On normal circumstances (Pre-pandemic) I have not had any issues with this company! And our tax guy Mike will be the only reason we keep coming back. So if you want taxes done correctly if go here but with a warning. The front desk ladies were very unprofessional and did not care about the pandemic or their customers health. We saw 3 ladies with no masks. One mask hanging in front that had a saying: "this mask is as useless as Gavin Newsom." I understand ppl may not believe in this pandemic but you are working for a company that sees many ppl with different views and this is the biggest disrespect and unprofessional behavior. One lady was even so outta breath that she kept huffing loudly... Both my husband and I both felt exposed and uncomfortable. We ended up waiting for the tax person outside. My relatively simple 2018 1040 tax return turned into a near nightmare when Susie Q e-filed with an incorrect social security number. And never told me - she just sent in another one after it was 'rejected'. I found out when I got a letter from the IRS saying I had not paid my taxes. Her error also triggered another letter for a non-insured penalty. (Both based on the s.s. number she had put on my return). I provided all the proof and documentation to this staff person and the matter has finally resolved. However, to date, I have only received one of the 1040X filings from her. She has said she put the second one in the mail but I never got it. My phone calls and emails requesting she send a copy to me go unanswered. This is the worst experience I have ever had with an agency/person. There was also a careless regard for ones personal information - the receptionist just tossing documentation papers into a tray by the front desk - I've been there when no one is even in the reception area. So much for being concerned about their customers personal information. Find another provider - this should not have happened and should have been handled more professionally - oh, and never was there anything resembling an apology. read more

I first went to the BIT Company in 2003 after a friend recommended Barry very highly. I had previously always done my own taxes, but this was a particularly complicated tax year. I had retired from the military, changed my residency to California, and sold a rental property. I completed my taxes using a popular tax software program and I figured I owed about $2000 between state and federal taxes. However, as I said, a friend convinced my to go see Barry and see if he could do better. After booking my appointment, I made two incorrect assumptions; firstly I thought that a thirty minute time slot would only allow me enough time to meet the accountant and drop off my tax forms just to then wait for a call back when the taxes were done, secondly, I thought all CPAs were about as engaging as a sack of flour. I met Barry and he went right to work on my taxes, fifteen minutes into the process he stated that it looked like I would get $800 back from the IRS, but still owed the state $1100. I thought "great, that is a lot better than owing $2000." But Barry wasn't satisfied. He asked some more questions, used a different form and voila, I got $1000 back between the state and federal returns. To say I was impressed is a drastic understatement. As far as being engaging, Barry is the most peronable and friendly person I know. He gets to know you as a person, and you always feel like you are visiting a friend more than meeting with your CPA. And if you have never worked with someone who truly loves what they do, then you are in for a treat. The enthusiasm and energy that Barry has toward preparin your return is a marvel to watch. I can honestly say that I now look forward to having my taxes done. I do recommend that you call early January, as Barry books up fast. read more

Barry is the bomb! We've been going to him for a few years now for our joint & small business (my husband's LLC) taxes and he works to get you as much on your return as possible. When our return was significantly less than last year's he asked more pertinent questions about my scope of work with my previous employer & by doing so helped bump our return by another $600-$700 between federal and state. I will not consider going to any other CPA for our taxes in the future...he fights for the best interest of his clients and has our complete trust. And although he isn't required to do anything more than the scope of his work he is efficient with your time, gets to know you as a person, and shares his own personal life with you. I just started with Barry Fefferman at B.I.T. Co. regarding my taxes. I was referred to him by a friend, who spoke really highly of him. Several things impressed me about Barry: he was clearly quite knowledgeable and competent in his industry. When I commented on how fast he was typing on the forms for my return, he mentioned "he had created this software, and so knew it so well". It tells him exactly what forms he needs to file for any given client based on certain information. That told me how brilliant he is at filing your return accurately as well as skilled at time management ( a very important aspect of working with an accountant at tax time!). The second thing that impressed me about Barry was how much he wanted to make sure he provided the best service for me and wanted to do all he could that was in my best interests, as this tax return was a bit tricky. Barry is "as good as it gets" but warrants more than 5 stars. My husband and I have only done 2 tax years with him thus far, but he has more than earned our business. We have a combo of a self-employed and "traditional" employment return and he is on top of it all. In and out of there in 30 minutes. He even realized our former preparer (who was not an accountant- our fault) had filed our taxes the previous year incorrectly. Barry recently took care of the amendment for us and it will result in a refund. If he wasn't so thorough the first time he met with us, we would have never known of this gross error.
