This is fun old school kind of place, that definitely has it's own following and charm. We stopped in while traveling through North Carolina on a hot summer day. I originally discovered the Berry Patch on Social and saved it on maps, knowing that at some point we'd make it! Well that day was today! When we pulled up the parking lot was quite full and the lines were long, but they moved relatively quickly, which we were thankful for. They have a lot of flavors to choose from, including options with a slice of pie or cobbler that are sweet and honestly delicious. If you're into ice cream this a place definitely worth adding to your bucket list, as you try multiple flavors on each visit and never have the same one twice. Seating is somewhat limited on a busy day, but they do have numerous chairs and a outdoor picnic area. It was fun to see adults and kids alike both enjoying a wide variety of flavors. They of course have several portion sizes available ranging from kids cups to a quart size cups and some that appear even larger if you're looking to indulge! Overall, if you're traveling off the beaten path and need a break, the Berry Patch is a great stop, especially when it's hot to grab a delicious ice cream from a super unique giant berry building! PS: This review is only for the Ice-cream place and not the shop selling other items and produce. We were looking for a sweet treat on our way back to Atlanta and we were delighted seeing the big board of Berry patch so we took the exit and reach this big place. Here is the summary of my experience there: 1) Ambiance 4/5: Not the most attractive place since it is an extension of the product shop but it does the job. You can see the flavors- some of them unique too. 2) Service 4/5 - Not the best since they messed up my order a couple times but in the end it was worth it. 3) Food 4/5: I tried the orange pineapple and pistachio icea cream which I loved. The sweetness was subtle and they were large scoops. I overate them but loved the fresh flavor. My wife tried chocolate almond and didnt love it 4) Value for Money 5/5: It was delicious and worth the price. The Berry Patch was recommended to me so I decided to check it out and see the large strawberry. It was a busy place and slightly challenging to find a parking spot. Besides selling ice cream they have a produce shop. I spotted the Atkinson Milling products here as well. They seem to be everywhere in the state. Those items looked good but I just went with the ice cream. The line was long so I figured that was a good sign. The service was friendly and quick. I went with two scoops of the Reeses as one scoop was the kids size and wasn't sure if I could order that. The price was about $5 so not bad. What I was given was more like 8 scoops. A cup was filled with more on top of that. The problem is that this ice cream melts so fast that it drips all over the place. I gave up after a few minutes and threw it in the trash and others were doing that too. The ice cream flavor was ok but nothing special. I'd rather have less of a better quality product. read more

