I can see where parking instantly becomes an issue, but we were given clear directions on where to park in designated areas. Class will begin tonight! There are private study rooms on the 5th floor big enough for a small group. There is a secret private room at the end of the hall on the left on 7 if i remember correctly. If there is a catering event, talk to the catering staff and be there when its over. They throw all the food away, so grab a plate and get some late night dinner. There is s decent lounge on the 2nd floor with nice chairs to really lounge in. All the TVs in each lounge have basic cable. The third floor has a few chairs that when pulled together make for a pretty good napping spot. You can use your uncc login to turn on the auditorium computers to watch dvds in style. *the one on the right is best bc it has no windows but don't watch a three hour movie, the chairs are not butt friendly in either one. The scanner in the library can be used by anyone even though it says otherwise. There are locker rooms with showers in the basement. There is free parking on the street a block away, just make sure there isn't anything going on that night at the arena. 7th street station has the best lunch. Jimmie Johns is wicked fast! There is a microwave in the lounge on 6 I think. If not there, its in one of the lounges. Theres a fridge and 2 microwaves in the staff lounge and the door is unlocked all day until six or so. Then it locks. Its up to you if you have the brass to go in there. I never cared. Thats about it. Im sure theres more, but for now thats all I can think of.

The security guard had me wait in the lobby while he went in to the gallery to turn the lights on. I got the impression that there wasn't a whole lot going on here. It's a good thing that it's free, because 30 minutes of looking at pictures wouldn't have been worth much. And even at 30 minutes, I was still moving pretty slow. When I visited, the exhibit was "Streetwise", a collection of pictures of America's troubled 60's. Capturing images of not just our troubled times, including Boston's "Combat Zone" and close-ups of the Black Panthers, there were also shots of just regular people and places. All in black and white, which gave it a feel of being very like a documentary. Pictures of the pictures are not permitted, but I took that as meaning not taking a picture of the individual pictures. Instead, my wide shot of the gallery doesn't give away the detail but helps you see what you're going to see there. I might come back for the next exhibit, but I think this is a "See it once" kind of thing.

I've worked on and around PLCs for many years and have troubleshooted and repaired them but never had any programming instruction (I have managed to decipher some code while attending to the broken bits of hardware) and I figured there's gotta be something important that I'm missing. took the intro course and in just a few short weeks my understanding-to-confusion ratio had reversed and then doubled. yep, just a couple pearls of wisdom and life is significantly less worse! also doing classes further south with similar results but in a different field of endeavor. getting enrolled and registered took about two in person visits, two phone calls, and a half dozen emails (mostly about class selection...) welcome to adulting, please be an adult when attempting it. really, the hardest part of taking classes here was the governor of northern carolina announcing that in-person instruction at all colleges was suspended at the start of the pandemonium. turns out to have been as reliable as the rest of the plague-level advice: never happened! school continued uninterrupted without me and I am delayed a year. sad face :-( my biggest complaint here is having to wait half an hour before the doors open because I'm here way before class starts... and the mask mandates... and the training software crashes too frequently for my liking... did I mention the masks??? and no hot coffee... but we're all wearing masks anyway... but parking is abundant and access is easy enough so there's that... :-p

The admissions team welcomed us in and offered drinks followed by a shirt presentation of the history of the university and courses available. Next, we were taken on a tour of the university, led by an actual student. We were able to see lecture halls and classrooms. We even got to sample food from one of the kitchens. Our last stop was the dorms, which were surprisingly roomy. They have 4 people to a suite and two bedrooms with two beds each, plus a desk, dresser, and mini fridge. The suites also have a bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink in them. This is a great university option and the tour really gives you a real-life view of the day-to-day experience.
