This was my favorite hotel experience of my entire trip, and I recommend staying here if you're staying in Santa Rosa! The Astro is a newly remodeled and modern motel, with a distinctly retro space theme. The rooms are on two levels in multiple buildings around a courtyard that's landscaped and has a fire pit for weekend hangouts. Check in was a breeze and the attendant was super welcoming. The complex has a lounge and meal area, a cool local artwork vending machine is outside near the ice machines. The rooms had eclectic furniture with all modern fixtures including the bathroom and sink area. They also have a huge wine fridge, which is a necessity if exploring the wineries in this area. The hotel was very quiet, even more so being next to a beautiful park. It's walking distance from downtown, the river pathways, gardens, historical sites, breweries, and restaurants. Room rates are fair for the area.

The Astro is out of this world! My husband & I recently stayed here for 2 nights as our home base for exploring Sonoma County and the Sonoma Coast for his birthday before heading further north to go ziplining. What they've done to this property over the past several years is something quite special and otherworldly! Sorry, the puns keep coming to me lol! ;) It's giving "The Jetsons" mixed with an urban, artsy & maybe even a little hipster vibe...pretty unique if you ask me! Not only is their location convenient and walking distance to many cafes, restaurants and downtown Santa Rosa, but it's also situated directly across the street from a lovely neighborhood park called Juilliard Park that we loved taking a walk through in the morning or early evening. Love biking/cycling? They have Shinola bikes available to rent, or if you bring your own bikes, they have a storage facility and even an on-site bike repair station! We're definitely going to take advantage of that the next time we stay here (which will be soon - we actually just booked another stay here!). The breakfast provided for guests was unexpected and awesome! Being vegan/plant-based, there were several things we couldn't partake in like the yogurt, pastries/donuts, etc, but we loved the fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and the Spinster Sisters Granola (incredible!). The breakfast is served in their guest lounge, which in itself is another cool little place for guests to chill & hang out. They've got board games, vintage furniture & decor, and even music! Room details: comfy bed, great rain shower head (!), clean (except for a big dirt spot or stain on the top sheet which we just avoided), unique mid-century decor & furniture (there are no 2 rooms exactly alike), good-sized mini fridge to store some food with a few optional drinks and snacks for purchase, and nice view of the central garden and courtyard area. Speaking of which has fire pits, Cornhole games, fruit trees and various plants, local art sculptures, and lots of places to sit and relax. The gentleman who was working in the office the morning we checked out (6/24/24) was incredibly friendly and kind (thank you and sorry I forgot your name!). We truly were over the moon and had a stellar stay at The Astro!

This Motel is nothing short of amazing. We loved the vintage MCM furniture in the room. We loved the feel of being immersed in a time capsule of motels of days gone by. We loved the friendly staff. We loved the coffee and granola in the morning lounge. The Astro is a must stay if you're nostalgic for a time that doesn't exist anymore, but that also brings it up to 21st century standards. Great place!

I booked one night at The Astro through booking.com the night before my trip and got a great rate. ($128 total) I arrived early in the day and was trying to pass some time but it was a hot one so I called to ask if I could check in a bit early (an hour early). I spoke to Bob and he said no problem. Come on over. Bob is the best! Very charming and made me feel welcome. He also walked me to my room to showed me around. I love mid-century style so the decor and design was totally up my alley. My room (#217) was super clean and I was very impressed. I was able to fill up my water bottle in the lounge and the next morning I also grabbed breakfast there as well. I had coffee, yogurt (Clover!) and a donut. They also had some fresh fruit. I was very happy with my stay and would totally stay again.

    Original bill

Really great to really bad. First the really bad. Received checkout pdf. Opening it I found my bill increased by $16.35. I also noticed a "donation " which looking back to my booking email was on the original reservation but didn't notice. Called the hotel and asked why my bill went up and after checking - they couldn't tell me why. The "donation" to SRUAP was only $7.41. But I expect to be asked if I want to donate and told what organization I'm donating too - not just find it on my bill. Still don't know what SRUAP is. Both were refunded to my credit card. I emailed the manager about another issue and in my second email asked about the billing. I've given the manager several days to address this and the manager hasn't respond to that email. So were these charges an error or do they increase everyone's bill to make extra and reimburse if caught? If they fill 5 rooms a night = 35 rooms a week and overcharge each $10.00 = 350.00 week or 1,400 a month. $16,800 a year. Adds up nicely. My other issue is the lounge microwave they advertise. During my stay they gave it to another customer for a day. Long story short there was another micro in another locked building I had to track someone down to use. When the micro was being returned to the lounge I asked to have it in my room. I was told no. So I asked why the other customer could have it in their room and I couldn't as I paid full price for my room. The gal in the office just looked at me. Because - there is no answer. If you read through negative reviews you will find a common theme of personnel problems. My first email to the manager was about the microwave issue. Instead of offering a rebate on my stay she offered a 20% on my next stay. I emailed she should make it right by rebating my last stay, the stay that went wrong. She never emailed me back. The good. The remodel on the hotel, rooms, lounge and grounds are excellent. Somewhat a drawback the parking lot is very small and I wouldn't have wanted to park in the area around the hotel. The outside lighting is very bright. The windows only have wood shutters. I could make out the detail on the artwork on the wall with the interior lights off. If you're interested in retro hotels I recommend The Orbit in Palm Springs CA $$$ or The Foothills $$ in Auburn CA. Both have stellar employees.

