You'll love the lights, the music, and the happy hour for sure. Karaoke on Thursday starts between 9:30 and 10pm. For now - perhaps because it's summer, perhaps because it's a new venue - it draws a really fantastic hostel crowd. You know who I'm talking about: young, fun, upbeat kids on vacation who don't take themselves seriously and just want to have a good time with you. You don't have to wait for years for your turn to sing, and no one is judging your voice because they're too busy dancing. Although it's hard to beat $2 tacos and $3 Jameson, something I love even more is the hallway with the selfie wall on the left and the chalkboard on the right. Tag yourself in photos taken in funky mirrors (hello, new profile pic!) and then draw a silly picture on the chalkboard. The chalkboard is such a fun way to interact with your fellow patrons! What a stroke of brilliance on the owner's part. Speaking of the owner, she is sweet, funny, and warm. The place gets busy on Thursdays with all the karaoke stars, but I still didn't have to wait for a drink all night, and she even got engaged in peoples' performances. She cares about her patrons and clearly wants them to have a good time because she takes pride in her work and her business, not just because she wants their money. There really is that Cheers vibe going on. I felt like I could dance and let loose and be silly, like I was among friends.

So we took to our trusty Yelp apps to figure out where the place to be was and came across this general area. After about an hour of wandering around and seeing only a) high covers, b) expensive drinks, and c) bad music being blasted from overcrowded semi-clubs, we were just about to call it a night when I realized we were near this gem. We ended up walking right past it with our noses in our phones, but the owner (who strategically was hanging out on the sidewalk out front) asked us where we were looking for and sent us up the steep flight of stairs with a smile and promise that her bartender would hook us up. After the stairs - which, granted, may be slightly tricky if you're a tad intoxicated - we were greeted warmly by a cozy bar/club with amazing music playing and very few people. We headed up to the bar and befriended the bartender (I want to say her name was Ciara... she was great, give her a raise!) who hooked us up with awesome drinks. We ended up staying here awhile, if only because it wasn't too crowded and the staff was so friendly! No cover, reasonably priced drinks, and awesome service?! It's everything you could want in a bar. After we headed downstairs, we ran into the owner again who we spent a good half hour with ranting and raving about the music selection and the quality of her bar. She was by far one of the most down to earth and nicest business owners I've encountered and I hope only good things come this place - I know I'll be back the next time I'm in Philly!

The burger at the venue is typically served with cheese. No biggie, I thought, just don't put cheese on one. I asked for it without. The lady at the register said she would need to grab a manager because it comes with cheese on it. The manager informed me that she would see what she could do because the grill person was in a mood. The feeling I got was that this would inconvenience the griller. She came back, told me she had taken care of it but that it would be a bit longer of a wait. About seven minutes later I had the burger in hand and it was so good! I made my way to the lawn to see the show and it was only then that I realized that my not arriving early and dilly dallying with food had created a huge issue. I couldn't actually see the band easily from any of the remaining spots. My wife and I squeezed into a spot that allowed me to bounce between the stage and the huge tv screen but she had to rely solely on the tv screen to see the show. Considering what tickets cost, I was a bit annoyed that a concert venue would have such poor sightlines. It's not all annoying. The Skyline Stage is cool because it is outdoors and has a great view of the city. The sound and ambiance are incredible. But, because of the poor sightlines, I probably won't return here for another show.

Derek completely changed the start of our day. He was such a kind soul, incredibly friendly, brought us chairs, checked on us, and genuinely cared that we were comfortable and were going to have a great experience. That kind of positive attitude at 6 AM says a lot about a person. Derek made us feel taken care of before the concert experience had even really begun. He is exactly the kind of manager you want representing your venue and setting the example for his team. Such a great way to start what ended up being an amazing concert experience.

It's been a long time since I've been to a concert, and what I experienced at Tash Sultana's show was unlike anything I've ever witnessed before. Drums. Guitar. Saxophone. Flute. Bells and sooo much more. Vocals that soared from whispers to powerful crescendos. Every instrument seemed like an extension of Tash, and every note felt intentional. People often say music is healing, music is therapy, music is universal. Last night, I felt that. Not just heard it--felt it. The audience wasn't there just to watch a performance. We were there to witness artistry. To share a moment of connection through rhythm, sound, and frequency. For a few hours, strangers were a community united by music/frequency. The team at the Fillmore made the experience even better. From security and "Jay" at coat/merch check, "Meghan" Guest Services, "Bob" food & beverage service (Card Only). I enjoyed my "Vegan" Burger and the refreshing Wildberry beverage in a commemorative Filmore cup. Thank you for the recommendation, Blithe. "Steve" provided kind seating assistance upstairs. Everyone we encountered was welcoming and helpful. Those small acts of kindness matter and should be acknowledged and are very much appreciated. And to Tash--thank you. Thank you for sharing your gifts so generously. Thank you for creating a space where people could simply be present, breathe, feel, and reconnect with themselves. I've traveled through a lot in life, but last night reminded me why "live music matters". Some concerts entertain you. Some concerts remind you who you are. Somewhere along the way, my son and I became known as "the cake people." If you know, you know. If you haven't experienced Tash Sultana yet, do yourself a favor: Tune in. It's located next to Heffe tacos and the food menu comes from there though you can order with your tab thankfully since otherwise heffe is cash only. My friends enjoyed their food, getting tacos and empanadas. My drink was tasty, it was a frozen margarita made without alcohol (essentially a frozen limeade slushy) and I understood it might come at the same price as the regular (it did). I would love it if they had a menu item specifically called out as a mocktail even for a dollar or two cheaper like many restaurants but I get it. The music kept dying out with the bluetooth speaker system they had going. It was a little loud at times but we were sitting right next to it. The DJ left when we came, so maybe that's a fun addition, wouldn't really know though. Unfortunately (and it was possibly our own mistake) we did end up accidentally double tipping (40%) so it was pretty expensive for this and a water bottle. My part of the bill came up to 22.40$ for the frozen marg ($13)+ water bottle ($3) + our accidental double gratuity. They do have automatic gratuity of 20% which I support, just make sure you really read the bill when they come around with the card reader you make sure the math adds up. We did feel comfortable hanging out for a while though considering all that. The vibe of it is cute, and we had a pleasant time underneath the canopy of the tree while it drizzled, they did move all our tables and chairs after they offered us better seating for a better vibe. The string lights are always nice. I might not visit again considering the other options around here but I can see how it's a great addition to the neighborhood and how friendly all the staff were. I'll check back on other yelpers experience though! They are still testing out the menu so it sounded like they were trying a couple different kinds of drinks, so maybe if you're here in the next week or so after their weekend grand opening check if there's anything off the menu.

She was super friendly and personable.... Unfortunately, we went back today for Labor Day and it was almost embarrassing.
