    U2 playing 3Arena.
    Karla D.

Saw U2 here and it was the first time they played their hometown in 26 years or so. Talk about bucket list, this indeed was it. The sound was impeccable and the arena layout is that of any concert venue in its category. Of course drinks and food were astronomically priced but at the same time I'm not one to attend a concert to eat and drink. I'm there for the performance. To see a band as incredible as U2 and might I add my all-time favourite band in their hometown was truly a dream come true. Though I didn't have to deal with being on queue, it seemed to move quickly for those who did. In addition, the arena is one of the cleanest I've seen. Even the bathrooms were near spotless with thousands of patrons stomping through.

A far cry from the grotty (and beloved) Point depot. The O2 is a great venue for gigs of any sort, I've been to comedy, theatre and music events here and it works every time. Having the luas red line stop right outside is a godsend, the sort of facility a proper city would have!! Right, that's enough for now, i`m off to rock out to the melodic tunings of Def leppard and Alice Cooper this eve.... ...and that was last night, this morn my ear drums are shot to hell and it was worth every bit of it. Nothing funnier than being (and watching) middle-aged rockers try to recapture a bit of their youth while sipping a glass of Sauv Blanc and commenting on how clean the toilets are.

I honestly can't believe how much this place has changed since the Point Depot. Not having lived in Ireland for quite a few years, going to the O2 last night was nothing short of a revelation. How things have changed!! This is a top notch venue, one we as Irish should be immensely proud of. Last year, it was actually the fifth best attended venue in world - even beating world-famous venues like Madison Square Gardens in New York! So what makes this venue so freaking good?! Firstly, I swear you can actually see the stage from anywhere on the floor. Being a small fry, I'm constantly struggling to see anything at gigs. (Why do all the 6fters always end up in front of me?!!) Now, don't get me wrong, it's no Brixton Academy (sloped floor!!! SLOPED!!! Is that the best idea ever?!! Why all venues don't do this, I'll never understand!), but it is excellently laid out and spot-on for small-fry visuals. Secondly, they've got some serious sound and lighting set up here. Really really fantastic quality. There's also no major queues for toilets as there are so many, and there are three bars on the main floor (with loads more on the other levels) so you don't have to wait to long for a bit of liquid refreshment (although it is a tad on the pricey side, I wouldn't be goin too crazy with the booze in there!) The face-lift on the venue itself has really rejuvenated the hold warehouse-looking space into a really beautiful piece of architecture - a perfect mix of modern / funky, with the old stone in the original building. All in all, it's an absolutely deadly spot. (Deadly as in good - for all those non-Irish out there!)

Fabulous venue and very organized. Food is average and expensive as you would expect at a place like this. The ambience is great and there was plenty of staff around to manage the crowds. Would come back here anytime for a concert or other events :-)

To anyone who was at the old Point Depot and who hasn't been at the O2: rest assured, the O2 is waaayy better than the Point. The Point was so named as it was constructed in an old railway depot, and as such was shaped like a big long and narrow shed, which is essentially what it was. This made for kind of shitty acoustics and if you were anywhere near the back, just forget about it, you're weren't really able to see anything. The new O2 is a building that was specifically designed for the listening of music, so there's something for a start. The new building is narrow and short, with the standing area below and tiered seating in a sort of amphitheater shape above. It was in these seats (the Audi Club, don'cha know) that I saw Bob Dylan a few weeks ago, and we were so close to the stage that I could almost count the wrinkles on his wizened forehead. The acoustics were pretty top-notch too. Located only a few minutes walk from town so punters can avail of public transport to get there and back, the O2 is very convenient to get to. All in all, a nice concert venue.

My first gig in the new 02 last night, the former point depot has come along way from barn like point depot. The O2 is really impressive and its new look seems to be stripped down Industrial meets airport terminal. As Cathal says the new around the area is long and narrow with the main concert hall in high and amphitheatre like, with everyone getting a view and depending on the gig as seat. Was there to see Leonard Cohen and aside from the fact that the man is a legend, what a showman, the sound and atmosphere were great. Theres toilets and bars with overpriced drinks a plenty too and the venue itself is well run and managed to get 11,000 people out of the venue and out into the Dublin evening safely and with minimum fuss.

I've been to the 02 twice now and I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with something. First, I went to Girls Aloud which was fully seated and the venue looked amazing. We walked in - no crazy queues going through a maze of fences, you simply walked up to the door, scanned your tickets and in you go. We were greeted by the super helpful and really friendly o2 angels who happily brought us to our seats. One bad thing was that I hated their outfits - particularly the girls. But their enthusiasm made up for that! The way they have laid the venue out means you'd be hard pushed to have a bad seat. We were close to the middle and to the right of the stage, but it felt like we were in the front row. I can't recommend it enough!

I've been to the 3arena many a time over the past few years! I've experienced bands while seating and standing and have literally attended over a dozen concerts here. It's a pretty fantastic venue but I would agree with other yelpers that there is an issue with being able to see some bands while standing. I would consider myself slightly vertically challenged so this has been an issue on numerous occasions! Another major issue would be the venue price of booze. Two pints for €13.00. Pretty intense. Lastly the security is alright but not the best. I've seen a lot of people smoking indoors and what not and when I brought my sister to a one direction concert there (my eardrums are still recovering) there were people being crushed and pushed against railings so at one point the music was stopped. The size of the venue along with the great sound system, good seating options where you can see everything clearly ad massive screens save it though and is why I'm awarding 3 out of 5

The O2 is a high quality entertainment venue. I saw New Kids on the Block there a couple of months ago and was very impressed. (By the venue, not so much by NKOTB. Grin). The O2 is easy to get to. There's no parking but there are shuttle buses from St. Stephen's Green and Connolly station, or it's a short walk or cab ride from the city centre. The drink prices are lower than you would think, and there isn't a bad seat in the place. The acoustics are impressive too. Cabs can be hard to find after everyone pours out of the place. Walk round the corner onto East Wall Road, then down to Upper Sherriff Street and down there a bit and you should have no problems. In such a great venue, even Donnie Wahlberg with his shirt off isn't too hard to take!

I was at the Leinster-Ulster game on St. Stephens Day, and I have to say it was the most atmosphere-free match of anything I've ever attended. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the fans or the stadium itself but, for me, watching sports should involve a bit of shouting. There were no songs to be sung, and the closest we came to straining our voices were the rare drones of "Leinster, Leinster, Leinster". It was all a bit crap really, and massively at odds with the last four games I've attended-which were all at Croker(Dublin/West-Meath, Ireland/Italy, Ireland/Montenegro, Ireland/France).
