Great food and great service ! We enjoyed it so much that we lost track of time! I wish that we lived closer to this fine place!

Definitely not worth the hype it was given. Dated decor and local servers who are not great at table etiquette. C'mon, give the place a facelift, ancient Christmas trees with twinkling lights and the cherubs blowing horns.!!??? No wall decor and tired, votive candles with butterflies and fake daisies. Who puts their stack of paper tablecloths and fresh table settings, and an old lined garbage can up by the lovely bar?? Honestly, all it would take would be a few touches to "class up" the place. The beautiful vintage bar could stand alone by itself and a photo worth taking! OK, now the food. He had the Louisiana seafood plate which had a nice presentation but was a little bit like a dull pot pie. I had the Cornish game hen on top of a Caesar salad. It was ok...just ok! The hen was not seasoned very well, but the presentation was nice. All in all, three out of five. read more

Excellent food! My mom and I were passing though Beatrice, and stopped here for a good dinner. The service was exceptional and the food was really good. If I ever come back through here, I will be sure to stop here again! read more

Average at best, appetizer came out burnt, entrée was lacking seasoning. Not much options in this town so it has that going for it. The plus was the waitress was friendly and attentive. read more

The black Crowes, an interesting place in Beatrice Nebraska more of an upscale restaurant with a separate bar to sit out, having been in both bar and booth for different times different meals I would definitely recommend the bar The brie appetizer is only half a wheel of brie with jam on the top. Serve with 6 to 8 Cristini's delicious, but not very much of it especially if you would expect the entire Brie slice. The cocktails here are the thing to rave about some of the most interesting and delicious cocktails ever The next time I went, we sat in a booth for a special event meal which nobody seem to care about was our special event. You're serve the wrong entrées then, by the time we got our entrées, they were cool, it best kind of glue it like consistency, not very appetizing . No apologies from the wet stuff whatsoever. read more

Decided to give it a try again after being underwhelmed after our initial experience in hopes that we experienced an off night. Nope. I ordered the beef tips special--the sauce and mushrooms were good, but the meat was leftover reheated steak, and the pasta was mushy--yuck! Completely ruined the dish. If I leftovers I'd stay home and eat. $23 for the dish+$5 for the salad. My husband ordered the top sirloin. It came with mashed potatoes and carrots that were insanely sweet. The steak came out so tough he couldn't chew it. They made him a new one, and that one was only little bit better, and he left half of it.-- "Market Price" for the dish which was $25! I guess the market price in Beatrice is far more than it is in any other Nebraska town. Our dining companion ordered the duck which came with the same sides as the steak. The duck was really good. It was also "Market price"--$32!! The service was very good, which earned them an additional star. read more

We were on a road trip and friends recommended this place. So glad they did. The wait staff were attentive and friendly, gave great recommendations for wine, and the food was spectacular. We had the sirloin with goat cheese and spicy peanut oil and the ribeye with blue cheese and walnuts. All were perfect; so much so that I stopped the cook to tell him how good it was and thank him. We will definitely return! read more

Service was great! Food was mediocre and overpriced. Restaurant looked dated. We won't be going back .

Overall experience was average with some less than average service. Good quality was also just average. We were a party of 4 and prices were typical for two prime ribs, a filet, and a ribeye. Arrived at 715 pm and were seated quickly. Water was provided upon seating and drink orders were taken quickly. Our server proved the daily specials and the we didn't see him again for over 30 minutes. Finally ordered our meal and appetizers close to 8pm. Drinks were refilled twice before food arrived 10 minutes before closing at 9pm. Only three meals were delivered and they were ok; the ribeye was heavily charred and very thin for the over $30 price. It was cooked properly but the char made it very tough. The ribeyes were ok as well but also smaller than what you get at other similar prices regional restaurants None of the food was hot off the grill and had been sitting for at least 5-10 minutes before being brought out.. The fourth meal was delivered after another 15 minutes after being told it had to be recooked after being dropped. It was very hot and obviously fresh off the grill. It was a filet which should be able to be cut with minimal effort. It was also heavily charred and tough to cut with blackened bacon wrapping. It was cooked in the middle as ordered. Sides could use use more seasoning as all st the table had to add salt to the mashed potatoes and meat. Service from server was slow but manager/owner was attentive and did comp a free dessert due to the wait on the fourth meal. It was delivered to the table to go as requested since at this point it was after 930 and we had been there for over 2 hours. Long story short, atmosphere is good and prices are comparable to other similar type places but service is slow. read more

