We went to the best children's hospital twice in our state for two 10 day stints over a month's span. His heart rate was in the 40s and he had lost 1/3 of his body weight - he was VERY sick. After not feeling we had any success, we looked for programs outside our state. I cannot say enough about how impressed and grateful we are for this program and its staff. Elizabeth, the coordinator, made the process seamless and was so helpful in answering questions to make us comfortable moving forward. He received superior care while in the inpatient, PHP and the IOP programs. He was there a total of 12 weeks and it changed his life forever. The skills he has learned not only related to nutrition and his anorexia but will help him be much more successful in navigating relationships and life. His personal psychologist, family counselor and dietician taught him the importance of food, nutrition and health in a way that he understood. The nursing staff was so kind and VERY attentive. They were always well monitored by multiple staff members. The entire stay it was very evident how much each person there cared about my son and his recovery. From talent shows to boost his self-esteem, to trick or treating and teaching him to eat candy again, art lessons and yoga that focused on calming and retraining the brain - the entire program was meticulously created to help him heal. The family involvement was so helpful - we had all day Tuesday lectures, family counseling, meals together and family support groups. The patients and families there became our family. I am a Pediatrician and investigated many programs - I cannot tell you how grateful we are that Plano Children's program exists for children like our son. He has been home for a month and is eating very well now. He back into school and some of his prior activites. He is able to enjoy his life again with friends and family. How many stars do you give a program that saved your child?

When I got the "diagnosis" I was devastated. It was so wrong and off-base. One of my diagnoses was bulimia. Ummm...I am 5'5" and over 200 pounds. Same weight I've been for 5 years now. That floored me. Reading through the Impression, it was clear that a 2-hour interview, many multiple-choice applying to kids that don't really have a multiple choice answer to fit my situation, plus the therapists observation...it's more like she had a preconceived notion of what my issue was and just watched me to try and apply it. So off. For someone with severe depression and God forbid, suicidal ideation or for a job or something more serious, this could have been even more devastating! I did it for me, so at least I didn't have damage control in that aspect. Luckily, I have a therapist now and understanding people who helped me see that I already knew the truth. The fact that she said I had bulimia helped seal the deal that she had no clue what she was doing. Waste of time, money, and stress.
