    Irish in Ireland!
    Nichole Z.

How can being in Ireland for a Notre Dame Fighting Irish game be wrong? Well... it can't. You could feel the love in the stands and the crowd was amazing. We were in the front row of the 500's and they honestly weren't awful seats. The problem comes outside of the game. There are very limited women's bathrooms. The stadium ran out of TP within the first quarter so women were sharing tissues that they had in their purses. At the end of the game I tried to throw away my paper cup and couldn't find a trash can/recycle between my section and outside the stadium (with the exception of one that was so overfull it had collapsed). Overall it was an amazing day but it's a little obvious that they may have not been prepared for this game which I find odd because soccer (football) is so popular on the other side of the pond.

Saw Taylor Swift's Eras Tour there and it was a dream! Had lower bowl seating and could see the stage perfectly! Loved that I wasn't too high up! The stadium is large, but well located by RDS. Accessible bathrooms and elevators for my partner and I were a huge help and staff was very kind! Would love to see a game or another show here.

Aviva Stadium is so beautiful! We went for the Ireland v England friendly. It was easy to find our seats and lots of options for beer. I only wish they sold merchandise as we were hoping to have a souvenir from our baby's first rugby match!

I went here for a soccer game (Ireland vs. Greece) and it was absolutely beautiful! The stadium was spotless, unlike the ones in the US. There wasn't a single piece of trash anywhere and the bathrooms were very clean and spacious. The food and alcohol selection were good, I had fish and chips (they have burgers, fries, snacks, etc). The fish was tasty but the fries had no taste. They were in need of some seasoning. Also, there wasn't any ketchup for my fries. I'm so used to the ketchup and mustard stands they have all over stadiums back home. :( As for the field and stadium itself, the field is lush and green and the architecture is breathtaking. I love how open it is! I also can't get over how nice everyone is!

We went here for it's grand old opening when Manchester United played a League of Ireland side. The journey to the stadium was uncomfortably packed, and travel away from the stadium was even worse. But I don't think this has anything to do with the stadium itself, for it, in a word, was a bedpan. Actually not, it is magnificent. But after a witty taxi driver insisted on calling it a bedpan, we couldn't but help thinking about it looking like one of those unfortunate things that nurses hate. The stadium itself was terrific. Every seat gave you a view and though I had never been in the original Lansdowne Road, I can only assume that this is much more impressive. The frustrating thing is that one side of the stadium cannot be built any further so one of the stands look like it is only got about 400 seats in it altogether. I've been in a couple of stadiums (or is it stadia?) around the world as football is something of a passion of mine. The Allianz in Munich is the most stunning from the outside, Old Trafford is the most stunning from the inside. The Aviva, though it will never be as big or as beautiful as the Theatre of Dreams, it is still a fantastic and hugely impressive stadium which if only they could sort out the travel to and from it, would see it become the home of some great nights in football.

After witnessing a Six Nations defeat here today at the hands of England, the only positive thing that I can take away with me is that I really am a fan of this venue! The all-round architecture adds a very "modern" feel to Dublin. Getting into it has never been a hassle either, helpful staff on every corner pretty much guide you from the train station to your seat despite the hive of multiple entrances. Staff just seem very down to earth. Even the Hot Dog guy was strolling around in the wind and rain in such a happy and positive manner! The upkeep inside must be complimented also, always seems clean and well presented. Somebody's gotta clean up after 50,000 people right? Good work folks!! Beer and food, a little stale and marginally overpriced and this is my one and only reason for taking a star out of a full house rating but I've come here a couple of times now and always a great atmosphere no matter what the seats, weather, or the opposing supporters around you. Never seems to disappoint

This stadium is phenomenal. I've been to a few Ireland Rugby games here and although I was sitting quite high up, (scared of heights? me? Never.) I didn't mind too much. I recently went out to the Aviva for Vape Fest 2015 and luckily, got the use the lift up to the event, which meant I had a magnificent view of the entire, empty stadium. There's nothing quite like it. It's just beautiful.

This stadium is obviously being built in the bubble theme as seen in the swimming pool at the Beijing Olympics. Our giant bubble building is not a cloud of bubbles but one huge, glistening soap bubble being blown through a plastic hoop, curving, wobbling and billowing over Lansdowne Road in an incredibly dramatic way. Is it in any way necessary though, I mean, what the heck is wrong with Croker, it's giant and Dublin is tiny, my simplistic, adjective-based mathematics suggest that stadium needs are fulfilled entirely. Plus, one thing nobody has mentioned yet ... the name! What is it with the name, 'Aviva Healthcare and Insurance Solutions Incorporated Central Marketing Division Building' doesn't really roll of the tongue. I think we should just bite the bullet, keep the English sports in Croke Park and turn the whole thing into a giant McDonald's.

