Our neighborhood had Food Truck Friday and The Blu Claw was here. We had other choices as well but i really wanted to try the Caribbean Jerk chicken tacos. My back-up plan was going to be their crabcake sandwich. Spoiler...they were very good. A unique flavor of spices and Caribbean cabbage on flour tortillas. $4 each or two plus fries for $10. Food was worth it although the crabcakes and other offerings are pricey. The real problem was the long wait. I waited an actual 20 minutes in line just to order. My wife and daughter were in line at another food truck and waited, ordered, and got their food and i hadn't even gotten up to order yet. I was only forth person back. Then as i ordered they ran out of jerk chicken but luckily they said they had enough for mine and then cut off orders for jerk chicken. Then it was at least another 20 minutes before i got my food. I would recommend the food and the people were nice. If its a casual night and not in a hurry give it a try. They would be a solid 4 stars if not for the wait. Maybe next time i will try the crabcakes and maybe a 5 star rating. read more

Time is of the essence they say. Well only visit this truck if you have the time. I love the idea of having a little wait when I eat somewhere. Usually point to the direction and freshness and deliciously hot food. Well the wait here came with freshness but it wasn't all of what I expected. The mini crab cakes tasted great but nothing was hot. That was my biggest pet peeve. I waited in line to order about 30 minutes (there were maybe 7 people in from of me). Waited for my food for another 10. Took the not even 5 minute walk back up to my desk... cold food. The hushpuppies were the hottest item. Cabbage and rice and beans were missing some umph to make them good. It was just okay. Might try again... not sure. And although this didn't happen to me quite a few people came down ordering the brown stew chicken. I guess it was posted online as them having it but they only have what's on the board. Slight miscommunication but I heard at least 3 people trying to order it. read more

Curry shrimp with peas and rice and seasoned cabbage. Single crab cake. The shrimp and rice was heavy in curry flavor but not very flavorful. Three shrimp was pump and tasty but I hate having to physically remove the tails to eat the rice dish. The main star of this dish is the crab cake. Oh my gawd. That's the reason for stopping there. Crab cakes anyone? Yes, please! This review is ONLY ON THE CRAB CAKES! The Blu Claw showed up at the apartments on food truck Wednesday. Since hubby & I are Keto-ing, I wanted to make sure the crab cakes didn't have breading or fillers. I know, I know...crab cakes with no breading or filler you say? Well, luckily-- No on the breading. No on the fillers. And Not fried but BROILED! WHAAAT??? The lady said, "I'm a Maryland girl...I don't bother with fillers and stuff like that!" Ok...I'll take 2 please! The portions seemed small and pricey for 2 cakes as you can see from the pics, however, they were hot (temperature hot), fresh lump crab meat (probably market price) and the accompanying sauce was the perfect combination of yumminess! Honestly, I feel like the Blu Claw deserves 3.5 out of 5 stars. The first time I had them I felt like it wasn't really worth it. But since since they've improved a bit so I feel like four stars is pretty good. I feel that if one were to spend more for one of their entrees, then it really is worth it. The first time I had them I got the mini sampler, and despite how good the crab cakes were, I felt it was not worth the amount I paid for them. For that one I wanted to add extra hush puppies and for 7 bucks I got 4 hush puppies and one itty bitty crab cake. Was not worth it and for me I would've gave them 2 stars because service was good and friendly. When they came to my work place again I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and gave it another go. This time I decided to get the trio of crab cakes with hush puppies as a side. Still pricey, but a better deal. And another time I got the crab ball sampler, which came with two crab balls, hush puppies and two sides of your choice. It was the most expensive of the three times, but I felt this one I got more bang for my buck. Obviously Blu Claw is pricey because of good quality lump crabmeat that they use in their crab cakes. I like that you do get a lot of meat in each cake so that you can really taste it, and the balance of spices and other ingredients in the crab cake is perfect. Service is very good; very friendly folks and the time it takes from ordering to receiving is typical when ordering from a good truck. I do like Blu Claw and will get them from time to time if I'm in the mood for some crab cakes and don't mind spending a bit to satisfy my cravings. read more