Another surprisingly awesome place in an otherwise unspectacular Nebraska town. The food was delicious, the prices were good, the ambiance was nice and the staff were a riot. I had the lamb and beef gyro with a caesar salad. Both were great, although the gyro did taste a bit different. Not odd, just different than most other gyros I've had. But it was still delicious and filling, and only cost like $7.50. I had a Golden Ale from Colorado, which was pretty refreshing. They've got a few "local" beers from Lincoln, and then your average beers and liquors. The building is this old place that clearly had a lot of history to it. They have those green copper ceiling tiles I've seen a lot in other places in Nebraska. read more

I've been in Beatrice for a couple months and I can confidently say that The Black Crow is the best restaurant in town. Luckily they've handled the pandemic well enough to stay in business. They're located in downtown Beatrice with plenty of nearby parking. The atmosphere is small-town upscale with a great patio. The service is very attentive and quick. The drinks are really good and always mixed strong (jackpot!!!). The food is great and also looks delicious. Small town restaurants usually fail at presentation but not Black Crow. So far I think the Cornish Game Hen is my favorite dish. It tastes like Thanksgiving! You can also order take out which has been my preference during the pandemic. Especially because many Nebraskans think wearing a mask is a plot to destroy us all. Support our local restaurants during this hard time! Overall Black Crow is a home run for Beatrice and could hang with the big dogs in Omaha. read more

I was impressed to find this dining option in such a tiny town. The decor was tasteful, kind of interesting with the dead crows, but nice. Low lighting, could even be considered a little intimate. I loved that the tablecloth was a big piece of paper to color on. For some people, that might not be as appealing. Before we understood it, we looked at each other like uhh where's the nice white tablecloth. This is until we discovered the crayon basket. Life changing. Maybe we came on a bad day or at a bad time because I heard this was a great place. I ordered the salad nicoise, my friend had the stir fry special. When our bread basket came, it was pretty dry. My friend was not happy with her meal. She said the broccoli was raw and the "stir fry" sauce was basically brown gravy. I did enjoy my salad- smoked salmon, olives, eggs, potatoes, onions, broccoli and dressing- but how hard is that to mess up? I think the menu options are pretty impressive for the community and if I would try this place again. read more

Waitress was wonderful and patient with my kiddos and the food was delicious. Atmosphere was also pleasant .

Let me add my praise to this outstanding restaurant. No lie, it's been awhile since I've been here, so...take this review with a grain of salt. I grew up in Beatrice, and the Black Crow has been around...well, not for as long as I can remember, but for quite awhile. I've had dinner there a handful of times over the years, and while I can't precisely remember the specifics of my meals, my opinion of the restaurant has changed drastically over the years. When I was younger (and a very picky eater), I remember thinking that it was murderous trying to find anything on the menu that I liked; when I was older, however (and had expanded my palette substantially), I remember thinking that I'd never be able to choose something from the menu because it all looked so amazing...and it was. This restaurant is not for the picky eater, to be sure. The last time I was there I ordered the quail, which was divinely prepared by Ray Arter, the chef, although I can't recall anything more specific about the meal other than that I enjoyed it immensely (I have no lasting memories of the service, either, so I can't comment on that aspect). However, the memories of the Black Crow that HAVE survived the years (and the primary reason that I am writing this review, despite my horrid memory) are of Ray's truffles. His deletcable, heavenly, perfection in-and-of-themselves truffles. I have no idea if he still makes them (and even when I was growing up, they were a special-order thing and not widely-known or available), but if I were ever to suffer death by chocolate, these would undoubtedly be the murder weapon. Forget the Godiva-esque truffles that I'm sure you're picturing in your mind - these things were veritable chocolate boulders in comparison, and were oh-so-delicious in the way that only something so utterly and completely diet-ruining can be. What has become of Ray's truffles? Does he make them anymore? I have no idea...I hope so. However, rest assured that the excellence of these truffles extends to the cuisine at the Black Crow as well. And while this restaurant might not necessarily stand out in a city any larger than Lincoln, it isn't located there, it's located in a small, mid-western town, and in such a setting, it can't help but shine - and with good reason. read more

Had the special pork shank, with a Caesar side salad, and the bread pudding for dessert! Everything I had was fabulous.