Lovely hip 50s motel, remodeled with exceptional flair with a beautiful courtyard sculpture garden. Great central neighborhood allowed my wife and I a morning walk through Juilliard Park and the Luther Burbank gardens, just across the street. Included breakfast was not the usual cheap danishes but fresh-baked delights from a neighborhood bakery, along with artisan granola and great berries. (Coffee wasn't my favorite. I never say this, but I found it brewed a hair too strong. Literally my only grouse.) Parking is just a bit awkward, but the price was more than fair for Wine Country and we were just pleased as could be with our stay.

I love an artsy motel with a story! The mid century deco and vintage furniture are a nice touch. Stay was very comfortable. Friendly staff. Loved the breakfast setup of yogurt, yummy granola, fruit, coffee & tea provided. Onsite parking included that felt safe. Great merch for sale in the lobby! Walkable food nearby and short drive to the downtown area, museum, spas and vineyards. Comfy Casper bed!!!

Stayed here for a night while visiting Santa Rosa, pleasantly surprised about the cuteness of the hotel and interior furniture. Mid century modern style (so millennial, yeah). For the note, if you like any item in your room/outside, you can order them from their website. It was quite a decent hotel with many closeby attractions. I'd consider here again if I visit Santa Rosa.

I stayed at the Astro the weekend because I was in town for the Santa Rosa marathon. I only stayed one night, but it was a pleasant stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, letting me book a late check out without a hassle. The parking lots were very tight, but I was able to find a spot in the overflow lot. The motel itself was very cute and I the bed was so comfortable! The courtyard was lovely and had so much character. They also had this cool vending machine with all kinds of funky stuff in it. The breakfast pastries were amazing in the morning on Saturday morning, I wish I could eat it all over again! It was a little pricey for what it is, but I can't wait to come back again!

Rooms are old and dont smell great. There were also some unsavory type guests staying in some neighboring rooms. I got he feeling this may be a popular place for unhoused people to stay when they get enough money together for a room. Our next door neighbor was clearly on drugs and came outside and glared at us and slammed his door each time we went to our car. Very odd and a bit unsettling. Bottom line, this hotel is just too inexpensive to be a safe place to stay. I'll just pay $20 more p night and stay in a Hampton Inn or Garden Inn as opposed to this location.

The weekend we stayed was a busy one, so the property was mostly occupied. The staff was moving as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Upon check-in, which was an hour late beyond check-in time, we had to store our luggage with the front desk. We were hoping to get in on time so we could freshen up before our wine tasting but we just used the lobby bathroom. When we got back from lunch, we get to our one-bedroom suite, which is the Sonoma Garden Suite. The room is super nice and spacious room with a full patio (see photos); it easily fits 4-5 (two full beds and one couch). But we had one problem....the room was soooo hot...mind you, we went on a hot weekend. We called for service and they send the engineer to look at our AC unit twice. Air was blowing, but it was warm air. At this point, we decided we cannot stay in this room, and I asked the front desk what can be done. They said they could move us to another room. I asked for TWO rooms bc technically, the suite we had was a room made for 4+ people and I booked it for the sole factor being we had lots of extra space (800+ SF). After a little back and forth, the young lady at the front desk said there was nothing they could do bc they only had ONE room. Then the front desk manager Eddie Huang stepped in and said they will try to fix the AC one more time when my group and I were out to dinner. Before leaving, I asked in the event the AC is NOT fixed, what are our options. He said they would figure that out when I got back, but I told him I didn't want to deal with this after a later dinner; I would rather have some kind of backup plan as the two first visits from the engineer did not result in anything. I left slightly annoyed, bc although I was reassured they would make it right, there was no clear plan. We left for dinner, came back to the room, changed, and made the decision that we needed to get out of this room ASAP. Luckily two of the gals were able to deal with the air, but two of us could not. So, we marched to the front desk and front desk manager Eddie was still there. He said he has taken the necessary steps to move us into TWO rooms and that they are ready now. Told him we only needed one room since the other two guests were ok with staying where they were. The next morning, we checked out and Eddie was there again, said he reimbursed us all our points, and took care of the resort/parking fee as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I know sometimes the staff can only do so much, especially given it was a busy weekend, but I have to say the two times I've been here, the staff was very nice and keep their cool. Patrons can be unruly so a high-five to them for dealing with the complaints. This property remains one of the nicer ones and is within walking distance of so many good eats. I would go back again and hopefully try to make use of that nice patio in that suite I booked.

