I've gone to him for over 25 years, back when these guys were Thom's on the backside of Ala Moana, with the giant Lego Star Wars builds and the chain smoking, fortune telling aunty who legit gave the me best job advice ever. Sam also chain smokes, so if that bothers you, he's not for you. If you can deal with it then you're in for a good cut. walked in and asked if walk ins were available they all stayed sat on their phones and one answered "what do you want" in a aggressive tone as if he resented me for walking into his o "great" establishment then they shunned me out saying they could not cut hair because someone was coming at 4:30 which is understandable but there were 3 barbers present. The Barbers barbershop is a must visit place when visiting Honolulu. They are friendly, they do great work and the parking is the easiest in the city. My son who is difficult with haircuts felt right at home and was made comfortable. Their haircut skills are amazing. They did both my son's hair and mine in record time and were very detailed. This place makes me want to move here just for the service. Thank you the wife and husband that work there and took care of us. I'm sad I don't get their names. My husband chose to get a hair cut and have his 2 week old beard shaved off completely. Called the shop that morning and got an appointment for that afternoon. Decided to go here rather than his other regular barber. The result - my husband said it was the best hair cut and shave he'd receive. I believe it was Tom that did the service. He took his time, asked my husband how he wanted the top and sideburns trimmed. I watched and saw that he used more than one type of shaver to accomplish the finished work around the head and on the beard. The parking lot is next to the shop and easy to get to. I thought the stalls were good size. I saw that one reviewer thought the stalls were small but we had an ordinary Honda sedan. read more

Formerly Thom's Barber Shop in Ala Moana their new location, simply called The Barbers, is across from the mall on Kona st. It's in the same building as Taste Tea, Sweet Creams, and Manichi Ramen. The new place is quite a bit smaller and has a few less chairs (I think I counted 8) but many of the same barbers are still there and with a few new ones as well. I'm glad Joanne is still there, she's in the first chair on the right as you walk in. They've been open from February 1st, 2020 and like with any new place, they're still doing some organizing but the place seems pretty well laid out already. I'm not sure yet if their hours will be different but they did open at 8am this morning (Monday) which is great for me since I can stop by there to get a haircut after I get out of work in the mornings. One thing they did mention was the a/c for the building needed to be worked on so it doesn't get as cool as it should be. Until it does, I'd recommend going for a haircut in the morning hours before it gets too warm in the later afternoons. The shop is in the two story yellow building and the parking lot entrance is on Kona st between Ke'eaumoku and Kona Iki. There's a good amount of parking so that shouldn't be a problem. read more

The prices here went up quite a bit.... but honestly, every single place has had to raise prices in this post pandemic world. I still bring my son here because the service is very fast and efficient, there is hardly ever a wait time, and he always gets a great hair cut. I think his most recent cut was 23.00, which is still very reasonable. There's a small parking lot but we always manage to find parking. Appointments are no necessary and the convenience and service are well worth the price. read more

If you were wondering what happened to Thom's Barber Shop in Ala Moana Shopping Center (AMSC), look no further as they moved across the street on the mountain side in the same building that has places like Manichi Ramen, and Sweet Creams (rolled ice cream). If you have been to the original location, you would of seen tons of original Star Wars Lego's. People used to come to the shop just to take pictures of all the Legos and the different displays they made. Unfortunately due to space, there isn't any of the Star Wars Legos which is kind of a bummer as it brought back memories of the ones I use to have. They have the same phone number when they were at AMSC so it makes it convenient to call and make an appointment as I already have the number programed in my phone. The thing I don't like about this location is the parking lot can get packed at peak times and the stalls are small, so I worry about getting a door ding. I have my secret spot that I like to park at and no I'm not saying where it is. In fact I should put up a sign, private parking for me. haha Due to Covid, seating to wait is outside but it is in the shade so it's not so bad. They have air-conditioning so you can cool off once inside. read more

Been a customer since 1996 from when they were in Ala Moana as Thoms. Yes, there may have been some barbers you may or may not always like, but that's what it would be like if you were trying to find a new barber. They recently changed their hours to closed on Sunday and Monday. And even more recently, they have 2 new (soon to be 3) barbers, and they all have experience and are very pleasant. Sam is still there and gives quick mens cuts with a smile. I also noticed that they have a new POS system and may be taking credit cards now. In all a good and affordable place to get a quick cut. read more

Avoid the "barber" in the back of the room at all costs! I told her #2 on the sides and back but leave at least 2" on the top and front. She nodded like she understood. She ended up cutting EVERYTHING 1/4"! The thing is I didn't walk in with that style haircut!! Most guys want the same style they walk in with except shorter!!! What she did wasn't even close!!!! Even though English is obviously not her first language, I don't think that was the problem. I don't think she knows how to cut hair any other way. I would bet that the other one star review was for the same barber. I got a haircut at this location before from another barber and it was fine. I will be going back but it won't be a problem for me if asked to say, "Any barber except HER" (pointing to the only chair against the back wall). Needless to say, I am VERY upset. read more

Quick and easy place to get a man's haircut at a reasonable price. Quan Tran is the barber I prefer and has cut my hair for years. He does a great job and is very personable. This is a new location opened by the owner of Thom's Barbershop that used to be in Ala Moana Center. Although no longer in the mall, they are on a side street connected to the mall and very easy to get to. Even if you plan on just shopping in the mall, all you need to do is cross Kona street and bam, you are there. Not much has changed, just the location. Waits are not long if there is a line, but you can always make an appointment if you have a preferred barber. The location is a brighter shop with windows that allow lots of natural light unlike the old location that was next to the parking garage. Forget those chain barbers, you will get a better cut here at a good price. Those new trendy barbershops are way to expensive. Unless you are going for some sort of a fashion model look, keep it real and get cut here. read more

Went to have a haircut yesterday, there were 6 barbers at the location. I noticed there was no sign at entrance that wearing a mask is a must. When I walked in, 2 out of 6 barbers are not cutting hair, and both of the are NOT wearing mask. There is one customer having his haircut, and he was not wearing mask. This place is violating the city order for this type of establishment to have the staff to wear mask. WILL NOT GO HERE AGAIN. read more

Been going to this establishment since it was Thom's Barber in AMSC. They moved across the street which is still convenient with lots of free parking in front. You now have to make appointments due to Covid, but you still ge the same great service and price without the extra charges some places are charging of PPE, which is so said. If you want to support give a larger tip to the stylist who services you. read more

I worked at Ala Moana mall for 7 years and got my hair cut conveniently at Thom's. Even though I work elsewhere now, I still make it out every 4-6 weeks to get my hair cut there. Sad that they had to move. Ala Moana is going "upscale" and chasing out all the old local shops. It's a new location but the same friendly familiar faces and consistent haircut! The place is easy to find. If you are street level mauka outside of Aldo / Tricked-out wireless, look across Kona street and you can see the bright yellow trimmed building. Place is great! Yoon the barber in the back is awesome. She adapted to my "curvy" head nicely. My wife found it too difficult to cut my hair, but Yoon did an excellent job. It is always great to have a haircut, especially after the stay home order. I think the State of Hawaii should also issue "Spa Card/ Salon Debit Card" on top of the restaurant debit card. The old Thom's Barber shop in Ala Moana. Been going there since the 70's. Glad they are still around. Got my last cut in March before they had to shut down because of the COVID-19. I went down around 10am and it wasn't crowded at all! When I went down when they reopened, guys were waiting around 7:30am and they open at 8AM! Figured I wait another week.
