I was having one of those terrible days, you know like Murphy's law anything that can happen will happen type of days. Late to work, stuck behind a train, stepped in a puddle, you get the gist. One way to make my day better is by getting a fresh haircut. Feels sort of like pressing reset on my day. I had never been to the barber lounge but it was near my work and I wanted to give it a try. The first time I tried to go in they were all booked but this time I was able to easily make an appointment with Carlos. I really appreciated his professionalism. Never met him before but he made me feel as if I had been coming to that shop for years. Customer service is something I greatly value and Carlos had some of the best I had ever seen. He actually took his time and didn't rush through my haircut just so he could get someone else in his chair. Of course customer service is only worth it when the skill and quality of the cut are on par with it. Without a doubt this barbershop has both. Also great is that your first time haircut I think is discounted and they accept card! Anyone who frequents barbershops knows how annoying it can be to have to pull out cash before every trip. There are so many Puerto Ricans in this barbershop that I expect somebody to sit down next to me with a plate of pasteles while I'm waiting to get my haircut. There's a sign on the door that says "walk-ins welcome". However, if it's Friday or Saturday, it's more like you're welcome to wait your ass about two and a half hours. I would highly suggest going during the week when it's less busy. I've came here for my last two haircuts and I intend to keep going. They're reasonably priced and the barbers can cut. The walls are decorated with colorful graffiti art that would probably scare some white people into thinking they are gang affiliated. They always have satellite radio on, which is likely playing merengue, bachata, hip-hop, or house. They have TV's that usually have Sportscenter on if there isn't a game. I like that they have an adequate number of chairs for people to sit while they're waiting. I only have one small complaint. These barbers take their sweet ass time cutting each and every individuals hair, which makes the waiting process seem ridiculously long at times. I dig the atmosphere. I needed a new go-to barbershop and I think I found it. read more

I came into this shop on a whim, because the barber shop I normally go to I have not had the greatest experience with. I was expecting to be waiting a while on a Saturday evening, because I didn't make an appointment, but I literally walked in and less than 5 minutes later I was met by Brian who cut my hair. He did an AMAZING job, gave me his business card and took his time to cut my hair and cut it right. I am extremely satisfied with the service I received, and I will most definitely come back to see him. Reasonably priced, fun atmosphere, the barbers joke with you instead of looking at you like you have an eyeball growing out of your ear. I really enjoyed myself, and happy about the result. I have found my new go-to shop. I will definitely recommend that you make an appointment before going. The haircut was fine, but my barber charged me an extra $5 for having to use scissors on my hair. Thought this was strange but shrugged it off. Called a few weeks later to schedule another appointment and figured I'd confirm price before going. No extra charge for scissors. I care less about the $5. The dishonesty bothers me. No thanks. I went there for the first time today and will continue going. Brian is great at what he does, but beyond being a great barber, he was very perceptive. He recommend some slight changes to my hair and found out what I wanted without me having to say much. Lastly, he keeps his equipment clean. There was a cut right before me and he took 5 minutes to clean off all his stuff prior to working on me. Again, This is not something you see often. Highly recommend this shop. While I give my barber an A for effort. The fact of the matter was the guy barely knew how to cut hair and gave me a fade I could have gave myself. Anthony and Ernesto were awesome. Eddy was also great, however, he took a bit too long at times (1 hour and 40 minutes). I was rejected a hair-cut at one point by the girl and the white guy with the beard when they were the only barbers around because it was 6PM, but the sign says they close at 7, so I was a bit disappointed. I used to go to Sam's on Grand Avenue in Bensenville when I wanted a quality hair cut. If it wasn't that I would go to great clips or super cuts. Since I found out about The Barber Lounge however it's really the only place I ever go to. Every time I go in I'm usually waiting less than your average Hair Cuttery place. They do take their time with the haircuts which is nice because at the end of the haircut your know that they usually do a good job. I would definitely suggest this entertaining atmosphere to people as well. read more

I had my hair cut here once and the did a decent job. The second time I was there was today. I waited for someone to be available to cut my hair about 20 minutes. Then I go sit down and tell him what I want, which is a fairly simple cut. He tells me that the other barber would do a better job at this. So, I get out of his chair and wait for the other barber who is in the middle of a cut. About 25 minutes later he finishes. He then goes outside not acknowledging me at all as he walks past me. He comes back in the shop and goes to the back room. He comes back out and starts to clean his chair, then goes back outside. In the meantime another customer comes in. Keep in mind, about 15 more minutes have gone by since he finished his last cut till the time the new customer walks in. He comes back in and tells the new customer to come sit down. At this point I'm getting irritated. The first barber I talked to calls him on it and tells him I've already been waiting a long time and that I'm next. So, he has me come over and the other guy goes to the waiting area and I sit in his chair. He then, after I've been waiting over an hour, tells me I really need to cut this other guys hair. I'm sure it was his friend or some crap. They really don't know how to run a business. I wanted to make this my new place since I got a decent haircut there before, but I will never go back. Horrible customer service. I'd rather drive an hour out of my way, where I know I will get treated well and get a great haircut. I'm just really amazed how they treat new customers. My mistake for trying someplace new. They just lost a potential regular customer and I HIGHLY recommend going somewhere else, unless you have a couple hours waste waiting for them to get their act together. read more
