Roy the person in charge quoted me $10000.00 to do the modifications on my car. Needless to say I…read morewas presented a bill for $16000.00 . The car would barely run, I had to take the car to another shop to have further work done that cost another $1000.00. The second shop found the timing to be incorrect the fuel line was run through the frame with no attachments to hold it tight, that could have been a dangerous situation. The new gauges Roy installed were not accurate and when I asked about the mismatch on the paint work Roy quoted it's close. While the car was in Roys custody there were 14 gallons of fuel missing from the car which Roy denied. Stay away

To say that my experience at Columbia Classics in Winthrop, Maine was exhausting, frustrating, and…read moreamazingly expensive would be an understatement. We were referred to this business by an employee at the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine. We own a 1970 Karmann Ghia convertible, of which we are the original owners. After texting and phoning the owner of Columbia Classics, Roy, we felt comfortable with placing the restoration of our car in his hands. We left our car with Roy in Winthrop, Maine in October, 2016. The agreed upon timeframe called for completion by April 15, 2017, with a budget limit of $10,000. We finally retrieved our car mid-May 2017. Where to begin: presently the car often stalls, often runs on after shut off, the new top is a bear to get up and down, I get slammed in the back by the door repeatedly because the mechanic "forgot" to order the stops on the door hinges. To summarize, the car neither runs, looks, or drives, as one might hope after receiving a bill for $18,000. The owner will have excuse after excuse, story after story, tale after tale, but in the end, my advice is to stay away from this business.
