Outrageously rude service. We waited....for 20 minutes....and the coffees never came. The worst experience Ive ever had in my life, and trust me, Ive frequented a few cafes. To make matters worse, I went there really hoping it would be my new neighborhood hangout as I live just a minute away. I ordered the easiest thing in the world, a cappuccino and a croissant. I even said I could just take the croissant on a dish but the red-faced man behind the counter insisted it was "coming." Its a small cafe, not very clean, and was pretty dead when I arrived with my boyfriend on a weekend afternoon. After a twenty minute wait, I went to the counter to ask politely why, and the man, still visibly red-faced, sweating and hungover (or perhaps high?) became aggressive and defensively told me they were busy (They were not) and that he had only one worker to help him today instead of two:"Were struggling here!!" Yes, he actually said that. I never saw two people work more slowly, clumsily, and inefficiently that were not mentally handicapped. Incredulously, I watched him continue to ignore us and actually serve other people sandwiches and salads that came in after us. Then he finally came and set a miserably cold discolored cup of coffee in front of me with NO froth. I was shocked. I actually have worked myself as a barista before, and I would never serve a customer such an obviously sub-standard cup of joe after I kept them waiting so long. Its just not professional. To make matters worse, he actually knew it was pretty bad and said he could make me another cup AS he set it down in front of me. He never should have served it in the first place but just made me a fresh batch instead of serving old coffee that had been sitting for obviously quite some time. When I inquired about the croissant he screamed, "Oh no!!" and actually put his hands to his cheeks in a Home Alone face. "I burnt it!" Apparently he had forgotten all about it under the panini machine. I was starving at this point but there were no more pastries left and I could not be bothered to wait and see what kind of coffee would be presented next so I told him we were leaving. He started yelling and arguing with us in front of the other shocked customers instead of apologizing. It turned out that he was also the owner, a sweaty hippy from New Zealand with zero business sense or hospitality. He was too stupid or drunk or both to understand that even if I had been the biggest bitch in the world, the customer is always right and he should have at the least apologized and made me a timely decent cup of coffee. If he couldnt make one, he should have employed someone who could. It is avery small business, not easy to find, dependent on a loyal local client base and he already lost a potentially regular customer as well as alienated new ones. He created an upsetting, ugly negative atmosphere in his own cafe, with no pride in his product, serving substandard coffee at a higher than average cost, and it is unlikely the other customers will come back after witnessing this upsetting incident. My boyfriend, who is bullied easily, paid him for the coffee he never drank. We left embarrassed and angry. Needless to add, we will never return. read more
