1/2 I was introduced to A's Barber Shop by my longtime hairstylist. His haircuts had gone up to around $60, and since I usually get a simple cut, he suggested I look for something more affordable. A friend recommended this place, and I've been coming here since. When I first started, haircuts were $20 -- now they're $22, which is still a great price. If you're looking for a straightforward, no-frills neighborhood barber shop, this is a solid option. The cuts aren't high-end or super detailed, but they do a good, clean job that gets the job done. Well, as luck would have it, I find myself back in Honolulu again, needing a beard trim as I have some business appointments and an event coming up this weekend. And after two very successful trips to A's barbershop, we thought we'd give it a third try again and it just keeps getting better. Today my beard was trimmed by Kat, who is just incredible with a fantastic attitude, master skills, And an attention to detail that's getting rarer to find these days. Parking was a breeze in the back and I waited no longer than 10 minutes to get into a chair and have my beard serviced without an appointment. I'll be back for sure. And just glad to have found a permanent barbershop that does fantastic work for an incredible price. Look forward to moving back home soon and sitting in that chair more often. Their cheap prices do not undermine their quality, let that be completely clear. A's is my go-to barbershop if I'm unable to schedule my regular barber (because of my procrastination). While they happily accept walk-ins, you can absolutely call ahead to guarantee a fast visit. I also love their services in conjunction with haircuts, which includes shampooing and fast post-cut massages. And sure, the cuts may not always be perfect, they're serviceable and have never made me feel self conscious or less confident. read more

Needed a last minute cut and found A's right down the street. Gave them a call and they were able to squeeze me in 30 minutes later. I'm a bit particular about my cuts so I'm always hesitant to try somewhere new but I was in bad shape and by regular guy was out of the country. Best barbershop in Hawaii, maybe the world. I just moved away, and really miss these ladies and their amazing skills. They listen and know how to make anybody look their best. Make an appointment or walk-in to freshen up your fade or whatever you need. walk in during the afternoon. It got busy after i came with appointment and walk ins. There are 2 A's next to each other served by different entrances. I gave the instructions and she started to cut. No conversation. She stopped and turned the chair and asked how was it. I said good, however I didn't realize that she finished because it seemed to me that she just cut the back and sides. You must be very detailed with what you want cut with this barber otherwise you could leave looking worst than you went in. I came in with my hair combed with hair product and left with shorter hair but like I came out of the shower. FYI, I have very straight thick Asian hair. Another client was given a brief massage. I recall a friend mentioning this place for kids haircuts with reasonable price at $20 and they have designated parking so no searching on busy king st. I have been going to A's for almost two years and today's experience made me question if I would return. The price for a haircut is $20 and a bit more if you want a "Style" type haircut. I was charged more than the advertised price of $20. The lady barber said my haircut was more expensive since to I am not a regular customer. Her definition for a regular customer was to get my hair cut at their place every 3 weeks. What a crock of BS. Never in my life (and I am turning 70 this year) have I experienced a business charging more based on a requirement of getting a haircut every 3 weeks. I went to A's for over 20 years and while overall I never really received bad service, I found that if a stylist gets too good or are perceived as a threat, they get run out of the shop. They did this twice, first to Kat then later Lani, both stylists that I loved and were so good with my hair. So it is with a sad heart and two mediocre cuts later I have to announce that I will no longer be going back to A's. I found Lani, my ride or die, after 6 months of searching at Kahala Barber. I'll be going there from now on. NGL, I'm a little sad as I went to A's for so long, but I won't compromise my hair any longer. read more

Walked in (there's two shops next door to each other) and could accommodate my two boys within 5 minutes. The ladies here are very nice and very precise!! They don't rush the job but check and trim. My sons like their hair two completely different styles - short and faded, and the other long layers but trimmed in the back. Both cuts looked great!! And the boys were happy with them too (which isn't always the case, unfortunately). They got lollipops after too - bonus! Plus the price is so reasonable at $18 plus tax and tip!! Took me as a walk-in. First time customer. Haircut was fine it was that I was overcharged on my CC. Language barrier notwithstanding the tip was inordinately large. I am at partial fault, in that, I did not check my email receipt until I got home. Lack of business integrity. Barber was not dressed in a white suit - like 3 other barbers - and her chair was on the left side. A weird experience as I asked about the suits and she misunderstood- language barrier - and thought I wanted to change my haircut request. She told me that she wasn't wearing one for personal reasons and then proceeded to explain why. Street parking available. But I prolly won't be back. read more

