Place is alright. Definitely doesn't compare to play up in Louisville. More of a theatre people type setting if that's your thing. The dance room typically only plays electric dub step type music every time I go there which isn't my cup of tea but is for some people. Everyone is always very friendly though. read more

I'm not sure why the meh reviews - I'm trying to figure out why this place isn't more talked about in the area! My sister did a bunch of research before coming into town for my bachelorette and it didn't pop up so I'm SO glad someone recommended it to us when we were in town! There is a cover, which sucks, BUT drinks are cheapest in the area that we saw so it all evens out. The place looks a little hole in the wall-y when you first get there. Inside definitely isn't the most modern or up to date place. Tables, chairs, and bar style are stuck in the 90's but that didn't matter is was SO MUCH FUN. First of all - the shows downstairs. Each Queen does a song and then switches. I don't think we saw the same person more than a couple times, there's so much variability of songs, dances, and performances. We were screaming and having a great time the whole time. It was amazing. After, we went upstairs to dance and it was such a great time. The DJ was killin' it, we weren't approached once as a party of women, and it felt so safe and fun. The whole experience was perfect. Normally a great place, but I've heard a lot of shady things about the owner and booking performers. They also occasionally host Shiloh D Stones, who is a problematic character in his own right. Wouldn't recommend if you care about who your money is going to. read more

The Bar Complex is THE place to go out in Lexington! There are 3 bars so you can easily and quickly get a drink. There's the main bar when you walk in, the bar in the drag theater and one upstairs. Drinks are good and inexpensive compared to other bars in Lexington. We got 3 shots for only $6. I may have been inebriated, but it sounds like a deal to me. This is THE place for drag shows. They have drag shows Friday and Saturday. They usually have amateur night on Thursdays. Drag of course is fun and entertaining. Definitely check it out! The dance floor is upstairs so it is spacious! I love the nostalgic feel of it and there are mirrors everywhere so you can perform on your world tour and LIVE for yourself. Definitely come here if you're looking for a fun night out! read more

This past weekend was my first time to this bar, first off they charge a cover and it's a $10 charge to enter. So I'm expecting a great bar but after the evening was over i'm thinking Trump owns it. Went for the first time last night. $7 cover wasn't bad at all and drink prices were pretty good. Loved the sprawling setup with three bars. There was an excellent drag show and the tables were packed. Bartenders were nice. I didn't think the wait times for drinks were any worse than most bars. The dance floor upstairs is perfect, fairly lit, mirrored, huge and surrounded by carpeted bleachers. I actually don't want to be crammed onto a dance floor surrounded by grinding bodies like you might find at Soundbar- but if that's what you're looking for, try Soundbar. It was nice just to be able to dance with my party, see and talk to everyone. I wasn't going out to meet anyone but this might not be the spot if you are. There's always somewhere to sit here which I feel like merits it above a lot of places for a bar you can hang out at all night. In conclusion, if you just like to hang out, catch a show and dance with a group of friends, this place is great. read more

I loved this place!! I went for my aunt's B day I'm not a bar goer but I had so much fun. Everyone is so friendly I just loved the atmosphere. It was my first time going and didn't really know what to expect but this is a place that if my daughter wanted to go out to a bar for the first time I would take her here. During my year off from school, this was my go-to spot on the weekends. The cover (on weekends) and drinks are relatively inexpensive, the staff friendly, and the crowd diverse. The bar itself is compartmentalized into three rooms. The main bar includes booths and music videos playing on several televisions. The noise level here is moderate, which is ideal for socializing without having to shout to be heard. Through a set of doors is the drag room, where entertainers put on shows regularly. The drag show here is the most impressive Lexington has to offer. Upstairs, there is a dedicated dance floor with awesome music. No matter what you feel like doing, the Bar Complex will likely have something for you. read more

Well, this place is my muse! I basically came into my own at this place and really developed my own identity and sense of self here. Not only do the employees at this place shine (bartenders, barbacks, and drag queens alike), the buidling is a jewel not many would expect from a smaller city gay bar. I've lived in Chicago one year this month, but no gay bar has had the people or the venue to even compete with this. Sure, Boystown has probably twice the gay people (usually ones with 4x the attitude of Kentucky boys), but The Bar Complex can top any of those bars in almost any category you could throw at it(no pun/double entendre intended). Go to Brad downstairs, he's an awesome friend and also an awesome bartender (not to mention the alter ego of the fierce Sierra Reigns). Speaking of drag queens....can I just say Jenna Jive? Was the only bar I went too. For a Saturday it was empty. $5 fee to get in. But I must admit the drinks are fairly cheap under $5. The bartenders are nice and there are 2 bars. One by the entrance and the other one upstairs next to the dancing floor. There were literally like 5 people upstairs. Maybe it's just the area idk. But overall it's was a good experience. It's the best gay bar in town and probably the best dance floor (upstairs) in town too. The music can get a little too gay-bar to dance to at times, but if you shake your fist at the DJ's it'll usually improve. The bartenders are skilled and nice. There is a downstairs bar, a drag theater, an upstairs bar and big dance floor. There's a good population of both boys and girls in the place and when I go I almost always have a blast. The drag show can't compete with Connections in Louisville, but it is entertaining and fun. read more

Definitely a gem in the local gay community. Walking in was like stepping back into the Castro. Drag on Thursdays is a hell of a good time.

okay, I'm giving it 5 stars cause its most def the best in Lexington, and funny, its actually the best around. I have been out in Miami and New York, and for this venue to be in little ole Lexington KY, its more than nice and does the job. The Drag Show is good, and the queens are nice. Music is good and the people are usually great, with a mixed crowed on Saturday nights, and no cover on Thursdays! and not to mention the drinks are more than strong, in true gay fashion. Hard to find (no big signs), and NO gay pride flag combined with a "only open in the evenings, we're kinda hiding" atmosphere means meh to me. This place is sort of next door to The Kentuckian Theatre. I give it credit for being trans friendly. This isn't an early-evening place - drag shows start late. read more

The Bar as it is called was a so so experience. I was told that this was a happening place in the past. The Bar is divided into 3 sections, the drinks bar, the drag show bar and the dance floor (second floor). The staff looked like they had been there way to long. The drag queen show was disappointing. Karen's performance was not that good. The dance floor DJ was the biggest let down and few people were on the floor at all. I may give it a shot again but heard from people there that the pulse is giving this place a lot of competition. read more
