He is a true professional who takes a great deal of pride in his work. I can tell him I want my hair to look good for a business trip one week from now, and he knows exactly what to do. The shop itself still has that old-school barbershop feel. I personally refuse to have my hair cut in any type of "salon" -- let alone some discount chain. It's also in a great location, directly across the parking lot from the Boise Co-op.

You could basically see the tears billowing under my eyes when the owner of the shop told me, "Johnny is no longer with us. He packed up and moved to Cascade to start a cab company" My heart stopped for a second...or two. It was awful news to come home to. I had to find a new barber. I was starting to look like a hippie (not that there is anything wrong with that. Its just not who I am...anymore lol) So, I go to North End Barber Shop. I had noticed this place a few months prior to my visit. I thought, oh how cool...another small barber shop. Its small, homey, like a mom and pop shop. Kinda reminds me of the barber shops back home in NY, or the one Johnny worked at (Jacks Barber Shop on Overland). So, I decided to finally check it out. I waltz in, excited to get mah hair did. There was a big dude there, not sure what his name was...you'll know him when you see him though. Big, jolly, guy. Very nice. Anyway, he took me right away. There was also an older woman working there. I believe there is one other guy who works there, but I over heard he was out, due to an injury. I tell, Big Guy, "ok so, I want it buzzed on the side...pretty much down to skin...high up and then faded in perfectly. Kind of like a military cut...just the fade in needs to be perfect"..(Johnny was a master at this. YES! I loved Johnny haha! He was the man and knew how to cut hair...but I digress....) So then, I tell Big Guy, just a little off the top. He did great with that. I gotta keep on top what I have left HA!!...Thankfully though, I have a lot. Not losing it that fast, but ya know. THEN! OMG! He buzzes the sides, the lines don't match up, one side of my head had a piece where he buzzed way too high...didnt match up with the line on the side. Then, the fade....seriously? I couldn't even call it a fade. I LEGIT looked like a militant lesbian version of Shia LeBouf without that ratty ass tail he has.... and with the lines I had....which were supposed to be faded....it looked like I had a bowl on my head....like Shia LeBouf! I looked like the militant lesbian Shia...who lived in the Amazon and who should be scaling trees for exotic fruits and things. It was tragic. He told me, "its really hard to fade these lines in the way you asked" Ok, I'm sorry, but why are you are a barber? Tell me again how this happened? Like I said, nice guy, very straight forward. I said I wanted one thing done and he said "oh no, I think that would look awful! I personally think that point in the pack looks hideous on people" So much for trying a new and weird look. OH MY GOD! I JUST WANNA BE A HIPSTER, OK!??!!! haha! jk! They are the worst. Again, nice guy, straight forward. Dream crasher :-/ He tell you what is good and what is not.....but then he will leave you looking like a big ole militant lesbian version of Shia LeBouf. Thankfully, my roommate, used to cut hair back in the day and was able to fix it....somewhat. I mean, it was that bad. Thank God I am not a 12 year old....I would seriously be getting my ass beat everyday for the next 2 weeks!!! UGH! haha! Be Aware of this place!! or just of him! Summary: Got a straight razor shave. Had the person changed…read moremultiple times before the appointment, blade was dull, poor prep and aftercare, and the shave was so bad, I had to shave at home with a regular razor. Long Version: My coworker had been raving about straight razor shaves for months if not years. I finally decided to try one, but he gets them in Nampa, so I looked online for a downtown spot. For whatever reason, this shop was praised. I'm guessing A.I. mixed up reviews for the shop in general and reviews for straight razor shaves. I originally scheduled with April for a few weeks later. About a week after, she called and said something had come up and if I wanted her on a different day or someone else for the same time. I stuck with the same time. I got a text that I was moved to Dre, then immediately got another text that I was moved to Nikki. About another week later, I then got another text saying I was moved to Dre, then immediately another text saying I was moved to Kenyon. That was already weird and I almost cancelled then. I wish I had. I show up to the building and look for a sign related to which door has z43. I couldn't find one. I go inside the only doors that don't appear to go inside a restaurant and I see an elevator and hallway. I look around a bit and can't figure out where z43 is. I look at the elevator again as it has a sign with locations, confirm z43 is here and eventually notice it has sections and z43 is in the "lower" section. Find stairs that go down and