The other, and main, reason is that they don't actually own much land on the far side and therefore can't build a second stand. Damned Tennis Court! The exterior of this futuristic concrete structure is draped with ginormous action portraits of Leinster idols like Leo Cullen or Brian 'BOD' O'Driscoll. Irish rugby has been so ludicrously successful in recent times that burgeoning crowds were causing the old venue to almost burst at the seams when a popular fixture came to town. As they cannot get hold of the adjacent properties, Stand #2 is nowhere on the horizon, and seeing as the really, really big dates like Leinster vs. Munster are held in Croke Park, and shortly, at the new Lansdowne Road, there may actually be no need for one The much harangued and ridiculed Senior and Junior School's Rugby Cup matches are held in Donnybrook each year too. These events are like clinical research into the herd-mentality and see hundreds of uniformed young males descend into an uproarious fervour of animalistic school pride. Definitely worth a look-see, as I don't think you'll find school spirit as powerful as this anywhere else this side of the Atlantic.

The RDS has also become the adopted home of Leinster Rugby, as Donnybrook can no longer satisfy the demand for tickets. I was at the Leinster-Ulster game on St. Stephens Day, and I have to say it was the most atmosphere-free match of anything I've ever attended. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the fans or the stadium itself but, for me, watching sports should involve a bit of shouting. There were no songs to be sung, and the closest we came to straining our voices were the rare drones of "Leinster, Leinster, Leinster". It was all a bit crap really, and massively at odds with the last four games I've attended-which were all at Croker(Dublin/West-Meath, Ireland/Italy, Ireland/Montenegro, Ireland/France).

There are stand for this pitch, which you may have seen as Setanta Sports have broadcasted some club games from here before. These pitches are also used for soccer. You regularly see people of all ages playing five a side soccer on the sand. There is a new rugby and gaelic pitch, and athletics track as well as a fully equiped gym and quite a few basketball/volleyball/badminton courts. There is even rock climbing. Above these facilities is the SPorts Cafe which serves nutricious food for the athletes The university is of course primarily for education. The lecture halls and facilities are top notch, everything was very modern and pristine and they have a lot of eateries on campus and nice greenery for students to relax. It was my first choice on my CAO form which I unfortunately did not get so I can't comment on the educational aspect, but I have friends who go here/ went here who have said many good things about it. But apparently you can take elective modules and do extra classes and earn credits from it, something which is not available at my college but would love to have. It also seems a lot more student focused. The only downside is the location; it's pretty far out, but it's in a nice area of Dublin. It's just getting to and from there if you live in the city centre can be quite annoying. But overall, it seems like a great place to be a student.

Naturally enough, all sense of romance is immediately abandoned upon stepping onto the ice in your fairly uncomfortable skates, and thoughts quickly turn to matters of a more survival-based nature. It would be great not to fall. Still having ten fingers at the end of this would be a result. And when you inevitably fall and release yourself to the rush of shame: it would be great not to have broken anything. And even if you have broken something, you suspect that you won't know till later as the sheer adrenaline-rush fuelled will not to be seen to have broken anything may actually carry you still skating off the rink. It's a wonder all things considered we return year on year to put ourselves through it again. I'm a survivor though and I still haven't broken a bone. And every year shows a small but definite improvement such that I haven't lost hope that one day, when I'm old, I'll be able to do that backward glide thing. or that knee bent spin thing. That's romance for you. And somehow the fiction mixed with the reality all amount to plain good fun. I've heard tell that the rink at the Point Depot (yeah I know it's not called that still, but it keeps changing its name a la corporate every five minutes so I'm reverting and I encourage you to do the same) has special things adults can hold on to (and I'm not talking about the sides of the rink) - the RDS only provides these for small kids - which make the risk of falling a whole lot less, so this might be a better option for those new to it. On the plus side, here you have outdoor rides, Funderland a few paces away (so rob a bank first), and all the junk food you can shake a pretzel at within easy reach. Book online to save queueing, come early to get skates, and be first off the rink if you don't want to wait 20 minutes to get your shoes at the end of the session.

Of course, financing a grand day out can be steep...prices for peak hours (all day Friday, weekends and holidays) start at €14 per adult. Also, much to my disappointment, sessions last only an hour -barely enough time to get those ankles straight and triple lutzes polished. Note: dress in layers.
