The place is still the same old-school, no-frills spot upstairs with the AC blasting, tables squeezed together, and that familiar hum of families chatting over bowls. The fact that Seasons is inside the Manila Pavilion does it no favors, as the former Hilton/Holiday Inn has long been out of the general conversation, so to speak. It's a damned shame as both the hotel and the restaurant has slowly but sure been working hard to become relevant to the increasingly competitive hospitality scene. Let's talk about what I liked about Seasons. First, the food. Seasons had an amazing appetizer spread, filled with food you don't normally see on a buffet. I also enjoyed the fresh pasta station and the soup station. The main entrees were also unique and appetizing. As with any buffet, there were hits and there were misses, but overall, I think they hit it out the ballpark. I also appreciated the little things Seasons did to improve your experience, such as serving food in small batches to ensure freshness. Seasons definitely won't overwhelm you with tons of food greeting you. Instead, you get a non-threatening spread that you'd come back to again and again. And at P1,200++ for this buffet? A goddamn steal.

One thing I love is how encompassing the menu is. I've been a frequent visitor of this restaurant for the past 5 years, and every time I come back I still have a hard time ordering. My favourites, though, have to be the laksa, salt & pepper spareribs, crispy seafood noodles and cha hie mie. I've tried the dishes when in Singapore and Malaysia and I can really say it holds up to its origins. I suggest pairing your meal with a refreshing and light glass of lemon barley, or since it's summer, have iced kopi tarik at the end of your meal.

For the diet-watchers out there, this might not be the place for you as you're guaranteed to order rice here. There's only one way to enjoy Recipes' delicious offerings, and that is, with the good old Filipino staple food. A meal here can cost you only Php 200, or maybe even less. Servings are good for two, so best to tag along a companion. Order at least two different viands to share so you can sample more of Recipes' familiar fare.

If you are not a hotel guest, then the breakfast is 399 PHP, no extra charges above that. That's of as of this date; and also, as of this date and the current exchange rates for USD/PHP, that means the price of the buffet breakfast is under $8 USD. Eggs are cooked to order, but not consistently correctly, but, you know, this happens in the Philippines. Coffee is good - not always a given here, as what you get in many places is basically just a cup of hot brown water when you order coffee. Lot of great Filipino favorites in the buffet, like tocino, garlic rice, hot dogs (yes, for breakfast, big favorite in the Philippines), many different kinds of fruit, vegetables, etc. No cereal offered. The aforementioned coffee, and tea, and fresh-squeezed pineapple juice and orange juice are proffered as drinks. The fresh-squeezed pineapple juice is heavenly and will make you feel better about life in general. My voracity was of huge proportions as I had just come off a 23-hour flight from the States, and man, did I go after it hard here - three eggs, tocino, watermelon, cantaloupe, garlic rice, pineapple juice, several cups of coffee, and a cinnamon pastry. Service is very attentive without being overbearing, and quite prompt. Very nice dining room with views out onto the street, and, somewhat astoundingly, considering what year it is and the location, a steady stream of Miles Davis in my ears offered a great aural background to my leisurely sojourn there. I left feeling fat and happy, with a new attitude, and plenty of fuel for the fire within that day.
