Unfortunately our visit this week disappointed. I will say that because of a problem in the original room we booked they did upgrade us to one of the larger apartments. When we arrived there wasn't anyone around even though their office sign said open. We even came back later and still no one there. They did answer our call as they were away from the property. The accommodations were clean and comfortable but the big disappointment was the food. We have stayed at many B&Bs and one of the highlights were the extraordinary breakfast that were served and many provided an evening desert. We were totally unimpressed with the thin slice of store bought pumpkin roll the evening we arrived and the second night they failed to bring a desert at all. The first morning breakfast wasn't horrible, but not impressive, biscuits and gravy and 2 pear slices. It is the second breakfast that stunned us. It was a small sausage patty, a flour tortilla folded over with Nutella in it and sliced bananas on top. We always have enjoyed our B&B stays and one of the reasons for our choosing to book a B&B is the enjoyment of a great breakfast. I've read reviews of others touting the breakfast so don't know what happened. Don't think we will have a return visit.

Sometimes we stay in the old hotels downtown and other times we decide to stay on the lake. I like both options, but I will say the peacefulness out on the lake is so nice. If you're on the fence about it, please know you should have zero hesitation about staying at Beaver Lake Cottages. These are very nice little "homes" ... I had cottage #1 and it was quaint and comfortable. White wood inside, clean carpeting, a kitchen with all the trimmings, and a Jacuzzi tub below a large window facing the woods. Even the couch was nice - and you know the couch is like the first thing to go in a community room. This cottage was honestly some place I would actually live in - like a studio apartment since bed and living room are together. But it was homey, cozy, well-appointed and very, very clean. The cottages are relatively easy to find. There is a well-lit sign at the entrance to the driveway that you'd have to try very hard to miss, even at night. The cottages are built along a pretty steep hill along the path to the lake, but it wasn't trouble by any means. At night, when we arrived, it was a bit nerve-wracking since I didn't know what the area actually looked like - all you see is a narrow lane and black space. But it's honestly not bad at all. Some things to note: cell phone service is just okay down there. I have AT&T and there were times my phone would show No Service but then I'd move an inch to my left and I'd have 1 or 2 bars. There is a phone in each cottage, but it's on a party line so you have to share. Also, you cannot use their phones to receive calls; outgoing only. Lastly, there is Wi-Fi but it's slow and spotty. It actually worked better when I went outside to sit on the deck - which would be fine in warmer weather, but it's not always warm. Overall, we would stay here again in a heartbeat. Downtown Eureka is a 15-20 minute drive away so it's close enough yet far away for some real rest and relaxation.

We really appreciated the coffee and the huge thoughtful gift basket filled with great snacks and fruit. It felt very VIP. The refrigerator was stocked with beverages and bottled water, and they replenished it daily, which was such a nice touch. Added to that was wine glasses, a fireplace and candles. Each room had its own smart TV. There were also plenty of towels and shower amenities, and the huge double shower was especially nice! The bed was very comfortable, and we were extremely grateful for the awesome air conditioning, especially with how hot it was outside. One of our favorite features was the beautiful wraparound porch -- such a nice place to sit and relax in the morning and evening. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into making guests comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Elmwood House to anyone visiting Eureka Springs! We'll be back!!

The owner of the cabin really pays attention to the little details. All of the little things that we needed during our stay were provided (ie. corkscrew, foil and gas for grilling, firewood for the fireplace, etc) We went for a walk on Saturday to see the lake and saw a bald eagle perched in the tree. It was literally 10 feet away from us! We also went in the newly constructed cabins which were cutely decorated just like our cabin. The lake is smaller so it's easy to take a morning and evening stroll around it to get your daily dose of nature. Our cottage was clean, comfortable, and adorable. I'd even say luxurious!! The pictures on their website aren't overselling-- it's really that perfect! We stayed in a pet friendly cottage (Gingerwood) with our two dogs, but you couldn't tell at all that it was "pet friendly" like a lot of other places (no bad smells or stains). The amenities were fantastic, too- the kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom was nicer than the bathroom in my house! Ha! The location is really close enough to town (Eureka Springs) that you can drive in for food and activities, but it's secluded enough to be away from all the traffic and noise. It was a truly perfect getaway and we plan on going back for an anniversary someday. The price was extremely reasonable, and their online reservation system was easy to use. On our last day there, Faryl (the cottage keeper who lives on-site and is very friendly) even texted us and invited us to come witness the birth of their new baby alpaca! It was such a cool experience and we were impressed that she had the presence of mind to invite the guests while she was serving as a midwife for the alpaca mama! HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Great memories and we can't wait until next time!! 5-stars!!