So this place was good, but not great. A very solid option I'm Beatrice and I'm happy I came. The place was cute, it was Italian night and had plenty of options. The server was friendly and seated us in a great spot. I was impressed with the wine selection and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Now I know what you're thinking, "Ashleigh this all sounds positive, where's the 'not great' part?" Well, the food, while there were good options, was on the salty side. Lots of breading on the oyster Rockefeller, salty tomato cream sauce, salty soup. Good, but as I'm not used to that much salt, it was hard to finish my food. Final call-out, I LOVED the twinkle lights above the bar! Perfect lighting. read more

An excellent place to eat: tasty, well prepared and overall fantastic food, with good service - attentive but not overbearing. We had a very friendly writer. What I really liked was that we were allowed time enough between courses - something that is very rare in even the best restaurants hereabouts. What they should make public, though, is that they serve ribeyes on Fridays and Saturdays only. One should know that before the waiter tells you. We came here on the recommendation of a local woman and were absolutely happy with our choice. read more

This is a gourmet restaurant that is comparable t any I have eaten in across the country. It would be s hit in New York or Los Angeles or Chicago. There is s menu with a multitude of choices from fresh seafood, beef, pork, duck, and many others. The deserts are prepared by a master pastry chef and the Creme Brûlée's the best I have had anywhere. Lighter fare is available including freshly made soup, salads, individual pizza, fish tacos and specials . This is a restaurant where you can even request special variations to meet your tastes. read more

Yeah.... really good stuff, Maynard. The service was super friendly. I usually pretend that I'm surprised how fast service is at most restaurants. This place, it's genuine surprise how quick you get your food (at lunch service). What's even more surprising is how good the food, is even when it comes out quick. I had the French dip, 'cause you don't find those in restaurants much anymore. Beef was cooked perfectly. Just the right amount of ingredients, the bread, I'm pretty sure, is made in-house. The guest with me had Baked Pasta, tried that, too. The house marinara is......... in.... flippin'...... credible. No room for desert today, but hard to pass up, as they sounded pretty damned tasty. Seriously, though. Go here. It's friggin' awesome. read more

Great ambience! We ordered he salmon and it was delicious. The seasoned olive oil (with the fresh bread) was wonderful!!

Nice sit down in Beatrice. Lunch is more casual but dinner is more sophisticated. They have great pizzas!

Awesome food and great prices! I highly recommend the shrimp walnut pesto pasta! Out of this world!!

Highly recommend for lunch, which is what we had as we passed through. Split a 12" mushroom, smoked mozzarella pizza. It was the perfect amount and quite delicious. Would definitely order it again. Several other menu items, one that intrigues me was the deconstructed taco salad. Next time? read more

Recently, I found myself helping a friend out on a photo shoot near Beatrice, Nebraska. The models were cows, tractors, golf greens, and fields of beans and corn. Not the most glamorous shoot and not the most glamorous area. I had never been to Beatrice before and found it to be charming and nice - a larger small town. We saw current political graffiti painted on a downtown roof that reminded me of the cold war era 80's in the larger cities. There was a small permanent popcorn stand on one of the sidewalks that someone could probably make some money with if installed in Benson or The Old Market. When we pulled into town for lunch we saw a few places that looked like standard bar and grill fare and then were pulled in by a nice hanging sign that said The Black Crow. We walked in and were surprised by the long room filled with dark oak booths and a few larger tables at the back. Every seat was filled and we were offered a seat at the massive oak bar while we waited. Our wait was very short, after which we were put in a booth that had a sheet of paper over the table, complete with nice china and silverware. It was all pretty fancy for lunch in a small town. Hell, it was pretty fancy for lunch in Omaha. Thankfully the lunch prices did not reflect our surroundings. We had menus brought to us and ordered sodas. The lunch menu was vast and had wraps, sandwiches, pizzas and entrées listed. Our friendly waitress read off the list of specials for the day, along with their ingredients, like a pro. It seems that they have different and unique wraps, quiches and stromboli daily. I went with a pepperoni and salami stromboli and my friend went with a Philly cheese steak. I also ordered their mushroom soup. A bowl of hot bread was brought out along with a carafe of olive oil to dip the bread in. My mushroom soup soon followed and the first spoonful found me tasting what was possibly the best mushroom soup I have ever had. I had my friend try it and he immediately ordered a bowl for himself. It was a dark and rich broth that kept its appeal until the very end. I dipped my bread in both the soup and olive oil separately. Our entrées came and my friend's Philly was large, full of beef and loaded with cheese. He said it was very good, but would have been better with fresh mushrooms. My stromboli was loaded with melted mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and salami, and the bread that surrounded it was light, flaky and buttery. It was excellent. The Black Crow has everything going for it, and with a full bar and craft beer selection, I would even pull up here for just a couple of drinks in the evening. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the food was reasonably priced and very good. It's one of those rare places that I wouldn't hesitate driving a couple of hours (round trip) for a meal, and I will as their dinner menu looks even better. read more