Town has many hole in the wall barbershops. I was interested in another place before I went here. I called in and they answered pretty fast. It was nice that they could take me in right away. There are about five gals working when I arrived on a Saturday afternoon. They have a two parts and so it was a little confusing when I walked in. However, you can see a stand that points an arrow of their direction. There are a few stalls in the rear or street parking. I ended up biking here. They offer foot massage and massage chairs from $10-30. They also charge $16 CASH for haircuts. They also accept card but they do not advertise since they will have to charge you more (maybe due to transaction fees??). The lady who cut my hair listened to exactly what I wanted. It is around women who speak Taiwanese so they enjoy to chatter while they work. That is totally fine with me since I fall asleep to the sound of the buzzer anyways. I was very amused by the customers who seem like regulars here. There was a Mexican dude doing a major mac-attack on the hair-stylist who was just tryna laugh and flirt. It was funny since her co-workers were saying you pay $16 for haircut and $20 for her info. My haircut turned out better than I expected. They also include a rinse at no extra charge. read more

Solid Haircut and quick too. There's not much more you can say. I was definitely skeptical at first when I called to see if my teenage son could get in for an overdue haircut on a Saturday morning at 11:00am and they told me to just come! Glad we did! A lady they call "Auntie" took us right away. She was friendly, asked my son how he wanted his hair to look and she was off and cutting. I was initially worried that her cut wouldn't be as short as we requested, but she was careful and made sure everything was proportionate. Her shape was awesome, not to wide, not too narrow, and I must say, she can sure fade! I wanted to take pics, but I respected the sign that said no pics. At the end, they give a short shoulder an neck massage and even ask if you want a quick rinse. Prices were extremely reasonable and as a Mom on the go, this place is tops! read more

If you go here, make sure you go to the owner 'A'. I made the mistake of walking in without an appointment. The girl I got was slow (the time it took for 3 other cuts by each of the surrounding cutters) and super unsure of herself, which would have been fine if the cut was good. But it's not, even after showing her pictures. No wonder she was available... Then she charged me $2 more than normal. Don't risk walking in. I usually cut my own hair, and if I'm not up for the task, this is my go to place. Ladies here are good at what they do. They also do rinse and a little shoulder message for at no additional cost to the customer; just gotta give a nice tip. They a have parking in the back and also street parking. There are some eating places nearby wheee you can have nice meal after a nice clean cut. They also take credit card. read more

I had my hair cut at A's this week. I used to try different places that were convenient at that time I needed a hair cut, but A's has become my go to place these days. They are convenient, fast and friendly. They also do a great job, which for me isn't as important as the convenience... since my hair grows out really fast. You also feel very safe there. They not only wear masks, but they also wear these white full body suits. They almost look like hazmat suits at first glance. They try to adhere to social distancing when possible and they always wipe everything down. read more

I've been coming here for a couple of years now, and it's the real quick and dirty. It has to be the highest value haircut on the market. If you're looking for a high-end haircut this obviously isn't the place and you should know that you get what you pay for. There are a group of Chinese women who speak to each other in Chinese (not sure which dialect). I want to call them friendly, but since I don't actually communicate much at all with them, "benign" or "inviting" might be a more accurate description. I sit there in silence for about 15 to 20 minutes while my hair is cut, generally to my satisfaction. It's never perfect but they can do a basic fade. Their price went up about a dollar or two during Covid which is totally understandable and still easily covered by a 20 with tip included. During Covid they often wear matching jumpsuits in addition to their face masks which is a cute touch. They offer a simple shoulder massage at the end but I have never taken up this offer. Bottom line is: Great for a quick and casual haircut that doesn't break the bank. read more
