous laundry list of questions with ease) and still managed to ask all about me. Magic! I enjoyed walking Patriot (the llama) around the area. I was a little skeptical, but he was super well behaved and the perfect companion. After we walked Patriot around, Briana and her lovely husband collected the adorable baby llama for me to pet. He felt like clouds and it filled my quota for cuteness for the year. I highly recommend taking a trek with Briana! (10/10)
