I kept one of my cats here from September 19 and October 7 while I was on a foreign vacation. Months in advance, in April, I messaged this business to ask if they could board my three cats and administer a few medications such as "subcutaneous lactated-ringers fluid" for one cat who has stage-2 kidney disease. The owner replied, "Yes, we are able to provide the requested services" and "$25/pouch injection." In May, the owner and I again emailed each other, and she confirmed the services and prices. I decided to board only the one cat who needed medications and to keep the other two cats at home with my friend. On the business's website, I completed a registration form that asked about my cat's medical conditions, medications, veterinarian's contact information, and the cat's health documents. In September, the business and I emailed each other to confirm the dates of stay, the foods, and medications. The next day, hours before my husband and I would leave for our foreign vacation, we took our cat, carrier, food, and medications to the business for her to begin her stay. About 45 minutes after we left the business, two employees called us and said that they had never administered subcutaneous lactated ringers and did not know how to do it! My husband and I turned around our vehicle and drove another 45 minutes back. The owner should not have told us months earlier that that service is provided, and the employees should have told us when we dropped off the cat and supplies. At this point, I was considering keeping my cat at home with my other two cats and friend, but the employees told me that they could administer the lactated ringer's if I set up the bag, tubing, and needle. They said that they knew how to administer insulin injections, which also goes into subcutaneous tissue such as the scruff of the neck. They spoke nicely to us, and I appreciate that they were willing to try. My husband and I went on our foreign vacation. Our cat stayed in a small, multi-level cat condo, and she was occasionally allowed to roam around the larger room. On one day, an employee sent an email update about the cat. The employee tried to administer the lactated ringers and was able to give it one time in the 19 days. That medication was the entire reason why we kept the cat here. The total cost for the stay was $475. After we picked up the cat, she was vomiting more than usual, was dehydrated, and had much worse laboratory values. I will have empathy for the employees and will appreciate their efforts. I rarely write 2-star reviews, but the owner should not have told us that her business can administer subcutaneous lactated ringers.

I saw a negative review this morning about this wonderful facility, and after reading it, my…read moreopinion is that the entire thing was an elaborate figment of someone's vivid imagination, a smear job made up for who knows what reason. That said, I used to train and show English mastiffs and now I have multiple little dogs as pets. I have seen and utilized many doggy day care centers, and Pgh Paws Pet Resort is excellent and a model for others to follow. What is especially different is the level of personal care and bonding each dog receives from caregivers there. The ratio of caregiver to dog is excellent and the dogs are separated into groups according to size and temperament. One of my pups is getting pretty old, and he has a whole little group of "elderlies" who hang out together and nap. When the group is rowdy, the elderlies are given their own space so they can relax without being bumped. My dogs have rarely been so excited to be dropped off for "puppy play school" as they are here. I feel lucky that they even want to come home!

Don't take my word for it. Drop in and ask to see the facilities. It is beyond deplorable and should be shut down. They seem lazy and are letting it fall into ruin using an inexpensive price to milk any people who don't care enough about their dog to pass up a cheap kennel. As we toured the building, the grooming station was a mess. Hair from many different dogs strewn all about. Urine ran from the cage areas to a central drain (dogs don't like to sleep where they pee but it was quite obvious that those poor dogs in their care hadn't been taken out... ever.) The run out back was small with tall, uncut grass. It was also filled with feces. That was probably the reason they weren't taking the dogs outside.

I was in a serious pinch due to a last minute change in my son's wedding venue and the kennel I had previously scheduled was full, on this date. Once we got there the place was overgrown and there was garbage around the entrance to the office door. I hesitated leaving my dogs, but I thought a day and a half couldn't possibly be so bad. I was so wrong!! When I went to pick up our dogs, their beds were soaked in urine. The owner tried to tell me it was water from an over turned water bowl. Lie number one. Our dogs NEVER urinate in the house or on themselves. They can both hold their urine all night long and for at least 8 hours when left at home. They don't feed them the way you request per the paperwork you fill out. The owner told me the dogs hadn't eaten well that morning. Lie number two! I sent just enough cans of wet food to mix with their dry food and when I got home all but one can was still with their belongings. My dogs couldn't get enough to eat, once home. I wonder if they were fed at all. They need investigated and shut down!! I will be notifying the proper authorities! This is animal abuse and neglect! Don't send your pets here!! A dangerous place for them!!

When he was around 12 weeks old, I had to go on a trip to D.C. so I had to find a place that I would feel comfortable leaving him for about a week. I came across this kennel, and I just felt very at ease with the entire operation. The owner and I discussed (at great length) what the day-to-day is like, and I knew it would be the right fit. When I dropped my puppy off, he was so excited and felt so at home that he didn't even pay any attention to me! He was just so hyped up to be there and everyone was so sweet and accommodating for us. They even sent me daily pictures and video to let me know that he was doing fine and having lots of fun! They're a really great place if you are a nervous, over-protective pet parent like me! They do all sorts of services including grooming, extra walks and play time, distributing any medications that pets require, they provide their own food if you don't bring any but you can bring your own too and they will feed and water your pet to your exact specifications. They keep the dogs separated which gives additional peace of mind, since I don't trust stranger's dogs around my own when I'm not around. They each have their own little indoor and outdoor runs, which is great because I would hate to have my dog locked up inside for most of the day when he could be in and out when he pleases! The outdoor runs are entirely covered by metal wire fencing, which keeps dogs of all sizes safe from any potential predators, like birds of prey. The entire place is always so clean, never too crowded, and their outdoor large grassy area is beautiful, very safe, and very natural. I don't like the idea of my dog playing all day in an indoor rec area with foam padding or whatever, I want him rolling in some grass and peeing on trees and chasing butterflies! They are also extremely reasonably priced. A lot of kennels and day-cares are super expensive but this place is so easy on your wallet! I only end up paying $20 per day for boarding, which is a lot less than the other local places, and considering all that you get with it, it's an awesome deal. It's one of the biggest reasons I chose Red Mud to begin with. The staff are always courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to spend time with animals. They also take cats! I have now boarded him at Red Mud about 4 times, each time was for at least 4 days, and my dog was always very well exercised, well fed, well taken care of, and well loved. Sometimes he seems like he doesn't want to go home! If you're looking for a safe, secure, well-priced, dog-approved kennel, this is your best bet! I'm about to travel to D.C. again, and I know my 4-year old pup will be so excited to return here!