This particular hotel is decent and located right in a historic downtown Santa Rosa. The young girl who checked us in was great, very helpful and friendly too. The property has different buildings, the main building where we checked in and their gated building, which is slightly newer, though still very old and dated. Our room was somewhat comfy. The bed was just ok for a nice night's sleep, but one of us woke up each morning with a sore back from the softness of that side of the bed. The fixtures in the bathroom were very dated with gold faucets and towel holders, dark green marble tile, and very old layout/design. The room as a whole wasn't very symmetrical and put together cohesively. It was poorly lit and had an analog (dial type) thermostat which controlled a very loud HVAC system. The windows were single pane and let all the sound from outside in, so we heard all the various trash trucks, delivery trucks, loud vehicles, trains, etc that went by all day and night. Housekeeping did a decent job, but the towels were on the thin side. There was no fridge in the room. Parking was somewhat nearby, across the street in a private lot. Like I said, it's close to everything in the area, either walkable or central via car to drive to. Would I stay here again? Nope. At least not until they refurbish and update it.

We had a good time over all, and this time we had a nice room. I like the Yarrow building and the…read moreroom we had was so convenient because it was out the door straight to elevator, and out to pool/ hot tub. We got the food out couch King room in anticipation of grandkids coming, but they changed their mind, so for us plenty of space! The only complaint about the room was it took maybe two minutes for shower water to get hot. Also, they still don't have room service from what i can tell/ a way to call in food / drinks to be delivered to room or pool area. They really need that; they said they're thinking about it. It was during blues and tattoos fest which we didn't attend and have Virgin skin, but we Loved all the eye Candy! The room came with two nice bathrobes for use while you are there, too, plus abundant nice smelling bathroom products for use. A beautiful features at the hotel is the will allow you to come enjoy amenities before your room is ready, and they allow you to stay all day after you've checked out to continue enjoying amenities! And even though there are still a few jets in hot tub not working, it worked better than last time we were here. And the pool itself is nice and warm, with plenty clean towels to use all around! We were celebrating my hubbies bday and my daughter brought us a fully cooked salmon dinner and salad and Prosecco that 8 of us were able to enjoy in the Yarrow building lobby area with a round table and comfy chairs and couches surrounding it. A perfect private party location, at no additional charge, where we didn't have to mess up our bedroom with food stuff and kept restaurant happy we were not bringing outside food in, AND you could not match that dinner deal! The only overall complaint is that the outdoor pool restrooms toilets (both!) became completely clogged and unusable on the day we were leaving, a Sunday which was not good because the lobby restrooms require you to be clothed up a bit to go into them or you get lots of stares. I would have given 5 stars this time if it weren't for those outdoor pool bathrooms!

What a great way to kick off 2026! Had the pleasure of staying here for the MLK long weekend. We've…read morehad a tradition of holding an annual family reunion in Wine Country. We historically have stayed in the Healdsburg area. This year we decided to mix it up a bit and stay in Santa Rosa. With its proximity to Santa Rosa downtown as well as multiple other wine country towns and attractions, we picked Art House to stay at. For our very large group of 20+ people, everything went super smoothly from start to finish. Booking our multiple rooms all on the same floor of the hotel was so easy and ideal. We booked everything from the Classic King Rooms to the Urban King Apartment Suite all the way up to the Cityscape Corner Apartment Suite. All the rooms were extremely reasonably priced and worked out great! I personally stayed in the Corner Apartment Suite and it was just such a great space. With a huge living/dining room, full kitchen and separate bedroom with a king bed and bathroom, it was so comfy. The floor to ceiling windows let in so much natural light with sweeping views of the Santa Rosa skyline. It frequently served as homebase most of our stay for everyone to just gather and hang out together in. It was just a fantastic room. Another huge plus was the complimentary Continental Breakfast. Stocked with bagels, English muffins, muffins, cereal, granola, yogurt, juice, milk, Nespresso coffee and various teas, this was simply fantastic to start the day with. For our huge group with multiple kids, it also saved us so much hassle and extra money vs. going out to an off-site restaurant for breakfast. What also made our stay EXTRA AMAZING was all of the staff. From the front desk team to housekeeping, every single staff member was absolutely wonderful. I will especially like to point out Marilyn, Ruth and Bernadette. This trio of women really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. I really hope the hotel management recognizes this remarkable team. To be a good, complete reviewer, I will point out the few minor quibbles that others in our group did mention. The $21/night parking in the extremely tight enclosed garage was a bit pricey. Paid street parking is plentiful and cheaper, but if you have a nicer car then the choice is yours. The local Santa Rosa tap water flowing from all the room faucets could use a filter to help improve the taste a bit. And finally the shower pressure could use a lesser flow restrictor. Overall, Art House is just a fantastic choice if you are looking to stay in the Santa Rosa area. Our huge group unanimously agreed that we will definitely be back for a future repeat reunion here!

We loved the extra large space, the balcony and the cool miniature pink fridgeadare, very retro. The bathroom was well stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. A well stocked nespresso machine with choices of flavors. Although the advertisement states breakfast, please note, this is a continental breakfast with yogurt, muffins, packaged bagels, juice and coffee. Enough to get you started. Parking is available in their garage for a fee $$. Otherwise there is metered parking that charges from 9 am to 6 pm. A great way to ensure the hotel guests leave early .
