Have been to the Bay a few times recently and wondering what happened. Men's fashions have turned into like a pathetic bazaar of cheap brands, not sure if it's because of COVID or whatever, but it was like visiting a third world country - or almost like Sears a few years before they went out of business. The Bay Centre is located in Downtown Victoria and covers two city blocks between Government Street & Douglas Street and View Street & Fort Street. This five-level shopping centre has over 80 shops and restaurants anchored by The Bay department store. I'm not sure why The Bay Centre was originally catergorized as a hair salon, but maybe it has to do with The Bay radio ad jingle that can be heard from coast to coast (from BC to Atlantic Canada): "Beauty at The Bay." The bright atmosphere is very inviting with high glass ceilings over levels 1-4. This centre offers apparel, accessories, jewellry, electronics, sporting goods, books, gift shops, and other services. The food court is located on the fourth level and the Harbourview Restaurant is on the fifth level. Guest services is located on the first (street) level and there's underground parking (free after 6PM with validation). read more

An okay mall sadly many of its businesses were impacted by the COVID lockdown/restrictions. What's interesting about the mall is the fact that it has 4 floors or levels unlike most malls. It still has Earls which is a great dining option after a long day of shopping. It has an okay food court and moderately priced shopping options. It has a nice appearance to it and underground parking so I'll give it that. read more

A nice structured mall with a lot of stores. The architecture and layout is designed well and has a nice appearance to it. It is pretty busy and there are lots of stores you can visit from the usual big chain stores and local shops. Very clean and delightful to window shop as well. At the top floor there is a gym and the food court along with other shops. Food court is big and has lots of choices. A great place to visit for shopping and window shopping. read more

Our little downtown Bay is (slowly) following in the footsteps of its renovated flagship stores in larger cities by introducing more current, youthful fashion and footwear lines. In the two years I've lived here, The Bay has gone from the place I buy tights on sale and winter gloves to a legitimate shopping option for most apparel. Lately, I've found dresses here for work, weddings and going out, and I even bought a pair of gorgeous brown leather boots on sale. But...sigh, the shoe department. There are at best two people working in the ladies' shoe department at any one time, and get this: you have to line up beside the cash register to request a size. I'm sorry, but this isn't a discount shoe store, this is a department store selling $400 shoes. And if you are lucky enough to actually find shoes available in your requested size, it's nearly impossible to get the attention of sales staff. You have to wait in line yet again to try on a different size (and lose your coveted seat in the process). The Bay has some really great sales, but they need to hire more staff and treat their shoe department like a proper shoe store. Hopefully Nordstrom's imminent arrival on this side of the border will force companies like The Bay to up their game nationally. read more

Well, I have visited this mall almost every day. I regularly shop at the stores located at the bay center, and I am a member at GoodLife fitness at the upper level. But while I was waiting for my bus, one of the janitors thought it was a good idea to come and tell me to not warm myself up by doing a few jumping jacks meters away from the doors and insisted I interrupted their work. My friends and I laughed because we thought he was just bugging us but realized he's serious He thought we were mocking him so he threatened to call mall security on us. We then watched the janitors continue to chat and do nothing by the escalators. It was not a pleasant experience and he was extremely rude. read more

This is a department store that sells almost everything that a shopper can purchase throughout the year from holiday to everyday items. A cafeteria within the store is available to grab a bite to eat and drink to keep you energized. Casual to wedding attire can be purchased. Plus sizes are available too. The shoe and houseware department have a fair selection. Love the cosmetic department. The prices are decent during a sale and even better during clearance time. The store is bright and spacious so the items are not crowded together. The sales associate are friendly and helpful when available. In the last few years the sales associates are sparse except during the holidays (i.e. Christmas). You cannot return a shoe purchase if the accompanying box is not taken as well. In my case, my shopping bag could not accommodate the shoe box. The sales associate wrote "final sale" on my receipt. When I got home, the shoes I paid over $100 for didn't fit properly. Both were marked the same size. The shoe on my bigger foot was falling off and the shoe on my smaller foot was not !! When I attempted to exchange the shoes the sales associate refused based on the receipt's comment of "final sale." A convenient store for 1 stop shopping to accommodate your shopping for the young to the old. read more

Whilst wandering around the lovely Victoria, we found ourselves in this shopping centre while looking for a belt for my husband as he happened to have forgotten his on the trip. Sadly, we did not find a belt (nor look very hard), but we did have a fun time wandering around some of the stores and especially the food court which housed my favorite "Orange Julius" as well as an ingenious French fry place. read more