Pricey but worth every penny! The Blu Claw specializes in crab cakes and Caribbean food. This was my first visit and I was not disappointed. I ordered the crab ball sampler, which came with two mini crab balls, two sides, and two hush puppies. The mini crab balls were UNBELIEVABLE. Another reviewer said there was no filler and I was skeptical, but, sure enough, there was absolutely no breading or filler in there just lump crab meat. The crab balls are broiled, which is how they stay together. I highly recommend asking for an extra sauce and grabbing a spoon to eat them with. The cabbage was DEVINE and had so much flavor without being over powering. The crab soup was also a great addition to my lunch with this cold weather. To me the only real negatives is the cup of soup was very, very small and the Mac and cheese left a lot to be desired. I've included a picture with a soda bottle for size comparison. Hungry, I checked out Jax Truckies to see what was around me. I saw that the The Blu Claw was just up the street from me so I hopped in my car and drove. I wasn't sure what I should get so I poured over their menu a bit. Then I walked up to the window and ordered the Crab Ball Sampler with Cabbage and Mac N Cheese and Jerk Wings. I really wanted the Curry Shrimp but they were out of it at the time. The lady at the register must've been brand new because she wasn't sure how to ring up my order. It was fine with me because I was in no hurry to get back to work. Another lady helped her out and all was good. I got my food pretty fast and drove back to work as the scent of the food filled my car on that hot day. I sat down at my desk and checked out my food. The crab balls were kinda small but they were full of flavor and as promised in their advertising, entirely made of crab with no filler. The Mac N Cheese and Cabbage were just kinda "meh". I have seen this truck on Facebook. They have a stall at the pecan park flea market. when I first saw that there was a new truck out and being so close I had to go see. I later found out they had a stall. So today I was in town and they were out in the truck with it's new wrap and all. At the Landing today I had to try them. I ordered the crab cakes since that is their specialty. Now we have been to Maryland many times and I have eaten my weight in crab cakes. These are pretty close to me. Slap packed full of crab meat I will say. There were also a little under seasoned for me. I did like the dipping sauce and it had some taste of the traditional seasoning of Maryland. Old Bay is the main ingredient in Maryland crab cakes and to me they need to add some more. Other then that their menu looked good and I will be back again. read more

Amazing crab cakes! We have food trucks every week at my office and this one is definetly a favorite. The crab cakes are flavorful and packed full of real crab. The mac-n-cheese is homemade and delicious. The hushpuppies are perfectly crispy! The only side note is the crab cakes are a little small, so keep that in mind. Tried the Blu Claw food truck tonight. Ordered the crab sampler with mac and cheese and potato salad. it came with some type of remoulade. Also ordered the chicken stew which came with rice and Jamaican style cabbage., Bill was around $18. The crab cakes tasted okay (they claim to be Maryland style, but not like anything I ever had in Maryland!!), There were 2 mini (quarter sized) crab cakes and were mediocre at best. The mac and cheese was from a casserole and pretty good. The potato salad was flat and tasteless. The BEST part of the meal was the 2 hush puppies. As for the chicken stew..... It was 3 pieces of chicken wings (so 1.5 total wing) in a browm sauce on a half cup of rice and a cup of less-than-tasty cabbage. Don't waste your time or money. read more

Just tried the Blu Claw outside of office in Jax Bch. I had the $10 sampler with crab cakes, hush puppies, and two sides. Really Good! I like the flavors of the crab cake and they are generous with the crab!! Caribbean slaw has a nice kick to it, and mac n cheese is definitely creamy and has a nice, baked crust on top. I was really hoping this was going to be a good Food Truck. The only reason why I chose this food truck was because in big letters on the truck it said CARIBBEAN CUISINE. That is not what I got. If you are Caribbean or have been around Caribs you'll instantly know that this is nowhere near Caribbean Cuisine. I was very disappointed. I ordered jerk chicken, rice and peas, Mac n cheese and a crab cake. Jerk chicken had a sweet BBQ taste which was odd to me... definitely not spicy. The rice and peas was just white rice with gravy and a few kidney beans. This is one of the trucks that made its way to our apartment complex, and we really enjoyed this one. There was a good amount of variety on the menu, portions, as previously mentioned were not humongous but they were excellent tasting and decent enough in terms of size. The crab balls, the curry shrimp and the Caribbean cabbage were all excellent. They were one of the few food trucks that have come to the complex that nailed the sides (not all, but the cabbage).
