During the lavender season, the tickets are a bit pricey alongside parking. The farm itself has numerous activities to do, picturesque moments, and different foods to try. My fiancé and I have attended the lavender festival three times already, so we knew what to expect. We avoided the foods we didn't enjoy last time, and tried new items. We ordered their carne asada tacos, croissant beignets, their peach sangria, and more. If you're planning to come here, I'd suggest eating beforehand, because the food is not good. Their tacos are dry; the meat and the tortilla feel like separate entities. Their croissant beignets on the other hand were absolutely phenomenal. It's exactly what you'd expect and it was amazing! Their drinks are good here, too. I had their lavender margarita which was absolutely perfect. Their peach sangria can be better. They sold bunches of lavender in their gift stores and you had opportunities to take photos with their lavender in the fields. It was a unique experience overall away from your usual city life. I don't think I'll come back again. I've been three times enough, and it's generally the same. I'd recommend trying it once to see what it's like, and that's all.

An endless supply of alcohol for adults, non-stop music, and some games outside for the little ones as well. They have a few vendors outside if you feel like perusing. I personally find that for me I can hang out at Oktoberfest for a few hours before I start to get a bit bored. I always stay long enough to watch the stein holding competition, a few drinks and a few rounds of snacks. My favorite part of the entire affair every year is that it's pretty decently priced. For small parties, you don't necessarily need to pay for preferred seating, especially if you like to walk around. The free take home shuttle is also such a god-send if you're staying nearby. Will definitely come back again! Maybe not yearly but for sure every once and again :)

The band Lady Hosen was phenomenal. Every employee was super fun & engaging! Had the grilled bratwurst with the sauerkraut, warm, German potato salad, and it was scrumptious. Shared a large pretzel as well! Fabulous fabulous time! We got there at one right when it started and left about 6:00. We heard it gets really crazy later in the day so we opted for the earlier time. Highly recommend!

I fear that there's now a dark cloud holding fast over the faire, slowly leeching the last bits of joy that it used to bring. It's definitely seen it's share of ups and downs, but after visiting this last weekend, I fear that it's on the road to non-recovery. Tickets were $18 at the gate, and then there was some type of additional charge which brought two adult ticket prices up to $39 total. We didn't think anything of it until a friend mentioned it. Bit odd. We wandered into the faire, and that first walkway path in felt super claustrophobic. We stopped at a few vendors, nothing had sparked our interest to purchase. We continued on and noticed the Fairy area, which was super cool looking and definitely an improvement from their small beginnings. It's set up where the Queen/Nobles area used to be. Continuing on, we saw the single food vendor in the faire (Boar's Feast). Next to it were two other booths for food, however, despite having the vendor name on them, they were empty and never opened that day. It was a bit disappointing to see that, but honestly, if they bailed for the day, I don't blame them. There was never usually less than 10 people in the single food line at any given time. The ale stand areas offered a bit of shade and rest and a modest selection of beer. Be careful of where you sit, though, as a lot of the benches need sanding and had splinters. I think my fav ale stand was down by the joust, which had a wooden fence up around it and ample shade. I think it might have been the smoking area, as well. Scattered throughout the area were the vendors. Some of them were regulars to the faire scene, but a lot of them must have been local. I found some cool essential oil blends at Gear Oils, I purchased a few earrings from a friend's booth, and I even bought a new clay(?) tankard from an enthusiastic gent since we forgot our travelling tankards at home. Other than that, it was generally slim pickings for shopping. Entertainment was sporadic, we didn't really stop to watch any of the shows. But! there was the joust. Holy heck, that's a joust that I won't very soon forget. They brought in Wastelanders in a pickup truck to the joust tournament against the horseback riders. Side note, I'm fairly certain that the Wasteland guys were part of the Imperial Knights Jousting team, but it was a wildly unnecessary change, despite it being "Steampunk" weekend. While I was in the privy, I heard other patrons talking so much smack about that addition. I don't think it went over as well as management might have hoped. Nothing against the Wasteland peoples, it's a cool thing to be into and I have a lot of friends that go to it, I just felt like it wasn't quite appropriate at the time. Overall, if you walk through the faire, it might take you about an hour, at the most. If you're travelling from the flatland up to mountain up to the faire, it might not be worth the trip anymore. Also, on another side note, avoid driving the front of the mountain to Big Bear on first weekend of August. It's the Tour de Big Bear bicycling event, and it's an incredibly slow and dangerous drive up the mountain since the bikers are in the road and traveling in packs. We watched people drive on the other side of the road at breakneck speeds to pass big groups of bikers, and at the same time bikers are whizzing down the mountain in the other lane.

I did some Google research and found out that it is the first Saturday in November. So we set a reminder and over those months we talked about it every time we'd drive by Newberry Springs. Welp... November was almost here and we decided to go camping up near Calico that weekend and then stop in at the Festival to see what it's all about.... and we were not disappointed, not one bit! Way better than we assumed it would be. Vendors selling all sorts of unique items, pistachios for sale, kickball tournament, bouncy houses, petting zoo, "old timey shootout" reenactment, smoothies, live music, pistachio brittle, pistachio rocca, flavored pistachios, seasoned pistachios, and one of the best Indian Frybreads we've ever had! We didn't come hungry or we would have had the Indian Frybread Taco!! Holy cow, they are ginormous and look amazing! We settled for just a frybread and added honey and powdered sugar. It was deeeeeeeeeeeeelicious!!! Hot out of the fryer too! We chatted with some locals while eating and also with some of the vendors. It was a feel-good event for us and we'd definitely come back! It's only the one day a year and this year it was from 9am - 4pm (maybe it always is?) so make sure you time it right! No cost to get in, but bring your wallet, you'll want to purchase something, I guarantee it! Where's Newberry Springs, you ask? Well, it is just off I-40 at Newberry Road, just south of the National Trails Highway (Historical Route 66). Little town, big heart! Very very glad that we decided to check it out, can't wait to share it with friends too! THANK YOU!!!
