Given that there were 51 guests, there was a wide choice on the set menu. The waiters came around and took everyone's choice. I felt sorry for the chef, he couldn't have been prepared to know if he was going to require 30 turkey dishes or 30 lamb shanks. If I'd been the host I'd have got them pre-ordered. Neverthess, everything was fine. The vegetables were nice and hot too, and plenty of extras. I've dropped them one star for one big no no in my book: Deep fried potatoes pretending to be roast potatoes. I know why they do it, but I wished they wouldn't. Apart from that a wonderful feast. read more
C'mon then, lets review all the things near the hometown! A barn conversion (if you couldn't guess by the name) at the edge of cannock chase, we came here for a family Birthday. Mostly roast type things, and their attempts at gastro pub fare, I guess. Everything tasted fine, but other than the fuel for my absolute love of beams, it wasn't particularly anything to write home about, I do remember vividly, however, their way of calling their pudding a strawberry shortcake, and succeeding in using only one strawberry! Sliced in crisp-thickness slices. It seemed a little tight to me! They do do wedding receptions, and it's a nice enough place for that, but definitely somewhere for the plainer and less adventurous eaters among us! read more

Great venue, exposed brick and timber barn conversion, staff were friendly too, it's just that I somehow expected more from the main meal, a little more pzazz perhaps ? A plate with a spoon of boiled carrots, boiled red cabbage and cauliflower and new potatoes surrounding a centrally heaped pile of mashed potato garnished with mango chutney and finished off with a small medallion of pork sitting on top does not constitute shining excellence and savoir fayre by the chef in my book, it takes something a little bit special to shine from the competition in today's competitive market and I'm afraid that relying on the ambiance of a loft conversion (albeit a very good one) will not draw customers back to pay hard earned money for such mediocre fare. read more