finally find the shop. I walk in and see Kenyon and no one else. I really got a lot of signs telling me not to go. I really should have listened. Kenyon was nice enough to talk to, but from what I understand about how great straight razor shaves are supposed to be, this was horrid. I got a single hot-towel warmup to start with. Then he applied the cream and shaved part of 1 side and I immediately noticed "huh, this isn't as smooth feeling as I expected". Then applied more cream and shaved part of the other side. He kept doing this for 4+ separate shaves without applying another hot towel. As time went on, the shave got more and more rough. He was even having to stop here and there to shave at a different angle because my hair was pulling too much. Once only my chin and mustache remained, he finally applied another hot towel. He continued to have issues figuring out what angle would actually cut the hair. Once he was done, he applied 1 more hot towel. He couldn't even press the towel against my face without catching hair and exposing that my face wasn't even smooth. He applied whatever the aftershave stuff is and asked if I was good. I said ya despite being very unhappy and stood and just awkwardly watched him wondering how I paid. After what felt like a full minute, he finally turned towards me while looking at his phone and I realized he must be preparing for me to pay that way. After another several seconds, he finally stuck his phone out for me to pay. I really hate that I gave in and gave a tip. I had never had a straight razor shave before so I didn't know how it was supposed to go. I inspected when I got home and realized, I could have done better in FAR less time by just having at home. In fact, I HAD TO RE-SHAVE AT HOME WITH A REGULAR RAZOR. I also still had shaved hairs on my face too. Didn't even properly clean up. (Not technically their fault, but in being pissed about wasting all that time and money, rushed my self-shave and gave myself pretty bad razor burn on my chin). Maybe it's only Kenyon, maybe it's just z43 doesn't know how to shave, but I will never be back for a shave.

She was great at first. I always get a high razor fade. The hair I have left, grows like a weed. So I like to keep that sh_t in control lol. I think she started to get a tad too comfortable with me after awhile because when she'd use the razor on my head..she not only shaved on the left over stubble. She took chunks of my head with her lol. After the last one, it was SO PAINFUL! I was like...ok, I'm out. I went to her because it's walking distance from my house. I ventured closer to downtown and found a new one. He was great, but again, he got too comfortable. Didn't take chunks of my head out tho. He couldn't because he charged an extra $20 for a razor fade on top of the price of the cut. Then he raised his prices and and insanely! My journey started again. A friend of mine posted pics of his cuts in his insta stories and he told me..Clippers by BSU and see Kati. She's amazing and does the best job. I was weary and only because...ugh another new barber. He was right tho. Kati is fn amazing. She does EXACTLY what I want, never messes it up, and leaves all of my scalp on my head haha! You ever meet someone and just immediately start shooting the sh_t like yall been homies for a min? I felt like that's kinda what happened when I first met Kati. I sat down and we started talking like we had known each other for more than the first 30 seconds of meeting her. Did that make sense? Y'all get what I'm saying. Kati is super personable. She's sweet as hell, is always able to hold a conversation, never a boring moment where you're sitting there like..:ugh when will this be over? We go to a barber and obviously expect a great haircut, but most of us kind of just expect to make a new friend, ya know? Ya know? lol. She gives me a fantastic fade every time and we talk the entire time. I'm so thankful I'm not bored af when I go to her haha. I get some times there are barbers where you just don't connect and that's fine. However, I mean, shouldn't there be some kind of sh_t talking, some kind of conversation, just something? Haha! I'm thankful to my buddy who recommended her. I never even knew Clippers existed until he mentioned it and mentioned Kati. A cut is $30. That's perfect. I mean, my cheap ass would be like..can I get a cut for $10 like we used to get back in the 90s? Hahaha, but these days that would 100% never happen and $30 is a decent price for a cut. Barbers who charge $45-$65 for a basic ass cut are insane...especially when they are just mediocre at it AND then they charge extra for any extra tiny little things you might want done?!! Pfft! Tf outta here haha! So if you want an amazing cut and haven't checked out Clippers yet...the hell you waiting for? Also, skip over everyone else and just book with Kati haha. You won't be disappointed. Trust me. If a barber sucks, and if you have read any of my reviews, you know I'm straight up on everything. You'll love this place and her.