Over the holidays I did some Christmas shopping here. Even though it was very busy all the staff I came across was very helpful and friendly. I made my purchases through the customer service desk and later had to return one item through there as well. I don't know what all the other departments are like but the staff in the housewares/customer service area were impressive. The treatment I received was exceptional and all reasonable requests were met with care. I asked very nicely if they validated parking and it was done no question asked. I later found out that it was for purchases over $50 and was done for me while I did a return. Nice touch, these are the things that make great customer service. read more

Nice mall in Downtown Victoria. It's not too big, which means you can get through the mall pretty quickly, but there's a lot of restaurants nearby that are really nice. All the individual stores inside the mall have a good amount of store space, so you won't feel crowded while shopping. This business does not get it. They are going to go the way of Sears. I thought that the high prices and expensive location would equal superior customer service. Well, you'll get better at Walmart. I ordered a pillow online for store pickup. When I got to the store they couldn't find the pillow even though their inventory said they should have one. A few days later my order was canceled, no reason. To call, you have to navigate their phone labyrinth which twice shut off after I got to the point of asking for an operator and once told me there were system problems and to call back later. The operator said that the order was canceled because the store (Mayfair) didn't have it in stock. Yet another store a couple of miles away (Downtown) had plenty. But parking there is a nightmare. I asked them to send one from Downtown to Mayfair for pickup, and they said they couldn't do that. What??? (Like I said, Walmart does better.) They wouldn't want the Mayfair store to replenish their stock? She couldn't even tell me what the price in store would be ("All our stores have different pricing.") Good grief. The Bay is stuck in the sixties where monopolies reigned and customers groveled for whatever they could get. This is a monolithic bureaucracy with a web site veneer. There's no premium service at this dinosaur. read more

Great deals sometimes but rude and unhelpful staff. I had a woman get mad at me once for trying on too many pairs of Levi's because there was a sale on and I was taking up the change room. I was pretty shocked. They only have like ten change rooms which isn't enough. Finding help is hard since they only have two people in the men's department. I had a disappointing encounter with an older gentleman working in the 5th floor kitchen department. I was completely ignored for 10 minutes, and when he finally acknowledged my presence, he gave me attitude, which was in stark contrast to the way he treated another customer. He then proceeded to refer to me as "that girl" with "the hair" to his coworker when I was walking away. Disgusted. I'm sorry my curly hair displeases you. Hire some people with common decency who can treat people with respect. read more

Great place for shopping. Everyone is genuinely friendly. Every store is kept clean. Affordable prices and right next to Johnson street which is another shopping district! Husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. Rated a 4 because it would be nice if there was more variety in stores. Worth checking out though! read more

Sometimes you can get good deals there, but things tend to be a bit pricey. Also it's sometimes hard to find someone there to help you (I recently spent about 10 minutes in one section and wasn't able to enlist anyone's assistance and so ended up leaving empty-handed), and even when you do, they are always as charming as they could be. read more

My wife, son and I made a trip to the Hudson Bay Company store in Victoria, the main purpose being to get a suit for myself. I am so thankful that the day was beautiful and that the waterfront on Dallas Road was absolutely incredible, because the staff in the men's department was not only for the most part completely unavailable, when I did ask some questions that I thought were honest and fair ones, and ask for some help to get a suit in my size that was on sale, the sales person was actually quite rude to me. When I said "wow! I thought that the customer is always right, the clerk said "Ugh, that hasn't been true from quite some time!" Maybe these attitudes explains some of the troubles that I've read that this department store is going through! read more

Here is my recent experience at the Bay in Downtown Victoria that I sent directly to the Bay as well. I wish to complain loudly about the complete lack of service I received yesterday (Jan 4) at the Bay store in downtown Victoria. I was shopping for a dress for my partner in the Jaques Vert room at about 2pm. I was aware it was a high end area but I was looking for something special and I wasn't so concerned about price. There were two clerks working in the room talking to each other at the cash desk. I was a man alone looking at women's clothing. Neither one of them acknowledged me nor asked if they could help me. I asked if they worked on commission. No they did not, they said. I guess that is why they just stood there. All they had to do was be there, being paid for their hours not their sales! Needless to say, I left angry. If you are going to offer high end goods and prices I think I deserve high end service. I won't be back in that women's department again and neither will my partner! read more
