I had a pleasantly surprising experience earlier this month at the VIP Tires & Service in Augusta…read more I took our 2010 Mazda Tribute in for brake work because the pedal was behaving oddly after a hard stop (when a pedestrian jumped off the curb in front of me). VIP's diagnosis was that the master cylinder and power booster were defunct and needed replacement. These repairs were made and I retrieved the car. It was a hefty bill but par for the course. Keeping an otherwise good older car on the road is a lot less expensive than replacing it. Shortly afterwards, I noticed the brakes were still acting the same as before--soft pedal, longer push. I took the car back to VIP for further diagnosis. The surprise was when the service rep informed me what they had found: The antilock braking system (ABS) had failed and needed replacement. What made the surprise pleasant was that, because they'd missed this fault in their original diagnosis, VIP was going to obtain and install the new ABS unit free of charge--saving me a couple of grand for part and labor. Wow. I call that owning your profession. Fair is fair, and I will continue bringing our vehicles to VIP when they need service.

So my car was in VIP for a routine state inspection, and they called me in gravely to show me…read moresomething about it. Supposedly one tire was sticky, not rotating properly. It had been driving fine. I couldn't see anything wrong. I had this sinking feeling, and worried about greedy mechanics conning a gullible vehicle owner into unnecessary work to get the sticker. Nope! That's not what happened! They did half an hour of extra work to fix the problem, and still charged me just $12.50, and stickered it. Takeaway: professionalism, generosity, great service. Yay VIP!

-First off, I originally went here to bring in my boyfriends car for a repair while he was at work…read more I waited for a very long time for them to do a basic tire change- as it turns out, they had finished much earlier but apparently forgot I was there! I wasn't clued into this until my boyfriend texted me from work and told me they called him to tell him the tire change was done. What the hell? -Secondly, They talk crap about customers who come in right in front of other customers, right behind the counter. -I brought my own car in a few times, and was told it passed inspection but would need new brakes ASAP. This was in April and it is now July. I have had zero issues with my brakes- no squealing, no stopping issues, etc. I decided to give them one more chance (They are the closest auto repair shop to me and more convenient) and went in for a basic oil change. When I initially went to see them for the same maintenance it was a total of $60. This last time it was $100! This was for just a regular oil change. I asked why such a large cost increase and the worker told me oil has gotten more expensive everywhere, which after speaking with friends/relatives I know this to be untrue. I will not be coming back here for anything.

My vehicle had steering box and other repairs done. I had to bring it back as there was fluid…read moreleaking wherever I parked. I was told only Master Mechanic who did the work would fix. I was told leaking was hoses and the groaning from engine was the belt and pulleys that needed cleaning and adjusting. I am back at VIP as the leaking is now worse and the groaning is very concerning. I was told it could not be looked at today but could be on Monday. I understand being short staffed and scheduling is an issue, but when a customers vehicle has to be left for previous repairs that are failing, it makes the situation untenable. I chose VIP based upon AAA endorsement and referral plus the Veterans discount. I know there was a change in management at this Farmingdale location and the service being received is nothing like I received with the previous management team.