Cute little touristy place. My husband and I were just out for a drive and come upon The Berry Patch. Evidently, this is a stop for most people headed to the beach. There's an area for pets, ice cream and milkshakes. Fresh fruits and veggies can be purchased along with souvenirs and keepsakes. My husband stated that the port-a-potties were really clean. Play area for the kiddos. No surprise you order your ice cream at the big strawberry. There were a lot of young adults working who were friendly and helpful. This was around 3 o'clock on a Thursday during Holy Week. They had a steady crowd coming in and out. I ordered a kids scoop of butter pecan on a sugar cone and my husband had a lemonade. After we ordered, you wait for your order to be called out which can be kind of confusing if you have duplicate orders. This happened to us but no worries I received my ice cream. Very buttery and creamy. For a kids cone it was big! We sat there and enjoyed watching people come and go, and children playing as I ate my ice cream. This is a very cool place to stop. Ice cream, local vegetables and fruits, canned items (pickles, etc.), nuts, dried beans, honey, etc.. Place is very popular and during the peak times (weekends) it can be challenging to find a parking space. They take cash, cards and even Apple Pay. My favorite place to stop on the way home from the beach. Their big strawberry is so cute and I love that they serve the ice cream out of it. The service is great with mostly younger people in the ice cream hut helping with orders. The vanilla and the strawberry ice cream is my favorite and it is hard not to pick up some peach cobbler (seasonal) as well! They have all the fresh produce you can imagine as well as gifts and other merchandise to choose from. I count pass up some fresh heirloom tomatoes and peaches in addition to my small vanilla scoop in a waffle cone. Highly recommend for those with little kids and dogs as this is a great place to stop to stretch out and get the wiggles out. The ice cream was okay, the chunks of strawberry in the strawberry ice cream were way too big and annoying to eat, but the flavor was really good! The items in the gift shop were eye poppingly expensive so we didn't end up getting anything--I did grab a little thing of peaches and they rocketed between being not ripe enough and horribly mushy. While driving through the area, my wife and I started to get a little tired so we stopped at a non-descript roadside stand. Our must stop family tradition on the way home from the beach. Forever "Strawberry Shortcakes' House" after our daughter called it that when she was just 2 yrs old. Years of homemade butter pecan, and blue vanilla ice cream cones eaten here over 20 yrs. Fresh corn, field grown tomatoes, squash, turnips, peaches and you can't forget the strawberries !! They supply fresh produce, homemade ice creams which you must try at least one in your life, home decor nick naks, college sport team themed gourd bird feeders!!, boiled peanuts, dill pickles, pimento cheese, all types of food seasonings. Of course there is even more but that's a general rundown. Everything local; either they or another artisan produced it. Today we got a candle, cookie, boiled peanuts, and book for the road. It is with great regret that I share these thoughts regarding the Berry Patch! I have been stopping in there several times a year with family members as well as friend's and co-workers. The Homemade ice-cream is delicious and something we've enjoyed many many times. I have also supported the gift shop and shopped there over the years many times as well. Even normally do a lot of my Christmas Shopping there. I would say it is fair to say I spend an average of 3500 to 5000 a year there. I have told 100's of people about this "super cool" place! Sent 100's of referrals , told many people on your way to our home in SC be sure and stop in there .... You will LOVE it!! But with my most recent visit... sadly it was a horrible experience!! and an incredibly difficult situation .... however very hard to put into words... but in summary I received the wrong order the first time , when I attempted to have this corrected I was treated ugly, spoken rudely too and even lied to... Eventually I received the original order but it had obviously been handled inappropriately and likely not in a very sanitary manner, the young people working in the ice cream area were so rude and disrespectful towards me and literally lied to me (no, that's not an opinion or exaggeration) they hands down looked right into my eyes and lied .... in an attempt to look past all of this and still just trying to resolve the situation in a positive manner, I ended up speaking with the manager/owner who continued in the same manner of treating me very rudely and disrespectfully and as if I was expecting too much to want the correct order, a clean/safe food item and not to be lied too. Her exact words were actually "I think you are being silly". She had an opportunity to set an example of "Good Customer Srvc" to all of these young people, to set an example of honesty and integrity and how to value a long time customer instead she chose to set an example of the opposite. I was incredibly shocked and saddened...... Although the Berry Patch has amazing Ice Cream, Produce and a wonderful gift shop with such unique, cool stuff the staff taking this stance, and the owner condoning this treatment and treating a long-time customer so ugly is incredibly difficult to understand and completely unacceptable!! Sadly, I will not be back! Prayers for them all ..... I will miss the ice cream for sure !! Respectfully - Do Better! read more

Don't even know the number of times we've passed by this place - original location & new location - but this week we just plain stopped. Alice wanted to try their home made Strawberry Ice Cream, and I wanted to pickup some freshly picked strawberries. Alice got a medium waffle cone (just under $5) and it was massive, well worth the price, which seemed a little high initially, but not after we saw the cone. I grabbed a large basket of strawberries for $14 - the washed and cut up berries filled two large plastic containers, and the taste was outstanding. There will be strawberry shortcake tonight, and probably for several more. They have a variety of produce here, bit I really wasn't tempted this early in the growing season, but we'll be back, for some more strawberries, and to check out the tomatoes when the good ones come in. read more

I become Clark Griswold when traveling because I will go out of my way to stop and see the worlds biggest ball of yarn or a giant chair so you know I'm stopping by a big ol' strawberry on the side of 220. Fun place to stop right off the highway. Of course, the "berry" in the name highlights the fruit available, but this is a full farmers market stand. My wife picked up some nice tomatoes to go along with her strawberries. I stayed over by the ice cream stand, where I got a strawberry shake made with their own strawberry ice cream. It had a full strawberry flavor without being too sweet. Wife got the strawberry double: strawberry cobbler with strawberry ice cream.
