There are things you find at Babies R' Us and there are things you don't. So, for specialty items, this shop will do if you don't want to travel all the way to Manhattan. It carries brand names of maternity wear like Japanese Weekend, Glamour Mom, etc. and other items. I went here because this was the closest of its kind in the area where my cousin lives. I needed nursing bras. The owner, who is a lactation consultant, personally fits you for your size. I find that this is important because it's not right to just guess your nursing bra size. Anyway, there were a lot of cute stuff in the store both for moms and for children. At the time (Nov 2007), they were expanding their store to accommodate an area for different programs for moms. If you're a mom in the area seeking support groups for different issues, maybe you can go and check it out. Regarding SERVICE, there was a young employee (from Upstate NY) who was really nice and friendly. She introduced us to the Phil&Ted stroller and meticulously demonstrated how it works. If I was ready to buy one at that time, I would because she totally sold it! Sad to say, we were a bit turned off by the owner. She didn't seem to be too patient with kids. Sure, there was a play corner dedicated for kids of customers. But, my 2 yr. old daughter, who was so into dresses, started browsing some clothes for herself, too. She wasn't destroying them or anything but the owner approached us and in her words, told us to take the items from our daughter because they could get dirty. For someone who runs a motherhood store, she doesn't seem to be very good with kids. Also, we would be discerning with some of the professional info she gives out. We overheard her explain to a male customer that hospitals push moms to feed their babies formula. From my experience, that wasn't true. And my husband, who is a pediatrician, was also very disturbed by her statement. read more

I was initially very excited on finding this beautiful boutique to be able to buy Bella Materna nursing bras, but right after I made my first purchase I realized that I had been outrageously overcharged for a "free size" bra that apparently I was paying more than double for because of the personalized "fitting" that I received! Store policy is final sale for all bras but when I brought the ridiculous price differential to their notice the following day, the owner was nice enough to issue me a store credit of the difference. After that I bought another nursing bra and used a coupon to get one free with that purchase. Even though I paid in full, I only got one since they didn't have another identical one in stock and it had to be ordered. At that point I got fitted again for a sleep bra and just didn't happen to like the very limited varieties that they had me try on, so I didn't buy any. Then randomly today out of the blue on a weekend (a day after) I receive a nasty phone call from the store owner Shari threatening that if I did not purchase a sleep bra from her store, she would not honor the coupon for the free nursing bra!!!!!! I don't even understand why she would mandate that when I had spent over a $150 dollars at her store already. I was totally appalled at how rude and hostile Shari was over the phone. I have shopped at other upscale bra salons in NYC and nowhere else except here have I encountered such extreme pressure to make a purchase! Wish I could give the business zero stars!!!!! read more

Ugh.... The owner thinks she knows everything about everything to do with babies. She questioned me about cord blood banking, which is NONE of her business. I told her we had numerous discussions with our high risk OB who swayed us against it. My high risk OB trained at NY Presbyterian and Mt. Sinai and is director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at the best hospital in the state for prenatal care. This boutique owner thinks she's smarter. She told me I need to do more research. Also, she tried to encourage me to come to her classes, and I told her it was too far from my home in Livingston. She laughed in my face saying she has people from all over the country coming to her classes. I wanted to tell her to get out of my face. Ugh....never again. Stay away! She thinks she is god's gift to pregnant women and babies. She's not! read more

We love the Birth Boutique!!!! We are expecting our first baby and just finished taking all of Shari's classes. They were amazing, we feel so much more calm and prepared about being new parents. Shari, Joe and their staff are all incredible! They are all so knowledgeable and we have learned so much from them in the short time that we have known them. The store is great, they only carry products that they themselves would use on their own children. As an expectant parent it is very overwhelming to go into a big box retailer with 1,000's of choices. We found it extremely helpful that they only carry the best of the best and there isn't an item in the store that the staff isn't knowledgeable on. All of the women are Mom's themselves and were once customers of the store. It's great to talk to people who know what you need and what you are going through. I am recommending all of my pregnant friends to come to the store and take all of the classes. They are a great resource for new parents and the knowledge that they have shared with us and that we have gained from them has been invaluable! read more

Good selection but very poor customer service. The prices here are high, but that would not be a problem except for the customer service. The owner does not alow refunds (for new/unused gift items) and makes it REALLY painful to do exchanges. Baaad attitude. Who needs it. There are other stores understand that service does not mean the customer is there to serve the store owner. You need us. We don't need you. There's competition! read more

The owner, Cheri, of birth boutique is very passionate about both her business and the art of breast feeding. I took her bf class and can say that her passion for it is contagious. She is a great saleswoman. She sold me on the benefits of breast feeding (and a few good bras too.) During the class she really drills you on how much your child will benefit from it. To the point where you saying to yourself "okay, I get it!" But I'm so glad I payed attention because that knowledge is what kept me committed when my baby needed to feed in the middle of the night for the third time. There are some personal opinions that she holds that you can take or leave, but overall I'd say she's helped many women become committed to breast feeding and in turn helped many healthy thriving babies! read more

What a horrible experience. Beware of Pushy Sales Girl & DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR CC to them. Charged my card for services which did not take place & they did not confirm. I was shocked when I received my statement. When called to discuss was greated by a nasty argumentative sales person and the owner did not even have the decency to call me back. Promised me a refund after much fighting which I never received from them so was forced to put in a dispute on my end. read more

Dont waste your money!!!! I have been using the birth boutique for many years and have spent a lot of money there. For example, I have bought my Phil and Teds from there and both of my son's christening outfits from there. All of a sudden, they now only have "by appointment only" hours AND THEY CHARGE you, the customer for the appointment!!!! Before they give you the appointment, they ask for a credit card for $25! I guess they dont want to pay a sales rep and would rather unload the charge on their loyal customers. They are over priced to begin with and now WE are paying their salespersons salary!!! Even after I explained that I was a loyal customer to them, they would not waive the $25 fee. All I wanted to do was see their selection of christening gowns for my newborn daugther, they were rude on the phone. Needless to say, I have found a great boutique, Sabrina's in Summit that has a GORGEOUS selection of Christening gowns, one of which I did buy.