Good service, good salad, decent drink prices. Unfortunately that's where it ended. I had the prime rib. Way over cooked. Dry. Tough. A lot of fat. I know prime is not fat free. But a so called 10 oz. cut was a third fat for $21. My wife had a shrimp pasta number that she wasn't happy with and our son had sirloin that looked properly cooked but he said was kind of tough too. This was our first time here. I wanted to like it. Nice decor. The booth we were in was cramped and we tended to pull the table cloth with us when exiting. Still the best prime rib is in Waco, Ne at Hunters Lounge. read more

The Black Crow - Family Reunion at the Black Crow - American Near Me - Beatrice, Nebraska

In most cases, one would consider Nebraska to be something of a culinary wasteland. Luckily, The Black Crow is a flavor oasis, welcoming to travelers with weary tastebuds such as myself. Here's what I had: Old Fashioned Cocktail: I'm always surprised when I order one of these in the Midwest and the bartender gives me a blank stare. Luckily that didn't happen here, they not only knew what it was (or googled it unobtrusively) they also knew how to make a good one. Slightly sweet with a hairy chest. Oysters Rockefeller: Amazing! The oysters were buttery and sweet, baked underneath a blanket of spinach, cheese, and breadcrumbs. I could have eaten about 6 of these. Filet Mignon: was cooked perfectly to medium rare and wrapped up in a piece of bacon, just the way I like it. It comes in 6oz and 8oz, but 8oz is only a dollar more, so go for it! It came with some delicious roasted veggies and a hearty helping of garlic mash. Creme Brulee: a rare treat in the Midwest, and presented here in the traditional style. Delicious, of course! We heard some customers at the next table over ask for the dessert list and then remark "Oh, I don't like creme brulee." Oh really? Then you must not like AMERICA. The parental units also greatly enjoyed their dinners, though they expressed some disappointment because the restaurant was out of the mushroom raviolis, which apparently they have been out of for quite some time. I saw other tantalizing things on the menu, such as scallops with puttanesca sauce, but due to the small capacity of my stomach parts, that will have to wait for next time. All in all, quite a delightful experience. I could easily see this very same restaurant transplanted to my home city of San Francisco with a line of hipsters out the door. A small town restaurant with big city flavors! read more

Passed through Beatrice during my road trip and after reading the reviews I decided to stop in. Great ambiance and wonderful staff. Food: A basket of warm bread was brought out with herbed olive oil. It was good. Mark ordered the Fresh Salmon and I ordered the Louisiana Seafood Bake. Both came with the house salad. I requested the house vinaigrette and he requested his with the Dorothy lunch dressing. Both salads were fresh and both dressings tasted great. Fresh Salmon: Came on a bed of mashed potatoes and with asparagus. I tried some and it was delicious! The salmon was was cooked to perfection and fell easily apart as I cut it. It was light, juicy, and the maple glaze added a touch of sweetness to die for. The mashed potatoes and salmon married together beautifully. Louisiana Seafood Bake: My absolute favorite. It came in a baked dish of scallops, shrimp, peppers, tomatoes, and onions under a puffed pastry. I don't know what was in the sauce but I wanted to lick my plate clean. The scallops and shrimp melted in my mouth. It really was heaven in my mouth! And the pastry was baked how I like it- crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The flavors just marinated perfectly together. The dish looked small but it definitely filled me up, and after driving a few hours on the road I definitely worked up a big appetite. Dessert: I ordered the cheesecake. It was creamy and light. The caramel sauce was rich in flavor. A perfect end to a perfect meal! Our waiter: The waiter described the daily specials and their ingredients like the back of his hand. He was attentive and definitely made our already great experience a more enjoyable one! I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back! read more

The Black Crow provides a very good dining experience in Beatrice, especially when you consider the next step down on the dining ladder is probably Godfather's Pizza Buffet. My wife and I dined there last Saturday night. The restaurant was delightfully decorated for the Holidays and the ding room was nearly filled with patrons. I wonder if this was the same restaurant that was reviewed by Jessica and Robyn. Our comfy booth had a crisp white tablecloth (no crayons in sight) and service was prompt and friendly. They have an extensive wine list with nearly all white available by the glass. Our server pointed out popular items on the menu and gave thorough description of the specials for the night, even explaining that a chicken puttanesca pasta dish would have a slight brine taste due to the green olives and capers. After ordering a basket of warm bread and a cruet of herbed olive oil was brought to the table - again making me wonder if Robyn ate in the same restaurant. To be brief, the pasta was excellent, the wine was good as well. Okay, I might not drive from Omaha just to eat here, but I would drive from Lincoln. read more
