The hall is packed with stands and happily glugging punters... not uncomfortably so and the vibe is good. Of course it helps enormously if you are granted a tour of the stands by a noted beer blogger who knows EVERYONE and can point you in the direction of the very best booze the festival has to offer, but even if you are not so fortunate, it would still be a great if not very filling and slightly wobbly experience. To compliment the 2,000 beers on display and to taste (half a pint is about €3/one token) there is a small food area out the back serving up curries and pizza and hot dogs and other delights... it is nothing short of Mecca for the beery inclined. The venue itself is quite impressive - a large spherical structure with grand old architecture and those gorgeous red curtains... I was particularly impressed to discover they have a ladies' powder room - how very 1940s! It was obviously constructed in the days before the population took a turn for the obese, for the staircases are rather narrow and do not easily accommodate two modern 'normal' sized women. Scary sign of the times, huh?!? Many great bands have performed here over the past few years, including Vampire Weekend, The Hives, Franz Ferdinand and Amy Winehouse. Additionally, the Bodies Exhibition has just finished a very well-received six month residency at the Ambassador. Hmmm wonder what's coming up next??

The staff were all really sound and informative, despite us not coming in until the absolute last minute of entries. The theatre is definitely aging, but it seems fairly clean and reasonably well kept together. The ladies bathrooms show the age, but they were clean! They're also down a stairs of their own, which was a little creepy in the empty theatre! The exhibition, I suppose, is not really what we are reviewing here, but it was just excellent. Just the right amount of interesting and unnerving.

It makes you feel like you need to whisper... *hush* Upstairs is a different crowd altogether - an intimate bar with big windows, perfect for people watching in Temple Bar. Small but good selection of beer too, my mates enjoyed a Brooklyn beer while I guzzled back a glass of crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Note however the bar will be closed for the time a show is going on upstairs so plan your visit accordingly!

It's well worth keeping an eye out for what goes on here, some small but interesting productions pop up from time to time. A considerable part of their programme is offered for free. Like other people said, the entrance feels a bit uninviting for some reason - is it that you're immediately faced with the reception desk, their gatekeeper? Or the tables to the side, surrounded by books, where a lot of times a sort of private lecture seems to be going on? Whatever it is, don't be put off by it, the members of staff are quite nice. I can attest to the versatility of the different rooms, as they are completely transformed to better suit whatever they're hosting. One month there's a huge installation making use most of the space and the next you have a stage and rows of theatre seats. There's a small café too, and the area by the big windows upstairs, overlooking the street and bathed by its light, is a good place to sit and relax for a while, a lot more relaxing than the tables downstairs.

This place is Ireland's largest purpose built arts centre. More than 50,000 a year come to this arts space to enjoy drama, music, comedy and dance performances. Thousands more visit the two exhibition galleries that feature the works of national and international artists. There is a bar and a cafe here too for all your interval needs. Overall this really is a great arts space and one that is well used and well needed.

Anyway the theatre is a nice intimate size with moderately comfortable seats and every one of them has an excellent view of the stage. The stepped design means no one should be able to block your view unless they are incredibly tall or wearing obnoxious head apparel. There is a little bar/restaurant area and the whole thing is relaxed and makes for an enjoyable experience.

Beautifully done- but also with some brilliant humor scattered here and there. It was a tour de force- and all the actors were superb. And there isn't a bad seat in the house! The president of Ireland came to our performance (he sat just a few seats behind us)- and it was lovely to see him and to stand an applaud. It was a completely magical evening.

I came early and was upgraded free of charge from the absolute back to the absolute front, huge thanks to the ticketing staff. Naturally, the tickets being free, we assumed it would be shit and spent the day wandering around all the brilliant, equally free, street performances. How wrong we were. Strolling in with two songs left we found the band on the dancefloor, the crowd on stage, the walls heaving and everyone getting down in a frenzy of funky. It's a funny feeling, knowing you probably just missed the best gig you'll ever attend. Still, they were a great two songs.

I used to volunteer there for a year or so as usher and got to see the broad variety. It's a mix of music, theatre, talks from either international renowned artists, irish art and local schools. I always found the standard very good and was never disappointed. On Mondays they use it as a cinema with mainly rather unusual, non-mainstream movies.
