On a whim he decided to take this route to town. I'm glad he did as it's picturesque and fun to drive. It's a one way so be aware of that. We stopped to see the dinosaur tracks and the different designs in the rock face. Striations and layers. Saw a chipmunk and some birds of prey. Such a pretty drive.

Gorgeous drive but precarious. Drive slow and mindfully! If looking for dinosaur tracks stop at first lookout then walk CAREFULLY back down the road to the markers and the tracks are in the wall. Awesome to see!!

This was so incredible! And it's FREE! Don't take your wide or tall vehicle...no railing. It's 6 minutes and jaw dropping perspective....

I spent a Saturday afternoon in Canon City recently and discovered this gem of a place! The drive is beautiful all around. It's a relatively short drive as well so you don't need to spend a whole lot of time planning for it. Also, be forewarned that there are only a few places to pull over from the main road to sightsee or stretch your legs. At the first opportunity to pull over I missed it because I delayed too long. I recommend stopping at the first opportunity to pull over to get out and walk around a bit. I actually pulled over at the midpoint of this drive to take in the views and snap some photos. It was nice seeing a Father with his two kids taking in the sights at the midpoint as well. If you have a fear of heights or don't like driving narrow roads, I do not recommend this drive. Take your time driving this as the drive doesn't last long. It's worth it though! If I'm ever in Canon City again, I would drive this again. It's always wonderful to experience elevation; to look down and take in earth's beauty and put one's life into perspective. Hope you enjoy this drive as I did!

Skyline Drive is a scenic roadway in Cañon City , Colorado. For me taking the Skyline Drive is super scary in a vehicle. I would have no problem walking it but being in the vehicle made me feel vulnerable. No guardrails , loose rocks and sharp drop offs made it difficult not to realize that one jerky move and things can get ugly. But as nervous as it made me my husband was just the opposite. All he could think about was kicking it up a notch and making the ride in his Road King. The 3 mile road was built in 1905 by inmate labor. It is a one way "skinny" single lane road that takes you up about 800 feet up from surrounding terrain. Being from Florida and feeling most comfortable on flat land... 800 feet up is a lot.

This is free and on the way back from Royal Gorge/zip lines/rafting/helicopters. Breathtaking views with a steep drop on either side of a one-way Skyline Drive that starts off highway 50 and ends in Canon City. Bring your bikes if you have them. There are numerous 2-3 car space pull-offs on the route so you can stop and take it all in. After the first pull off you can walk back 30 yards and see the stegosaurus dinosaur tracks.

Skyline drive is 2.8 miles long scenic one way narrow road which follows the ridge of razorback ridge and gives great views of Cañon City, Colorado. If you are only looking to drive it, it takes about 10 minutes without stoping, but a warm advice to stop and hike it at least around dinosaur tracks, of course if you are comfortable without rails on the ridge. We spent almost 2 hours there looking at fossils tracks and flowers. It is a beautiful attraction and we were shocked we barely saw anyone.

Running up it without stopping is a good thing to do but if you can't cars are nice drive but I recommend hiking looking for red snakes in the sun saw the biggest one on record "Rojo Diablo" legend has it if you can start at dusk with a glass of milk and make it down other side on foot back into canon by dark and still have a glass of milk you get keys to the city

A narrow, paved road extends through a rugged landscape of rocky hills and sparse vegetation. The scene features a bright blue sky with a few white clouds, and distant mountain ranges are visible on the horizon. The terrain is arid with scattered bushes and rocks, and the road appears to be on a hillside or mountain ridge, offering expansive views of the surrounding landscape.

A quick, but very fun drive across the top of a mountain ridge. Worth taking this route into Canon City if you have a few minutes to spare. Wouldn't recommend for those afraid of heights or inexperienced at mountain driving.

Take it slow and enjoy every turn. Pull over where you can and find surprises. There are Mountain goats but you are lucky to see them.

I had to turn around because of an injury to one of my toes. I ended up walking a long distance but could've walked further if it hadn't been for my toe. Make sure that you bring water while walking the trail. Wear sunscreen and a good hat as well. I enjoyed the length of the trail and the view of the river while walking it. It was wonderful seeing fellow trail walkers as well! I love how the trailhead starts out paved and how you must walk a while up a winding incline. This trailhead is also sort of "off the beaten path" as well. I like that aspect of it as well. I'm planning on returning here again to walk more of the trail. I will definitely bring my Camelbak on my next trek. I also recommend wearing hiking shoes on this trail. Once you pass the initial winding incline, which isn't that long, this trail is completely flat. I'm recommending hiking shoes because the trail is dirt and small rocks. If you're ever in Canon City, check out this trail. You will probably like it or perhaps fall in love with it, like I have. Also, there are public restrooms at the bottom of the trailhead and there is plenty of parking nearby. The parking isn't a paved lot or lined spaces. There is just plenty of area to park at. Enjoy your visit here!

The main road to the falls parking lot is closed and you have to take gold camp road over. This is around 3 miles of dirt. So be prepared for a little bit of a hairy ride. it will be the 2nd parking lot on your right. There is a fairly large parking lot, however it fills up quickly especially on a weekend. If you want to do this you will want to arrive sooner rather than later. Dogs are allowed but are supposed to be on a leash. The parking lot for saint marys is the same as for some other trails over there, seven bridges and silver cascades being 2 of them. You will have to walk around 1 1/4 miles up a dirt road until you get to the trailhead. The trail follows a creek most of the trail. It is rocky and at times a little slick with the loose rock. It is beautiful, surrounded by forest. It was very magical and lovely. it felt so nice to be out in the woods. Mountain bikes and motorcycles are also allowed to use this trail. I'm not 100% certain, but I think that you are allowed to take your dogs off leash on this trail. I certainly never saw any signs stating otherwise and out of maybe 10 dogs we saw, half were on leash and a half off. It was a beautiful hike however we were not prepared and did not have water or maybe a hiking stick for me, at least. The beginning part of the trail is a wide open fire lane, but once you get back there it's a trail with a gradual uphill climb the entire way that turns even steeper towards the end. I was definitely asking "how much longer" for the last half-hour and really regretting that I didn't have water with me as my sensitive back started to ache. On our way down as we passed other hikers, they were asking the same question about "how much longer". The gradual uphill climb the entire way can be a little much if you're not prepared for it and the journey back down to the car is much quicker since it's basically downhill the whole way. Took half the time to get down than it did to get up. The waterfall and stream were beautiful and soothing. Walking with shady tree cover much of the way and a stream next to us was a plus for the pup to get his first experience of playing in a stream. The pup definitely enjoyed himself most of all. We took this hike in early June and on our way back we got hit with a rainstorm that dropped the temperature about 20° and we were freezing and poured on by the time we got back to the car, so be prepared when coming here in the summertime!
