The Argo has a lounge problem. My friend and I decided to check them out for a happy hour outing on a Thursday, drawn in by the live music and burger "specials" they advertised. We grabbed a booth seat, after the hostess offered us a dining area table or other seats where we could see the musicians better. We wanted to talk so we didn't care to be next to the band. The joke was on us, because when the music started it was clear they have an acoustics issue - it was overwhelmingly loud for dining, even with a two-piece acoustic group. The server came over and took our order. It's possible they never worked at a bar before, because when I ordered a rum and diet with lime, they asked if I wanted a shot of rum and diet Coke. Since a Cuba Libre is among the most basic of bar orders, I can't begin to process what was going on there. First day? On Earth? Pretty weird. The burger special was not special at all. I don't know what that was about. We decided to try the mushrooms and chips and dip. I have to say I have big expectations of Food by Chef Dan Jacobs, having watched him take on Top Chef. I was excited about the mushrooms, but they were not great. The green goddess sauce tasted extremely "green" and fresh, but while it appeared to be a dippable portion, in reality it was a shallow film across the bottom of the small ramekin, where you could drag your mushroom and get a hint of it. The mushrooms, while very crispy, were lukewarm and many of them were extremely salty. They made me sad and mushrooms are among my favorite foods on the planet. The chips that came with the dips were plentiful and crispy. The spinach dip was pretty hard and solid when my friend first tried it. It was better after the stirred it up and loosened it, but it seemed to be just barely thawed out. I thought the onion dip was okay, but she felt it had a weird taste. Not hitting it out of the park. After we paid our bill and gathered our things to leave, someone else came over and said if we wanted to check out the ticketed show upstairs, they had opened it up to non-ticket holders. We were curious to see the space so we went up. It's a nice space, but it was a sad scene. This was a nationally recognized country band and there were perhaps a dozen people in the room. To make the band feel better, I suspect, they let us up, but I'm sure the paying ticket holders didn't appreciate it. I'm glad The Argo is there. I want them to succeed and I'm a chef Dan fan, but this is not a winning proposition at the moment. And for a man who prided himself on his innovative vegetarian dishes in competition, where's our sandwich? What if I don't want a bowl? Or chips? I'm sorry, but the Argo still needs some work. Staff training, acoustic refinement, food improvements. I swear we'll come if you do.

My friend and I dropped by Two recently for a birthday drink. This place has a great classic…read morecocktail list and fun ice cream drinks. Since we'd just had a disappointing dinner, we opted for ice cream drinks as a treat. They were both very good and picture perfect. The bartender was polite and service was good. We were in early and the place was quite empty, but it filled as the night went on. Two is not big, but it's cute as hell with retro decor and intimate booths, perfect for a a date night. Mid-century mod and kitty cat decor for the win. I may well make this a regular haunt.

Hubsy gushed about this bar enough that I resisted until Saturday night when I felt restless. Inside, Two is a low-lit neighborhood bar. There's a fair number of large tables for groups and the booths noted by other reviewers behind bead curtains. Two glows like the inside of a supernatural heart. Warm, red, and playing some solid music -- some I recognized (Death Cab for Cutie) and others I didn't (the bluesy tune). There's a jukebox. The location: Located next to its flashier cousin, Art Bar, it's easy to miss Two. About 3-4 blocks west of Humboldt on Burleigh, use Art Bar as your landmark. There's plenty of unmetered street parking on Burleigh or the residential streets. The service: When we walked in, we were greeted immediately by the bartender. She also asked if we had ever been there before. Based on the people who came in after us, my guess is that she knows the regulars. Very cool. The drinks: My first sip of Dark and Stormy was all rum. I didn't mind, so when I stirred, it was perfectly balanced. Good ginger beer, good rum. The Moscow Mule Hubsy got was sweeter than my drink which was surprising but delightful. Each of our drinks were $8.50. I didn't pay attention to the beer specials, but maybe next time. Next time: I'll probably stay longer to do some people-watching and writing. Maybe I'll check out the beer.

The $25 half chicken was overcooked and dry, and since last year the $30 pork wasn't so good we didn't even try it. However, the entertainment was nice and overall very enjoyable.

Parking was a wild time, as they were directing people to an entirely different lot down the way, so it was a bit of hike to get to the entrance. Once we parked, we waited in like for 10 minutes or to get through the gates. I was tipped off the downland the Bavarian's app ahead of time, which got me $5 off my entry (and it was free from my little kiddo in tow). If you're looking for all the great German beer, German music, and German cuisine, this is your place! It's so fun to see how many attendees dress to theme in their lederhosens, dirndls, and hats. Some of the staff dress up as well, and of course those preforming on stage! We came to find out this isn't the greatest fest to take young kids, as the crowds are big, the lines are long, and the music (be it so fun and festive), is really loud. I'm sure we would have stayed longer if it was an adult-only trip. In any case, the food and drink are fare price. I'm now regretting not ordering the traditional pretzel and sausage options, but splitting a tasty platter of tenders and fries with my son hit the spot. Being pregnant, I'm not drinking, but friends we were with has nothing but great things to say about their German pints. The beer steins are of course an option which is a fun touch. Hot tip: if you can book a table reservation ahead of time, do so! That's what we did and it was a good call since this place is poppin. Happy official Fall! Enjoy!
