I was a client of Randy's for YEARS (I'm talking about at least 5+ years). He started doing my mother's personal income taxes then went on to do mine. I never had an issue with him or his services until last tax year (2021). I had lost my job that I had been at for 6 1/2 years and emailed him to ask if he could work with me on pricing for tax preparation because of that. I got a call from his office soon after I sent my email but my phone only rang once. No one left a message and no one ever emailed me to reply or follow up. So, my gut feeling told me that he was acting funny style towards me now just because I asked him if he could work with me. I ended up having to get someone else to do my taxes for 2021. Fast forward to now, which is tax year 2022. I emailed him last Fri 3/10 and asked him if he had time to do my taxes and it is now Monday, 3/13 and still have not gotten a reply. As someone who gave him business for 5+ years, I would expect Randy to have some decency and at least reply and tell me that he is unable to do that instead of just ignoring me. That type of behavior is unprofessional and something I never expected from him being that I was a long time client of his. If he would have replied and explained to me that he was unable to work with me I would have completely understood. Not to mention, there was a NOTICE OF POTENTIAL DATA BREACH sent out to clients (including myself) in 2020. It stated that a number of The Bean Counter's clients' tax returns had been filed without their knowledge. This really happened to me. Fraudulent tax returns were filed in my name and prepaid debit cards were opened up in my name as well. This is why I need a PIN every time I file my taxes now. But, even after that, I still expressed interest to have my taxes done by him. Nevertheless, this tells you a lot about Randy's character. I was a client of his for years, I went through a little hard time in life and asked if he was able to work with me and got no response. He couldn't even tell me no, just straight ignored me. Randy initially seemed interested in supporting my business despite a bit of conversation regarding a misunderstanding of our model and profitability. Based off the reviews from Yelp I decided I would give him a shot anyway for my Sales Taxes only. We have a reasonably price book-keeper and income tax support already. Firstly, we are a Xero company which he said would be fine in the initial conversation but it was clear he had no experience utilizing their sales tax reporting tools. My book keeper had to chime in on each report. We were not using The Bean Counter for this service as his rates were not competitive. The first submission went off without a hitch. The second one he did not submit and my organization became liable for late tax payments and fines in the amount of a few thousand dollars. This shows a major lack of organization on his part, he did not make sure the final report was submitted so I was unable to make payment on time. I had to jump through the hoops for "one time" tax forgiveness on that error he made. That's my "one time". I parted ways with him and shortly afterwards received an email stating NOTICE OF POTENTIAL DATA BREACH. 2019 returns may have been filed without clients knowledge or consent. Just the icing on the cake. Frankly, don't use him if you can avoid it. He's not customer focused and seemed fine parting ways after his mistake. I usually use TurboTax to do my tax returns, but my taxes for this year was a little more complicated than usual (I was a part of a company that had been acquired and I had a few other tax items that I didn't have before). I initially tried filing my returns on TurboTax myself, but soon realize that the software did not accommodate my specific circumstances.
