Ask the Community - The Bealeton Library

Hi. So I'm absolutely new to using libraries. And this might seem like a "dumb" question for most but I'm curious if I need to pay for any libraries access or if it is free for the community? Any help would be much appreciated thankyou in advance

Hi J.M. - Fauquier Public Library cards are free for county residents and for residents in areas that have borrowing agreements with Fauquier County Public Library. For details on obtaining a library card, please see… Read more

An i still use an old library card?

Hi Brian - Fauquier Public Library cards expire every 2 years. Without details, not sure if your card is expired or not. Your best bet is to call your local branch (Bealeton's number is 540-422-8530) and provide your card number to a staff member.… Read more

The buildings are state-of-the-art and immaculately clean. Every area, including the restrooms, elevators, grounds, and event spaces, is meticulously cared for. The college dropped him from the class and failed to notify him in any way that they were changing it to hybrid and he needed to sign back up for it, AFTER it was already paid for. Twice now, the college has done this! The quality of the classes have been awful and he has basically paid out of state tuition to sit at home and teach himself, when the college is only 40 minutes away. Would never recommend this school to anyone in the area. I have several friends who's kids attempted to take classes through the Adult Work program and after they had already signed up for the class, they cancelled it a few days before because there wasn't an instructor. How can a school offer programs that they don't even have instructors for and what a frustrating and disappointing situation for anyone trying to better their careers! If you can't find teachers, don't offer the program. It's that simple. That way these kids can seek out a better college that does offer the program and not have to go through this constant rollercoaster of worrying that their classes will be canceled and the inability to never get finished!!! When my son contacted his advisor, there was no apology for what they have put him through, just a "good news, they are still offering your class but they changed it to a 12 week class instead of a 14 week and we just hired an instructor the other day." There was no, sorry we didn't email you to let you know that you would have to sign up again and we will apply your credit to the class. Nothing. INFURIATING.

Since it required a signature they did not leave it, and I was notified by email giving me an option to pick it up or reschedule my delivery. Once I saw this I called the post office and this woman answered the phone. I explained I missed the package and she rudely told me the carrier wasn't back without letting me finish. I told her I wanted to pick it up later then she asked my address discovering the carrier was there and said "well he rang your bell and knocked but you didn't answer, what do you want us to do?" Duh! I'm not home, I explained this again and told her I wanted to pick it up later and she said that was fine. Fast forward to 4:30 when I arrived there from work, same lady comes to the counter and I tell her I called earlier and I needed to get my package since I missed my delivery. She rudely tells me again it ain't there, none of the carriers are back, I told her I got an email saying they tried to drop it off and called to pick it up and she says "we don't send emails" and asks me about the pink slip on my door. Does usps not inform their employees about these things or is she dumb? I NEVER WENT HOME. Finally when she realized I talked to her earlier she took the effort to walk a few steps and look and voila! There was my damn package. As few as jobs are in Bealeton, someone needs to learn some manners

This seemed pretty common for troops to occupy houses on their travels and doodle on the walls, but this was a lucky example to preserve it behind paint which was discovered in time for it to avoid demolishion. Some graffiti is better preserved/readable than others, but it is a recent site to be opened to the public, so it's a work in progress. It's interesting to think of the young men who strolled through here 150 years ago. There was a knowledgeable guide who walked us through a few rooms pointing to some of the writing, a small exhibit, and a small gift shop. It's free, but since it's all volunteers, we gave a donation. It won't take very long to go through, but it's a cool historical site to visit in the area.

Used as a hospital during the War and occupied by both the Union and Confederacy, many soldiers signed their names or added drawings of horses, women, men, and more. The first floor has a little shop, a meeting room, and a restroom. (The restroom has some Civil War graffiti.) It's in the second-floor rooms where the majority of the historic graffiti can be seen along with stories of a few of its artists. It's a small museum open to the public thanks to a foundation, but it's worth your time!
